Not that it was the deal breaker, but we really should’ve arrived in Miami before yesterday mid afternoon. Should’ve gave players more time to acclimate to humidity.

Line needs help. Defense looked confused. Leadership is lacking

For what looked like it could have been a disaster, we looked better in most phases of the game as the game progressed.

My hope is this. Freeman seems to be an incremental improver. Hopefully he works with his coaches to clean up these areas:

• Online play
• Offensive play calling (turn Carr loose early and get Love the rock more)
• D getting pressure and playing more aggressive

On the positives:

• Carr looks like the real deal
• Price and Love can dominate going forward, provided we clean up the line play/players
• The team didn’t quit when down 21-7 and 24-14.

Legitimately when is the last time they came to SB. 2012 was at Soldier Field. I said this from the jump. ACC is trying to fuck us.
They apparently blamed a “scheduling snafu” for getting to back out of coming to Notre Dame last season. They haven’t been to South Bend since 2016 and the last two games have been at Miami.

Clearly Denbrock and Freeman looked at it like this: CJ Carr, in his first start, on the road, against a defense with no film to go off of, is going to get the vanilla treatment.

They know Miami is going to play to take away inside run, so they throw screens to move the defense horizontally so the run game can get some room.

I don't hate the approach. I don't get the pitchforks for Denbrock sentiments.

Also, people need to realize that the OL was not going to be a bunch of maulers. Just because they returned four doesnt mean any of these guys are all-American OL. It is a good OL, but it's not a great one. ND is not going to run right at teams and blow them off the ball with this OL.

This offense is going to get a lot better as the REDSHIRT FRESHMAN QUARTERBACK develops and grows into his potential. I thought Carr looked like the truth, the game was not too big for him. His throwing ability will open up the running game as weeks go on.

Every game is a must win now. These early high profile games are a necessity with independence, the only downside to it.

Loss by three points to a talented (yet not overly) Miami team on the road against a veteran QB with a QB making his first career start.

Lots to work out on both sides of the ball. But, no need for any dramatic hot takes.
This. I am not losing any sleep.

The worst part about this loss is how fucking important Texas A&M is, because 10-2 with ND's schedule is going to be rough for playoff seeding.

Chris Ash coached defense for 3.5 quarters like he hadn’t had a meaningful defensive call in a few years.

I’m going to choose to believe he sort of figured it out.

But man with all the momentum that last defensive drive still had no juice.

Any team can be left out at 10-2. This schedule is just okay and if we don't have a big win we aren't in. 11-1 is it.

1. Mike Denbrock called the worst game I have seen since Parker vs Clemson in 2023. Just unreal that you would not show up trying to run it straight at them if you didn't trust Carr. While Faison had some heroic moves, none of those screens were set up for success yet we ran about 10 of them. Pure insanity.

2. The OL, as a whole, had a horrendous showing. Tons of missed assignments or just getting flat out beat in their individual matchup. Knapp is comically overrated and probably needs to be playing guard. The RG position was a disaster. Wagner going against Bain was rough but at least that guy is a projected 1st round draft pick.

3. Jury is out on Ash. Not a horrible game, only 300 yards for Miami. But when we needed a stop on the final drive we didn't get it, when Gray got knocked out for a play we somehow ended up with a true freshman 1v1 for a TD.

4. It's hard to beat top 10 teams on the road and we would've been much better off playing that game Week 8 versus Week 1.

5. CJ Carr is very good and needs to learn how to protect himself when running.

Hobbs is also bad. If that's Clark out there we probably win.
But also where was Davonte Smith? Feels like he played about two series.

Our defense in general needed to make more plays. Aside from Traore no one in the front seven did much. Why not more Bryce Young?

Offensively, yeah, too many screens and short shit in traffic, not enough Love. Carr's a ballplayer but will need a little more time to develop, which is fine. The OL was lousy, summed up by Wagner - quite possibly our best - getting bitched on the last series. Without an OL we will lose two more games and be playing in some Meaningless Bowl. Which would be disappointing.

Play calls don’t work if they’re not executed. Seems Denbrock gets cute, behind the chains, and gets away from our position of strength. Happened last year too. OL played great at times, disastrous last drive.
Going to be tough to get a push with just 4. Need to get creative. Thought Ash did a good job in second half taking 10 out of the game. Hard to prepare for a true freshman like that.
I’m not happy, not sad. Saw a lot of good, some bad, but it’s week 1 and the lads showed grit in a tough place. Go get A&M

I was never, at any point comfortable with what I saw from RL last year, even when the playoff hype train was ROLLING,… i feel the same way with all the Carr love tonight. He lost. I didn’t see anything to make me down on him, but nothing to make me high on him either. He missed open guys numerous times, most of which were short throws… he threw high and could have thrown more picks. I get totally it’s his first start, I am NOT bashing,… so I’m waiting, but I’m sure as hell not heaping major love on a qb that just lost a game after throwing two picks either,… there’s lots to figure out and QB is in that lot
