I love that this is just thrown in at the end as though Henry being run over and over into a loaded front isn’t kind of the whole point of his obvious dominance.

How about 2000 yard seasons? How about Offensive League MVPs? How about playoff yards?

JTT is a great back, but Colts fans gotta Colts fan.
And Taylor wasn't running into a loaded front? Teams were daring the Colts to beat them with the woeful Wentz.

DH is a great back, but Titan fans gotta Titans fan.

There's really no argument against either. DH has been the best the last 3-4 years. Taylor was better this year. So are we talking about this year or combined years?

Now back to the coaches.

Yep. I don't see how this wouldn't be a home run hire.

Is Fickell really playing the long game with Cincinnati and going to turn them into a perennial threat? Lol.

Coaching years are long and draining. He really is bought into Cinci. Plenty of good jobs have come open.

Will admit I'm surprised he's still there, given the jobs that opened up this cycle. Though I wonder if it would've been different had Cincy finished 5th instead of 4th.

On the year that Nuke was attempting to compare, he had roughly 200 less yards on 40 less carries with one more game than Henry had. Look at the tweet I quoted one more time. Look at the names he's above. Henry literally had the best 40 game rushing stretch in NFL history just before his injury. JT had one great (not historic) season where he didn't crack 2000 with an extra game to play. There aren't good arguments either way. There's reality, and then there's Indianapolis delusion.

Until the OSU job comes open? I can see that. Cincinnati's move to the Big 12 has to help.

Should be interesting to see how Cinci handles the move. Big 12 loses a lot of their strength, but I still don't see the Natti going better than 10-2 most regular seasons with maybe the occasional exception.

Golden is the only Freeman decision so far that I'm nervous about. He's been a DC once in his career and it was in 2005. I hope the scheme will be given to him by Freeman and he's here to recruit.

“Freeman wanted experience in the role, something that was noticeably absent in Notre Dame’s Fiesta Bowl collapse against Oklahoma State. But a willingness to run the head coach’s scheme was non-negotiable.”

Per Sampson.

Not exactly what Freeman said the other day in his press conference, was it?

I enjoyed this process, and I know I'm one of the few, but in looking at what the staff looks like on paper and the early work they're doing I think we're going to see some dividends on and off the field soon enough. It won't be perfect, and the first loss is going to open up the first seal of the apocalypse no doubt, but for as solid as the program had been I felt like things had been a bit stale for a while. It feels like Freeman gets it and wants to be at Notre Dame, but he's going to step things up and not use excuses. That's all I really care about as a fan.

Doesn't matter. all of the rumors and speculation were beyond exhausting, as was all the whining about staff turnover. In the end, I'm glad that Kelly left on his own devices and wasn't fired, because the head coach getting fired is just a shitty situation. It was a whirlwind couple of months but everyone is still here and life is going to go on. Think Spring.

Sure not exactly but both Golden and Freeman basically said if it ain’t broke don’t fix it in so many words and any tweaks would be collaborative.

Cam Hart said something similar on the podcast. More expanding on or fine tuning what the players already know.

Freeman made it pretty clear Golden has control over the scheme. He's just asking Golden look at what's there first. If 40%, 60%, 80%, etc is in line with what Golden wants, then use that as a starting point and build the rest off of that. It's sounds like Freeman and Golden have been talking for a while now. It sounds like they have some commonality. I'm not sure but I bet Golden keeps 75% of what's in place but does make a few changes.

He's also asking Golden keep terminology the same. Football teams have different names for the same stuff. Rather than 40 some odd guys learning new names, 1 coach can just learn new names. Even Freeman kept a lot of Clark Lea's terminology and applied it to his defense.

As I just said earlier, I was only relaying what was reported before the PC but thanks.

“The more we met, the more we talked, I learned right away this person understands football, he understands scheme,” Freeman said. “I was also looking for a person that didn’t want to come in here and just drop this playbook, and say, ‘Hey, this is what we’re doing.’ No. Al Golden was a guy who said, ‘Let me evaluate what you all are doing, let me evaluate your players and let’s put together the best scheme.’”

“I’m not hiring him to run my system,” Freeman said. “I want him to evaluate what we’ve done and find out how can we enhance from this as a beginning point.

This is really what stuck out to me. Whatever was said behind the scenes during the process, I doubt anyone knows for sure unless they were in the room where it happened, but in hearing these quotes it sure makes for nice sounding PR.

Once they start working together and the players start swapping helmet paint, it's a whole new ballgame. I think it'll be fine. Good people and good communicators are in the room as best we can tell.
