The crowd noise rule had to have been one of the dumbest rules in the history of the NCAA! Right up there with the running clock rule from 2 or 3 years ago.

Wish it weren't so, but unfortunately many of the few who can actually afford tickets to this game just don't yell like this.

Seriously, how can they charge us a timeout for our crowd being so pumped? Penalizing for getting excited for the game is bullish*t. I mean this isn't high school. If you don't want home field advantage to be a factor then why play in front of a crowd?

Anyway this video is awesome. Man though, I really wish I experienced those late 80's teams.

I was there for that game. I was a freshman at ND, and that game was the beginning of a great four years.

Have that game on DVD. Always makes me shake my head when I watch it. That's a home field right there

That video always raises the hairs on the back of my neck. However, it also saddens me because that crowd of 60,000 is so much louder than our current crowds will ever be.

Every time i've been Pitt, W. Michigan in 2010, and AF 2011 the crowd was perfect.. Double waves for like 2 minutes, crowd push ups cheering, also a guy dressed up as Jesus.

I love the fact ND really is untouchable in history and pure great football.. Sure we have had some bad yrs, but trust me we are on the rise so close to being what we all want again.. Then wait and see how loud that stadium gets..

Well, I can afford it and I'll tell you this: Notre Dame football in 1987 was surging towards greatness, which emerged in 1988. The fanbase knew this, as the football program wasn't that far removed from Ara and Devine, and Holtz immediately made the football team better than it was under Faust. When you watch Ricky Watter's elite athleticism on his punt return, or Rocket running by Michigan's corrnerback and being open by 5 yards on the bomb Rice threw to him, or Zorich and the entire defense's unyielding determination, you're watching the kind of Notre Dame team that made Notre Dame the New York Yankees of college football.

Unfortunately, nothing in Notre Dame football's performance in 2011-or nearly every season since 1993- has given the fanbase any reason to believe we are on the verge of greatness. And there have been far too many truly pitiful seasons and games along the way. The loudest moment since 1993 was during the 2005 ND-USC game, when there was a sense that we may be the Notre Dame we once were. Sadly, it was a mirage.

I cannot believe this even used to be a rule. That's just so counter-intuitive that to think it even passed any committee barriers to be passed as a rule is mind boggling. Wow.

Hope we can get back to that!

I hope I make it into the Michigan game this year.

If I do, I will be loud. And there will be blood.
