This is a damn good recruiting class. More importantly, I am very happy with our coaching staffs ability to get the most out of these kids. I’m saying it now, I get a great feeling from Lea. I think he just gets it, and has potential to be a great one. Great job closing. Go Irish!!!

This class is nuts...
QB- Home run
RB- Fine, getting 2 bodies was crucial for depth chart
WR- When Micah Jones is the fourth best guy coming in, it's a home run
TE- Could have passed on TE entirely, instead brought in 2 legit players. Home run
OL- Probably one of our worst OL classes in recent memory. Still, 90 percent of schools would kill for this OL class
DL- Solid, if not spectacular. If we can close on the '19 guys we're in great shape
LB- Fucking grand slam
DB- Home run

The weaknesses in this class are probably RB and OL, and we hardly embarrassed ourselves there. Yeah we don't have the star power coming in that some of the southern schools/OSU do, but this is about as good a class as ND could possibly hope to sign. The cupboard is full.

I agree that other than OL/RB this as good as a class that ND can get. Unfortunately that's just how it is. It should address major area and hope a few of these players turn into stars.

If we can sign classes like this year after year, we should be able to compete with everyone on our schedule. We should be poised to win every game on our schedule. An occasional 5 star every other year and classes that don't whiff on positions are crucial.

We rarely sign such a complete class but what really determine your ability to compete are the 2-3 year windows in recruiting. Areas where we were weaker in this class, need to be highlights in 19.

Something to consider about OL recruiting. Michigan wanted two of our OL commits. Jones and Patterson. And Patterson was a big miss for them, therefore win for us. And Dirksen would've been more highly recruited had he handled it differently. Even with his early commitment and very little contact with other staffs, MSU really wanted him prior to his ND commitment. So we landed a few guys that a couple of our rivals really wanted. I'd say that still falls under the category of good.

No kidding... also posted this in Patterson's thread, but check out this overreaction -- Patterson to ND | mgoblog

Top to bottom, best class (on paper) since 08?

2013 deserves a shout. Jaylon, Will, Big Mike were all elite, while still having some nice contributors like Corey, Torii, Rochelle, and Cole Luke. Bryant (RIP) and Max were disappointing, but still solid players.

The thing I like about this class is the huge potential upgrade in overall defensive talent. Our classes are usually rated high because of offensive talent. The staff did a great job this year in bringing in defensive playmakers.

Everything i have been reading is that if Harbaugh doesn't fix the Offense as a whole, specifically OL and QB this year, he is out or at least on the scolding hot seat. This helps!

The thing about hiring a Jim Harbaugh is that it's prohibitively expensive to fire him if things don't turn out well.

IMO, we brought in 5 top 100 defenders in Simon, Lamb, Jayson A., Griffith, and Allen. With some very intriguing athletes with a decent amount of upside in Bracy, Boykin, and Ovie.

Pretty crazy concentration of 5 stars this year at the top of the heap. Of the committed, all but 1 fall in the top 9 classes (the other at #14 LSU). UGA has 7, Clemson 5, USC 4.

WOW! NO ONE seemed to be supportive when he made his decision. Even the damn band didn't start playing behind him lol. His friend/relative, who was decked out in UT gear, at least showed some late support and started everyone clapping.

Maybe that's why he choose Florida - maybe to get away.

I'll be a bit more pessimistic and say RB was less than fine, but this sums up my feelings more or less. I'd feel a lot differently if Patterson hadn't come through.

I'll parrot what the II guys said a few days ago and say that it's not just that we picked up some great recruits, it's that we picked them up at positions of great need where historically we've whiffed.

Also, WHERE the recruits are coming from. Three recruits out of Georgia is great in a class where Georgia was a monster. We only had two Georgians on the roster last year... Tyler Newsome and Monty Van Gorder.

All in all, I'll say it was a solid 9/10.
