This team is deep, extremely deep. Any of the starters could go off on any given night. Not one player is the "star" go to player. They all contribute

They do but if Achonwa gets into foul trouble early they're are vulnerable. When Reimers goes in for her, she also seems to acquire fouls quickly.

Look for UCON to go after Ace.

UCON is short bodies on their team. They'll have a height and weight advantage over ND but has to take them inside and draw the fouls like they did tonight. Get to the line early and often and prevent them from trading fouls late in the game. Loyd needs a quick start and any points from Allen with help. She is a selfless passer but when she scores, defense are helpless to cover everybody.

ND's passing early in the first half was poor, decision wise and execution wise. They threw balls into clogged lanes, overthrew the back door. They didn't pass with their normal crispness.

Then you had McBride and Allen going 0 fer. ND finished at 56% below 30% at one point in the first half. They didn't have a good game from the arc going 2-9.

The passing picked up as did McBride's shooting. Kayla wasn't the leading scorer but was a prime contributor with 12 pts, 7 rebs, and 6 assists. She lead the team is assists, was second in rebs, had 3 steals, and a block.

It's interesting that we see this as one of their poorer performances but they actually trounced the 13th ranked team.

I'd only be worried if they hadn't righted the ship in the second half.

WBB: Notre Dame, New Sheriff In Town - Backing The Pack

For ten plus years either Duke or UNC has dominated ACC women's basketball except for brief periods when Maryland rose up. Now there is a new sheriff in town, and it is Notre Dame. Since 2008, when I became able to attend a number of women's games in Reynolds, I have not seen a better team than I saw this afternoon when I watched Notre Dame. ND beat State 84-60. ND plays great defense and has an outstanding offense. Even their subs shoot well. ND shot 32 of 57 from the field and 18-19 from the free throw line missing only their last free throw shot. Jewel Loyd of ND shot 7-10 from the field and scored 18 points and Natalie Achonwa shot 8-9 from the field and scored 19 points. While ND shooters are deadly mid range shooters, ND back-doored State all game long. State has fallen behind other teams this year by 20 plus points, but always has been able to make the game fairly close by games end. However, no matter how often and easily State scored, ND always answered with a basket or foul shots.

Muffet McGraw Named ACC Coach Of The Year - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

A day after three of her players earned all-conference honors, Notre Dame head coach Muffet McGraw received her own award from the Atlantic Coast Conference when she was selected as the 2014 ACC Coach of the Year, the league office announced Wednesday.

This marks the second consecutive season, and the sixth time in McGraw's career that she has been named a conference coach of the year, covering five different leagues. She previously was honored in 1983 (East Coast Conference, while coaching at Lehigh University), as well as five times during her 27-year career at Notre Dame -- 1988 (North Star Conference), 1991 (Midwestern Collegiate Conference/Horizon League), 2001 and 2013 (BIG EAST), and 2014 (ACC).

McGraw becomes the second coach in program history to earn conference coach of the year honors in consecutive seasons. Mary DiStanislao pulled off that feat in 1985 and 1986 when the Fighting Irish were members of the North Star Conference.
