Achonwa took over sole possession of fifth place on ND's career rebounding chart with 948 caroms, passing Devereaux Peters (937 from 2007-12) and moved into sixth place on the school's career double-doubles list with 27 (and team-high seventh this year).

Achonwa (who finished one point shy of her career set on Jan. 12 at Virginia) also rose to 12th place on the ND career scoring list with 1,504 points, passing Ashley Barlow (1,492 from 2006-10)

McBride collected her team-high 12th 20-point game of the season

McBride dished out a career-high 9 assists, the most by a ND Dame player this year and fifth-most by a Fighting Irish player in the NCAA tournament (most since April 2, 2013, when Skylar Diggins also had 9 assists against Duke.

McBride had her team-high 10th "5-5-5" game this season (at least "5" in three of the five major statistical categories -- points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals)

Loyd extended her streak of double-figure scoring games to 39 in a row (second-longest in school history)

McBride, Loyd Earn USBWA All-America Honors - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

For the first time in school history, two Notre Dame women's basketball players have been named to the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-America Team, as senior guard/tri-captain Kayla McBride (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and sophomore guard Jewell Loyd (Lincolnwood, Ill./Niles West) were voted to the 10-player squad, it was announced Monday by the USBWA.

...

Loyd is one of two underclassmen on this year's USBWA All-America Team (along with Connecticut sophomore Breanna Stewart), with the other eight players on the squad (including McBride) all being seniors: Stefanie Dolson (Connecticut), Bria Hartley (Connecticut), Maggie Lucas (Penn State), Chiney Ogwumike (Stanford), Shoni Schimmel (Louisville), Odyssey Sims (Baylor) and Alyssa Thomas (Maryland).

...

The Best vs The Best
After defeating Sims of BU tonight, ND will face either Schimmel of Louisville or Thomas of Maryland in next weekend's Final Four game. Then they face either Ogwumike of Stanford or Dolson, Hartley, and Stewart of Connecticut in the Final. ND defeated Lucas of Penn St during the regular season (as they did with Thomas and Maryland).

Achonwa's 15 rebounds are second-most by a ND player in an NCAA Championship outing and most since Gaither's 16 boards against George Washington in the 1997 East Regional final

Achonwa collected her team-high eighth double-double of the season (second in this year's NCAA Championship), including her fifth in her last eight NCAA tournament games

Achonwa now has 28 career double-doubles, tying Letitia Bowen (1991-95) for fifth in program history

Achonwa moved into 4th place on ND's career rebounding list with 970 boards, passing Jacqueline Batteast (965 from 2001-05)

Loyd tied a school record with her third 30-point game of the season (previously done by Beth Morgan in 1995-96, Katryna Gaither in 1994-95 and Shari Matvey in 1979-80), while posting the most points by a ND player in an NCAA Championship contest since March 23, 2010, when Skylar Diggins scored 31 points in a second-round win over Vermont

Loyd moved into 28th place on ND's all-time scoring list with 1,108 points, passing Danielle Green ( 1,106 from 1995-2000)

Loyd also scored in double figures for the 41st consecutive game (second-longest streak in school history) and logged her team-leading 13th 20-point game of the season

Braker posted her third double-figure scoring game of the year and tied her season high with four steals

ND had 4 double-digit scorers for the 24th time this season and since 2009-10, the Fighting Irish are 99-5 (.952) in such contests, including wins in 69 of their last 70 outings.

Looks like UCONN could get off the hook two years in a row.

I sure hope Reimer and Wright can hold their own down low

O Captain! My Captain!

O Captain! My Captain!

The journey isn't done. The Captain isn't on the deck, cold and dead.

Her heart will be on the bench but her soul will be on the floor.

Hell of a year. Missed the first three games rehabbing the right knee and will miss the last two cause of the left one. In between were 34 intense games played in the paint against tough competition.

GO IRISH!

Natalie Achonwa Sidelined With Knee Injury - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

ND senior forward/tri-captain Natalie Achonwa (Guelph, Ontario/St. Mary's Catholic) will miss the remainder of the 2013-14 women's basketball season after injuring her left knee Monday night in the second half of Notre Dame's 88-69 win over No. 5/6 Baylor in the NCAA Notre Dame Regional final (Elite Eight) at Purcell Pavilion.

Achonwa suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee, with that diagnosis confirmed by team orthopedist Dr. Michael Yergler after Achonwa underwent a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) exam on Tuesday morning. She will undergo surgery to repair the injury at a later date, and her rehabilitation timetable has not yet been established.

"Natalie has been an extremely valuable contributor to our success, not only this season but throughout her career, and that won't change," Notre Dame head coach Muffet McGraw said. "While she may not be in uniform, her voice will be heard loud and clear in the locker room, on the bench and in the huddle. I know that our team is going to continue to feed off her energy, passion and leadership as we head into the Final Four."

Achonwa started 33 games for the Fighting Irish this season, posting career-high averages in scoring (14.9 ppg.), field goal percentage (.611), assists (2.8 apg.) and blocked shots (1.2 bpg.), along with a team-high 7.7 rebounds per game and eight double-doubles. She also ranked among the top 15 in the ACC in scoring (15th), field goal percentage (2nd; also third in the nation and seventh on the Notre Dame single-season charts), rebounding (11th) and blocked shots (10th).

Earlier on Tuesday, Achonwa was named a third-team All-America selection by the Associated Press, adding to her earlier honors as a second-team All-ACC and second-team All-ACC Tournament choice, not to mention earning a spot on the NCAA Notre Dame Regional All-Tournament Team Monday night. In addition, she was a midseason candidate both for the Naismith Trophy and Wooden Award, as well as a member of the Wade Trophy preseason watch list (all three awards go to the national player of the year).

For her career, Achonwa ranks 12th in school history with 1,546 points, as well as top-10 rankings on the Fighting Irish all-time lists for rebounds (4th - 970), double-doubles (tied-5th - 28), field goal percentage (6th - .562) and games played (3rd - 145).
