#4 class on 247 now.

Arkansas just lost their top recruit which moved us up to #3. Villanova is listed as #2 showing three commitments, the only problem is, that 2 of the 3 are the same kid. Brandon Slater is listed twice for some reason.

I guess that means that we are really #2 on 247

Ever since Brey offered, CBs for Notre Dame have been rolling in for 6'10" Nate Laszewski. His composition is a 91 rating, #143 overall, and he's very close to being a 4:s:. 247 has him as a 4:s:, 93 rating, and a top 100 player.

He has a 4:s: offer list: Notre Dame, Villanova, Miami, Wake Forest, Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M, USC, and Vandy.

Brey watched him at one of those showcases this month and offered after that. Add him and Bey and that will easily make the 2018 class the best brey has ever put together.

Nate Laszewski, Northfield Mount Hermon, Small Forward

Didn't realize that Hauser committed to Marquette. Brey immediately offered Laszewski the day after Hauser committed.

How about that defense love they gave them? You'd think BVG was running the basketball teams defense lol

Brey's style will always trade-off with defensive production. And I'll never deny that weakness. Could be mitigated with the better talent coming in, but still a trade-off with the O style.

Only difference compared to the football defense is, Brey's offense is a tad better than Kelly's.

Laszewski's recruiting is starting to heat up as he impresses on the summer circuit. Wisconsin and Indiana recently offered. Dad played for UW and his sister is currently on UW's women's team.

Laszewski played really well at the Adidas Summer Championship in Vegas with his team making it to the championship game. New offers from Arizona, Virginia and North Carolina. North Carolina has a connection in that high school teammate Andrew Platek is headed to N. Carolina this year.

Notre Dame showed him some love.

If only, if only.

I don't know how he feels about playing the 5, though. It may not matter but he seems more like a shooter than a post-it-up down low guy. I know that's not how ND plays but the big guys are always called upon to do a little grounding and pounding down low. We shall see!

2019 target Isaiah Stewart will certainly be close by as he is transferring to La Lumiere.

Didn't realize that the new La Lumiere coach is Pat Holmes who is a 2012 graduate of ND. Don't know if it will have any effect on recruiting, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

I love the fact that Carmody, Goodwin, & Hubb will be on campus for Laszewski's official visit.

Not sure what to make of the fact that he hasn't scheduled an official visit for Wisconsin yet.

Would be a perfect fit at ND.

Maybe Hauser took his spot?

Laszewski might have had the best summer out of everyone in terms of gaining interests and offers from other major programs. We'll see where this goes and how his visit goes, but Brey has a battle on his hands now.

Hauser committed to Marquette not Wisconsin.

I think we get Laszewski

A bit ignorant to B BALL recruiting, but obv have noticed that we have had a GREAT off season so far. How good is Laszewski??

Was a borderline top 100 prospect before the summer circuit started. Was very impressive this summer resulting in offers from ND, Arizona, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Indiana etc. Hauser and Laszewski would probably be considered the top "Stretch 4" prospects in this class. Laszewski can shoot the lights out of the basket. Seen some reports that he is now up to 6' 10". Very academic minded. Has taken unofficial visits to ND in August 2015 and November 2016.

Rivals updated their rankings today and he jumped up to #69 from #97. ESPN moved him up to #51. 247 has him at #96 but I'm not sure when the last time they updated their rankings.

If we get Laszewski, he would be our top rated recruit in this class.

New Rivals Rankings for Current Commits:

Hubb - #83 down from #61
Carmody - #86 up from #88
Goodwin - Stayed at #105

We were the presumed leader for Saddiq Bey who earlier in the summer had only one official visit planned, and that was to ND. A couple of weeks ago Bey announced a top 6 that didn't include ND. The conspiracy theorist in me is connecting the dots. I think there is a decent chance that Brey has pushed all of his poker chips to the center of the table and told Laszewski that he is "all in" in an effort to show how bad he wants him and to seal the deal.

In my ignorance I was hoping they would move on from Brey and almost immediately they came into this run of success.

You weren't alone. A little over 2 years ago, it seemed like it was a 50/50 split between those that wanted ND to find a new BB coach and those who wanted him to stay. Even in the 50% of people who wanted ND to keep Brey, there were many who confessed that they were almost hoping that Brey would take the rumored Cal coaching job.

I have also come full circle on Brey. Rather than be forever grateful for the ACC championship I got to witness in person - I am getting greedy and looking forward to a Final Four run at some point in the near future. ACC needs to bring that tourney back to Greensboro.

Maryland was much more of a player for him. Especially with his geological breakdown. Also, for those who were questioning Brey, those years were more like 5+ years ago, not around 2.

I will take your word for it regarding the Maryland thing, but it looks like the same discussions were being had about people wanting to get rid of Brey even as close as three years ( I said 2, I was wrong) ago when the Cal job was open.

The point is, that it wasn't that long ago that many ND fans wanted Brey to leave.

I think the tipping point was year one in the ACC IIRC. That was a cluster of a season and, when coupled with lack of NCAA Tourney success up until that point, made people turn sour.

2 years ago we were facing Kentucky (and nearly beating them) in the elite 8... I'm not denying there were people against Brey, I just don't know who they were...

Really since the Harangody Era, he's been performing well. And better each season. I won't deny 5+ years ago people thought "maybe, we should let him take the new job"

Thankfully Swarbrick, is smarter than the average fan.

I remember someone on this board stating a few years ago that not only was Brey a below average coach, but a really bad guy as well. If memory serves, something to do with his friend who met him or knew him or something.

I'll try to find the thread, but even this board (again, if memory serves) had quite a few Brey haters.

I think it was because Brey (supposedly) had an extramarital affair.

The Brey firings calls were all pre-Elite 8. At that point Brey hadn't had success in March for over a decade, the criticisms were legitimate.

March success and recruiting have since skyrocketed. I still want them to get national with their scheduling like the football team (USC annually, etc) and put their foot in the gas to become a national program.
