ND Acceptance Letters

Once again thanks for all the congrats. Also, to correct something Whiskeyjack said earlier, having a grandparent graduate from ND does not make you a legacy. Only having a parent that graduated from ND is considered a legacy. I had neither a parent nor a grandparent that graduated from ND, but I did have a sister that graduated from there. I know many other prospective students asked about this and it is solely a parent that can make you a legacy

I got denied again. Pretty disillusioned with the whole process considering I had above the average GPA for transfers, 2 alumni, and loads of extracurriculars. Oh well. And it wasn't as if I was taking a joke schedule. This past semester I took biology, calculus, and physics. Talk about murder for someone not majoring in anything even close to related to that.

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure you know how selective the process is and that no matter how hard you try sometimes things don't work out the way you want. Everything happens for a reason bud.

Is that recent change? My application definitely asked for the names and graduation years of any related alumni.

Thanks for the post WhiskeyJack, my school just got out for summer and I plan on maximizing my time off by emailing the NJ admissions counselor, doing community service and maybe take a few AP classes over the summer. Hopefully I can add my own letter to this thread next year!

Had my son applied to ND I think that listing me as a dad-grad would have worked against rather than for him.

I had an uncle who spent some time at ND taking engineering classes when the Department of the Navy saved ND's bacon. I didn't know about it until my sophomore year when I went to spend Thanksgiving with family still in NY. I have no idea if it would have made a difference.

I'm sorry to hear that. It sucks now, but keep your head up.

You put in the time, effort, and energy into making a dream come true. It didn't happen, but you have every reason to be proud of chasing something you want.The easy route would have been to give up. You didn't. Most students would have folded half way through the process. You didn't. And that, my friend, will serve you well in life. You have character that society lacks.

You took the road less traveled. Someday down the road you'll appreciate the experience and you'll be a better man for it.

Not sure. I was asked when I applied as a first-year student and as a transfer if I had any siblings or parents that graduated from ND. I said my sister graduated; however, it was meaningless since an admissions counselor previously had said that its only parents that count towards a legacy. Although I am sure having a grandparent donate a million dollars every year can't hurt haha.

Well ... I did let something about "Ted the Head" slip in my essay. I may have intimated that he was an uncle or some such thing.

So sorry to hear that, Dan. I have had that conversation with my son who's never known a "B" on his report card that grades are the most important, but they look at stuff beyond grades. Notre Dame is different. You need to be involved in community projects, or you'd better be 6'4" and run a 4.2, 40....... He's ok though.... He's a tremendous athlete, hitting .640 in travel league ball.

I'll take all A's and hitting .640 all day long.....as should you, Dan. There's more to life than the University of Notre Dame, believe it or not. God Bless, kid.

Don't sweat it man. Just kick some butt sophomore year and make it impossible for them to deny you. Your at the best place possible to transfer. Two years there is brutal trust me I know but it will all be worth it.

I think I'm going to use this Common App question for my Essay:

"Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family."

I plan on writing something about our school service trip this year and how it changed me blah blah, stuff like that.




I feel though I could write the best essay for this one:

"Describe a place or environment where you are perfectly content. What do you do or experience there, and why is it meaningful to you?"

I could write so much stuff about how or why I love ND, from the people, the campus, and the religious life, but sadly this has to go to other colleges to. Oh well.

But seriously. Write a different essay for ND. They'll see through it if it's a generic one. Notre Dame is a special place and it deserves a special essay.

Just my opinion, but I think it'll pay off in the long run.
