There’s more ND’s already involved with. I’ll list a few tonight.

I read this article. I think some of it speaks to the football talent in Chicago about as much as it speaks to what the coaches are and are not doing.

The anonymous coach with the grievance toward Illinois is undoubtedly a Chicago Catholic League coach. Zero question in my mind.

Certain schools should have coaches passing through Chicago area high schools every year. Notre Dame is not one of those. If you have a guy they want, Notre Dame will come see you. Apart from that, certain Big Ten schools and MAC schools should be hitting Chicago hard compared to everyone else. Illinois should be on it. Purdue, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, probably Michigan State.

It's 2024. Chicago area kids are not locks for Notre Dame and the area should not be a region of priority. The important people who matter have realized this and it isn't a thing. That's all I really care about.

Purdue should literally keep a coach or two in Chicago at all times. I have no clue why they don’t do better there. Between Kawaan Short from the 219 and Bruce Gaston a few years ago, they get a few Chicago kids every couple years, but their proximity should really help them. Heck, they’re closer to the south suburbs than U of I is.

This was my main takeaway

Any clue on which one?

Take your pick. Chicago Catholic school coaches love to bitch about U of I. Football and basketball especially.

This implies the percentage was probably close to 50%, else they would have thrown out the way bigger number.

Which implies that close to 50% are NOT content taking less NIL than their top offer, ie close to 50% of the blue chips surveyed are only in it for the NIL.

Not saying they shouldn't get it, or that they're not entitled to make as much as they can, but a lot of these players are going to be in a world of pain when they enter the workforce.

Imagine getting paid $300K yearly, free training table/housing/athlete perks/getting treated like a throughbred horse, getting to slack in a lot of classes... next thing you know, you've graduated from State U and are working entry-level HR in a cubicle somewhere.

Yeah it's possible, considering only like 2% of college athletes make it pro. Although, the percentages are likely higher for Blue-Chip recruits.

Man, if these kids are taught anything about investing, when they walk away from the college game and money, they could have themselves a great head start on life as they enter the professional working world.

ND would do well to offer a financial wellness business course focused specially on that. Title it: The 40 year Competitive Advantage. Required course for athletes.

I believe Ryan Harris already did something similar for current and former nfl players at ND.

That's how I look at it. You get to live comfortably while in college and if you are smart you will have some walking around money when you are done in addition to doing some investing and saving. If you do it right, the sky's the limit.

Imagine walking away from college with a bachelors, and/or a masters, with zero student loan debt, and let's say 200k in savings.

I'm 30 and I haven't even reached that yet in my life.

I run an independent comprehensive wealth firm and had an intro lined up with a big time college player with NIL and got uncle’d last minute out of nowhere. I thought it was so damn funny since we joke about the uncle stories on here so much.

For sure. I'm certainly not saying the kids shouldn't have it that good just because its temporary. I just think there's going to be a lot of kids that treat it like a lifestyle that's going to last and might have a hard time realizing that they "peaked" from a value perspective when they were 18. But c'est la vie.

Sounds like a juicy story. How much more are you willing to share?

The whole thing is wild right now. He’s getting blown up with texts and phone calls everyday from “advisors.” Pretty weird for grown men in our profession to be hounding teenagers like that but that’s just my opinion.

My client has taken a great role in his life and wanted to introduce me since they know he doesn’t have much guidance. I didn’t plan on making the kid a client, really wanted to educate him on the basics - taxes, compound interest, liquidity etc.

As we’re getting it set up, out of the blue they tell me the uncle isn’t allowing him to speak to anyone. Caught me pretty off guard as my clients been the only one really involved with the school stuff so far.

Would absolutely love to see how the NIL contract is worded though so hopefully it comes back around!
