I have a problem with this. I've never liked Whoopi, neither her comedy nor her personality. I find her grating, annoying, unfunny, and couldn't care less about her opinion on anything. OTOH, I hate cancel culture and I think a two week suspension for what she said is BS. I don't think she was intentionally trying to be hateful or anything else. She expressed an opinion awkwardly and from a point of ignorance, not malice. She took responsibility, explained herself, and apologized. That's enough in my book. Suspending her for two weeks was nothing but virtue signaling and pandering on the part of her employer.

Whoopi has a problem sharing the victim pie. Especially if she has to share it people of that skin tone.

I think the problem many people have is Disney hypocrisy. They let Gina Carano go for comparing current treatment of conservatives to measures the Nazis used against Jews. Sharon Osbourne was axed for defending her friend Pier Morgan after he said he didn't believe Duchess Meghan's account of palace events. Roseanne lost her show too for stupid comments that she made. All these events have something in common: someone made some dumb comments that they probably should have held back. The only difference is that the conservatives lost their jobs while Whoopi got a slap on the wrist (And her colleagues thought that was too much as is).

I agree, however I was in a doctors office with the view on like two weeks ago and she was mocking those with your stance insisting it’s the ‘accountability culture, not cancel’……. Hard to feel sorry for her.

Not sure who has been following the Rogan saga /w Spotify. Joe released a video about a day ago addressing the controversy, seemed rather well thought out. I've often wondered if some of these louder voices chanting for change have even listened to his podcast. Thought this was appropriate.

regardless of Joe’s response, his detractors won’t be happy until he’s taken off Spotify. The irony is that a majority of his critics have never listened to an entire podcast. There’s multiple posts on Twitter w/ mash-ups taken out of context from multiple 3-4 hour conversations to paint him in a negative fashion. It justifys why he won’t go on interview shows…he knows they will be edited “for the sake of time” and he won’t be able to control the way they paint him in the final cut. Bill Maher encouraged him to appear on his show as well. Joe was polite about it but basically said “your show devolves into differing sides yelling over each other”.

I don’t agree with a lot of what Rogan says or believes. I do enjoy the free form conversation with some of his guests that I deem compelling to me. Rogan is a pot-smoking, Liberal, atheist (although he doesn’t like that word & is probably more agnostic) stand up comic who also enjoys martial arts but the MSM would have you believe he’s some alt-Right Trump supporter who is anti-vax…he’s not.

Rogan signed a $100M deal with Spotify - they are financially committed or else they would have already worshiped at the woke altar. Not one person has brought up his contract. I don't doubt his reaction to date is heavily influenced by what his agent/attorney think strengthens his legal position if they flake. Highly doubt he signed something with very much control over his content - to the contrary inhibiting his production is probably protected (would be crazy to negotiate anything less).

He would be well served to get paid to leave and monetize again via any channel he wants to. I don't doubt that is what his folks are negotiating while he plays nice.

Sharon Stone throwing her 2 cents in regarding Rogan. So far it seems like a bunch of washed up celebs are using this for attention.
Probably a combination of items. I don't doubt that they want Rogan off Spotify, but I think you are right to suspect some level of self serving in their public statements.

I think some of these "artists" jumping in are simply opportunists trying to get more money from themselves. India Arie claimed she was taking herself of Spotify because, Joe Rogan is racist, but then added it was also because she felt "artists" should be making more money from royalties, as well as her dislike of "non-artists", i.e. a peon podcast host, such as Rogan, making the percentage of money they do.

So, magically, if certain people get more money, then not only is their "artistry" restored, but I guess misinformation and racism are eradicated as well.

Want to make more money from your music? Make your music less available. Makes sense!

Latest washed up celebrity that wants their music pulled: Streisand. This would make my wife happy, she's got the worst version of Jingle Bells ever recorded. I can't listen to it for more than 20 seconds either.

I remain confused, perplexed.

If the First Amendment rings true, and there is freedom of speech and press, then is it not actuarially likely that each of us, at different times and places, will see
information
opinion
positions

that will upset us as frequently as we see those that delight us?

Is this not the bargain of the marketplace of freedom of speech and ideas?

Streisand is odd to me,… I’ve never met a single person that likes her and most I know loathe her and yet she’s still got pull with,…. Who exactly? Apparently someone out there

Being born in the 70s, thought the big nose was sexy back then.

Today, perhaps not so much. She's kinda like @Irish#1 , @IrishLax , @irishog77 , and Killz (I refuse to use his new handle)...

I picture Whiskey/Supe as R Welch with much smaller boobs though.

#1 has the best thighs ever.

But your potato love is erotic to me. Nobody will ever be better.

Saw GoFundMe is axing the $10 million fund setup for the Canadian trucker protest. Taking over downtown Seattle and murdering people was cool last year though.

While I disagree with them axing the fund for the trucker protest, that wasn't even the worst part. All hell broke loose last night and this morning when it became clear that the people who donated to the fund had to manually request a refund. Anyone who didn't request a refund ....... GoFundMe was going to take that money and donate it to certain charities as they saw fit. What are the chances that those donations would've gone to charities that the original contributors would support?

When it became clear that the uproar was intensifying, GoFundMe quickly changed their tune and said they would refund to everyone automatically. The damage is done though. This is not a giant social media company that can't quickly be replaced. People will start using other sites for their crowd funding. Huge misstep.

Yup I’ve not been much of a ‘I’ll never do business again’ guy,… I shop or whatever with a number of businesses that support shit I find morally corrupt,… but I’m moving to be much more selective with each passing year. It’s the hypocrisy and selective enforcement of this shit like Ulk pointed out that does it for me. I don’t see myself using GFM ever again. If someone I know needs support and chooses that route, I’ll donate directly or oh well

The left has gone so insane that Bill Maher sounds like he could fill in for someone on Fox News these days. Kudos to him for speaking out and calling it as it is.

Most media outlets haven't even touched the Johns Hopkins study that came out this week, and we all know why.

Well there are reasons that Baskin Robbins makes 31 flavors.......

This is a true story. I was once covering a broker in Midtown Manhattan, good guy, took care of his customers, unMadoffianly, but was feisty, typical of the Manhattan realm. His name was Kevin B............... and no I will not give up his last name. This was mid 90s ish

We had entertainment money to sprinkle around.
Keven, begged, pleaded with me to get him two tickets for the then upcoming Barbara Streisand concert. He was more plaintive than coercive.
Kevin's wife loved Streisand. and he was entreating for two tickets for the concert and he then played his trump card "If we get to go to the concert, my wife will give me..................................." Again, he was more desperate than anything.

Well I got him the tickets.

And was handsomely rewarded with a significant uptick in business.

I never asked Kevin if he got HIS reward; after all, gentlemen and swine never probe...

The funny part about this promotion of the CHOP by GoFundMe is how they characterized the Canadian trucker protest and why the donations were shut down. Here's their reasoning:

“We now have evidence from law enforcement that the previously peaceful demonstration has become an occupation, with police reports of violence and other unlawful activity.”
“Following a review of relevant facts and multiple discussions with local law enforcement and city officials, this fundraiser is now in violation of our Terms of Service (Term 8, which prohibits the promotion of violence and harassment) and has been removed from the platform,” the company said.

That's some real hypocrisy. That previous support of the CHOP came after the killings too. I don't have a problem with enforcing the rules, but at least try to be consistent.

It's Kevin Bacon, isn't it?! Who knew he moonlighted as a broker in the 90s? Kyra Sedgwick still looks pretty good for 56.
