Curious how the defenders of freedom of speech will take to people paying for priority access and having non-paying users having reduced visibility

Imagine if Jack tweeted this? It would be another "Big Tech + Big Media = woke activist globalist". Of course now that he's advocating for the other team it doesn't matter to them. I fully expect those that stick to their guns to condemn him using his position as Twitter CEO to tweet this.

(My position is - if it's a private business he's allowed to do what he wants and as long he follows the TOS it doesn't matter. )

Priority visibility doesn't infringe on free speech. It's a freemium business model. Want better visibility? Then pay. I have no issue with it. Don't want to pay? You can still use the platform but your engagement will be lower.

I also don't have a problem with his tweet. Did it violate the TOS? No. Did he suppress the opposition? No. Is this manipulating voters? No. He tweeted from his personal account, so he can share his personal opinion. Don't like his opinion? You're free to feel that way.

So, as a Twitter blue subscriber, will I get blue check without any additional verification?

Celebrities and well known personalities do it all the time and I never heard you complain before.

Agree with your points he should be allowed to do it since it is Twitter's prerogative to do it. Just think that many here who bemoan political statements being made in Big Tech

Exactly the point. I don't complain about celeb's being political shill's because they are allowed to do that. Many here complain about Liberal Hollywood or Big Tech being political, Musk said he supports a GOP congress which doesn't bother me but for those that don't like politics entering Big Tech they should be upset if they want to be consistent. See how that works.

Maybe it wasn't intentional, but the inference I took from your post was you were questioning Musk and him using his position of a celebrity. See how that works?

Read my first post - I said it personally doesn't matter to me. If Zuckerberg said he supports a Dem house do you think anyone here would have an issue with that?

Nothing but drama.
Yup. That's how that Slack message read.

I do not believe he cares about the human rights activists. the dissidents, our users in un-monetizable regions, and all the other users who have made Twitter the global town square you have all spent so long building, and we all love.
Won't someone think of the little guy in Africa that doesn't have food to eat, but has the capability to use Twitter? Silly. I thought he did clean house rather fast. I would guess he retained the more critical engineers needed to keep the product moving, but working in software sometimes people most familiar with certain application functions get lost to the bottom line and things struggle for a bit. I think trimming the fat is a good thing though, these kinds of companies often have too much bloat. Time will tell how they progress, but if I had to guess Twitter is going to wind up being more profitable now long term and should attract new advertisers to supplant any that were lost.

I don't think Twitter is going to make it to June 2023.

It's great because I was assured this was going to be good for free speech. Him saying that he was going to outright suppress non-paying users is jokes because I agree with the basic premise of it just that many were shrieking about shadow bans and censorship have nothing to say about him admitting to doing it. At the end of the day it comes down to "source dude trust me" vs Elon saying he's going to do it. Advertisers not wanting to be part of 4chan-lite is also pretty jokes.

"No no no this isn't censorship because it's for a profit motive, but my feelings of there being censorship and bias totally were real."

A freemium business model that prioritizes paying customers is not suppressing free speech. It doesn't suppress information based on content, and it doesn't target subsets of people. The ROE are clearly outlined. This isn't nearly the same as shadow banning or censorship.

4Chan lite? I haven't seen any degradation of content on Twitter. Have you? Show me some examples in your feed.

You're correct on those points. Which is why pre-Elon following the TOS was also not shadow banning or censorship.

I mean, I saw someone with a verified badge as GWB saying they loved to bomb Iraqis. But my experience is just anecdotal so it really doesn't mean anything.

Would that be a bad thing? Do the benefits truly outweigh what it offers? I don’t know the answer & don’t have a definitive opinion one way or the other, but what would American society be like w/o Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/TikTok/etc?

It's a shit show and there's one person to blame.
It's always been a shit show.

I think we'd all be better off without these apps, but that's just me. I have Twitter and only follow a few for sports. I have a FB account only to promote work, but I can't remember the last time I logged in.

So can we put the whole “liberal” media nonsense to bed after this election?

Cluture War issues (most of which are a complete distraction) sure there is a liberal/libertarian bias, but just about everything else (economics, foreign policy, ect…). Not really.

My personal opinion is that when it comes to economics and foreign policy the media has a more pro corporate/neocon bias than anything.

Anyhow, it was also interesting to see most major media outlets pick up on and start parroting GOP talking points leading up this this election and begin to use that as the basis to predict the now infamous “red wave”.

I mean even NPR was prattling on about “the possibility” that “we might” be headed for a recession. During this entire inflation discussion I have not heard the tax cuts under Trump mentioned at all as a possible contributing factor. Shit is pretty ridiculous.

So we can say Putin is a good guy now, right?

So North Korea is a hotbed of liberty, right?

So the ocean view property in Kansas is hot right now, right?

Tax cuts + PPP loans = Good cuz trickle down economics is fail proof, I've been told many times on here that anything prior to Biden doesn't matter. Economic life cycles are two year periods.

Not 100% sure this pic isn't doctored, but appears to be legit. It certainly made me laugh about the meltdown from the former Twitter employees who got deservedly canned for their extraordinarily biased suppression of speech from one side.
