Just read through the thread after walking back to my Air BnB. I probably would have overreacted like that right after the game but got to talk things out with my buddies during the walk. I think we’ll be alright, probably 10-2 and that’s perfectly fine. Sneak into the playoffs and go for a run. Need to figure out what the bell is going on with our lines but CJ is him

(This isn’t bashing Carr,… it’s about the tone of the program since what seems like forever now) no matter where it goes the team just lost again bc of not trusting the QB,… DAMN can we please for the love of fuck get past that!!! I’m sure I’m tunnel visioned but I really feel strongly in this moment that no other program with real perennial top ten aspirations has been living with that void for this long,… why is it so fucking hard to figure that positions out?? I don’t ever want to lose again bc, ‘well QB trust this or QB ability that,..,’ trust your guy or spend the money we know you have and get a real qb that can actually be trusted to do actual quarterback shit and throw the ball downfield
And where all of these QBs? Have you peeked at the QB play at other top programs? QB play across the board at the collegiate and NFL level has regressed seriously.

I agree with the overall tone of your post though, I think we should have put more trust in Carr sooner, but it is what it is now. I think as the season progresses we'll see him cut it loose. It's important to remember Carr is a RS Fr making his first ever start and getting his first ever significant playing time at this level and it was on the road against a top 10 team.

Go get some really good fish tacos tomorrow. Just live it up. You watched a really good ballgame. Shit, we came back!

We aren’t losing to TA&M in two weeks.

Once Miami got to 21 they went into super conservative mode...almost cost them and likely will later this year.

It’s not just today though,… I’m venting on what seems like the last ten YEARS,… anyway

Clearly Denbrock and Freeman looked at it like this: CJ Carr, in his first start, on the road, against a defense with no film to go off of, is going to get the vanilla treatment.

They know Miami is going to play to take away inside run, so they throw screens to move the defense horizontally so the run game can get some room.

Sure but the mistake was going to the well too many times with the bubble screen and and designing plays for the tight end to get touches in the short passing game and screen game rather than love and price.

You gotta get those guys more touches and it can be on the perimeter. Price looked great and got half a dozen carries. I'm sure Miami was thankful.

Carr could have made more plays down field too. Maybe they didn't know that going into the game but it became obvious. We are all bitching about the line but they have him plenty of time in the second half, excluding the last drive. Gotta take some shots.

I get it, I've been a fan since 2005, so I've see a lot of garbage at QB. Carr is going to be a a great one. By October he'll be cooking. Keep the faith!

This thread is TLDR so apologies for redundancy. From what I did read, I mostly agree with all of you. Here’s what is frustrating…

The ND beat…every outlet…was trash this offseason. I like & respect a ton of those guys (Prister, O’Malley, Brice, Sampson, James, Hanson, et al) but EVERYTHING they reported & predicted turned out to be the polar opposite tonight. I get they can’t help the lack of access to practice but it’s really devolved into content creation when they’re taking last year’s results & performances & assuming they’ll be that much better this year despite the loss of senior leaders. I guess that qualifies as journalism in 2025. I wouldn’t pay for it. This is what I hate preseason polls but I expected better insights from the ND beat.

The OL is not top 3-5. The effort on the final drive was embarrassing. I don’t have to detail the frustration of Love & Price getting minimal carries b/c that’s been stated ad nauseam

The DL is average at best & the DT lacks in every aspect of the game. CMF went out of his way to discuss his pleasant surprise by the DT & the media dutifully lapped it up…and they got their shit pushed in tonight. If an avg fan criticized Hinish for being too small, he was scolded by the beat that he’s able to overcome that & be a force. He is a good pass rusher (at least last season) but he still catches tackles when he’s not getting abused by OL. Don’t recall hearing Onye or Rubio name called. Just bad. Haven’t checked stats but only TFL I recall was when Miami RB slipped and fell for a loss on a crucial 3rd down in 2H.

Secondary is far from elite. I came to the conclusion that Leonard Moore may have been the best cover CB last season b/c he had guys like Watts on the back end & Kiser directing traffic. Not to mention Riley Mills & Cross up front. He’s still great but let’s hold off on ”best cover CB in the nation”. Hobbs? This ain’t preseason…you’re playing legit offenses now. He looked slow tonight. Shuler? Quit being passive. If he goes for the catch instead of sitting back & waiting on it, it’s an INT. If he goes for the hit, it’s likely a PBU. He’s still a really good safety but the lack of experience as the main dude showed tonight (he’ll be fine long term)

Was Greathouse even targeted? I thought Raridon was a freak athlete who just needed to stay healthy & the NFL awaited him? He did some good things tonight but he also had two passes clank off his hands (admittedly one was coming in hot & a bit high but he’s got to make that catch in that situation). That said, I think he’ll still be a solid contributor if he stays healthy.

That last drive!?!? Holy shit. Even the drunk Miami fans knew what ND was gonna do. And the effort was inexcusable assuming they were truly prepared for the heat & humidity of Miami. Wagner had his two worst plays that I can recall on consecutive downs in that last drive. Is the season over? Hell no…far from it but aTm is gonna be a toss up & I could see Elko winning the coaching battle all things being equal.

ND battled & never gave up. I appreciate that & took solace in the fact that they battled until the end. That should pay dividends moving forward & w/ the new CFP format, they’re still in great shape. However, if the effort & play calling (both sides) tonight doesn’t improve, they’re a four loss team. On the bright side, they can build on this and run the table or at least be in the mix at season’s end.

Somewhat shocking stat: ND’s RBs averaged 4.9 ypc while Miami’s averaged 3.7
That does surprise me considering most of us are going on our instant feedback of the game w/o rewatching the film. It also begs the question why they went away from Love & Price and never gave them a chance to really get going. I get using them as a decoy in certain situations but damn

I’ve been desperately wanting a natty since I became a die hard in,… 89. I won’t share my full thoughts on the ‘oh well, next time’ bullshitters but I will say I’m beyond exhausted, I’m fucking tired boss, and I just want the consistent issues to be addressed the way anyone with any coaching experience would expect them to be,… and not trusting the qb or not having a good enough one has been the most pressing issue with this program for far too long,… gonna be a LONG two weeks. Anyway I’m just hurt and am too stubborn to do what so many around me have done and just jump teams. Just being honest

It’s 12:34ET and I’m going to say this again as an OL guy:

Losing Jagusah was a way bigger issue than anyone considered. It totally fucked everything.

I get listening to them because we’re all degenerate freaks who keep doing this to ourselves. But in 2025, literally the entire ND beat are just fans who get free tickets to games.

They *barely* know more than you or I. And sometimes they’re worse because they’re blinded by their sense of superiority as credentialed media members.

People are going to get pissed at me and that's fine.

But I think a lot of this comes down to - Miami looked pretty damn good. Will they stay this good or just played out of their butts some? Who knows.

But tonight, Miami's trenches may just have been better than NDs. And some of the "we sucks" are a bit overreaction.

Frankly, it kind of reminded me of the Louisville game a couple of years back. Now it was not on the scoreboard the same beating but in the trenches, it felt like it. And then Louisville got exposed by Pitt, Kentucky, FSU and USC.

Every captain on this team outta be ashamed of themselves and be stripped of their captaincy.

You had 6 captains. SIX.

EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM, played like turbo ass.

Wagner was getting whooped off the edge.

Pauling? Hello, Pauling? Did he even fucking play?

Donovan Hinish was a great ragdoll today! His brother should be sooooo proud!

Drayk Bowen got his ass beat. Shameful.

Adon Shuler. Have you returned from LALA LAND YET!?

Billy Schrauth, more like Billy STRASH!!!!
