My only hot take is that it reminds me of the Purdue game from last year where Ash head his head up his ass -> Freeman was animated in the halftime interview with common sense stuff about how the defense was being called -> then stuff "magically" started getting better.

Freeman was in position group huddles from the very first drive and the three subsequent drives still happened. He also said in his presser earlier this week the same quote.

I believe the reason the O always feels "meh" despite consistently putting up points is that we are never doing creative shit where it feels like you out-chessed them. Like check this out from NW:

We aren't doing that. We aren't scheming up some trickeration or whatever. Instead, it's lots of vanilla stuff done efficiently and then usually we break one. It feels grab bag, and often there are lots of tight windows on the throws.

You don’t even need to be super formationally diverse or do crazy crap like that. Just run a few bunch formations and do different stuff out of it.

I never see us run something with the intent to set the defense up for something else.

Bettis curl and go TD? Gilbert RPO slant?

If anything Denbrock sets things up to a fault. Most schemed wide the hell open TDs are calling a one off that you think will break the other teams D. Denbrock’s entire style of play-calling is about setting up and diagnosing how the D reacts.

Besides the 3 play sequence of the 4th down stop I don’t think the defense played significantly better down to down in the 3Q. They a bit more awake but 1st drive gave up 17 yards out of a 1st and 20. Navy should have gone for it. Third drive QB fumbled it and they passed on 3rd and 7 because the game script warranted it. First half they just run for it again for sure. The 3 play sequence was good but Navy had some unforced errors and the offense took over the game script.

I have never had such little respect for a service academy than I do today.

Navy has always been chippy and engaged in extracurriculars. Today went WELL AND BEYOND that.

Frankly, if I were Marcus, I'd tell the players to shake hands and leave the field. Don't lock arms with them and sing the alma maters together.

As a service member myself, I felt immense shame and disappointment at the complete lack of class and integrity from those Midshipmen.

Future officers, what a fucking joke.

I honestly thought after last year's game, Navy's coaching staff and players had changed. Today was a disaster. Navy reverted back to playing their old chippy way. There were a few holding calls missed too... Pretty blatant ones.. I will say the Irish got away with a couple as well but not as obvious as Navy.

Well a lot of teams have been playing down to their competition and that’s what we did here for a half. In order to demolish Navy you need to force a few turnovers and we got zero.

Carr can not be a pass first QB. Made some good throws today but also missed a few easy ones. Our second possession he got greedy and tried to thread the needle instead of taking a wide open check down and set the tenor for that 3 and out. Was a horrible time to look like a backup. We are a run first team and should never give up on our run game.

Only a couple of teams look better than us right now. Georgia and Miami. Need to get as many players back for next week. Would take KVA over Bowen. Would take Tae over Brewu. Good to see that Bettis looks more polished than any of our starters and he and burress got nice separation.

Talich and Sneed played pretty good and since we had little passing against us Grey was ok as well. Defensive penetration was not impressive. James and Walton in and Williams bless his soul is out. Carr needs to show up and show out for once in a big game. Scouts should look at that. He needs to come back for another year.
