I wouldn't say I would take that in a heartbeat.

I would take that. But that's about as bad as I would be even remotely ok with. 7-5 would be very, very disappointing to me.

2012 Notre Dame preseason predictions - Notre Dame Football Blog - ESPN

Fortuna is always pretty good. Al Lesar got his own thread, so why not give Fortuna one too.

He has them going 8-4 and playing Cincy in the Pinstripe Bowl which would actually be pretty awesome. I would take 8-4 and that solid bowl matchup in a heartbeat.

That was my pick. Losses to USC, OU, And one of the Mich schools and our annual "WTF" game.

And I'm not really gonna be "happy"......If we could steal one from USC, OU.. it would be awesome.

But could be very likely. I know we hear a ton of fluff on this website...but it's still a shaky secondary (at best) and a new QB....

not denying that it's a real possibility, but that would still disappoint me. And I wouldn't think 8-4 (regardless of the meaningless bowl matchup) would be "pretty awesome" by any stretch of the imagination.

Obviously, Matt didn't pay attention while Holtz was teaching ND Yearly Predictions 101.

I think he's pretty much spot on. I'm leaning a little more toward 9-3 with losses to Mich. St., OU, and USC. Stanford and BYU shouldn't be as good as past years IMO and they are home games. I would give ND more of a shot against OU if it was home. And Miami...they just aren't that good. This is obviously only if ND plays well and limits turnovers in every game...we all know that that's difficult to ask for from a team week in and week out.

because no other teams have any questions on their team. gotcha, we sure are doomed.

8-4 would be a disappointment. That means we lost two games we should not have.

the "pretty awesome" was referring to the bowl matchup. Better to go there then to the Belk Bowl or the Hawaii Bowl like SI's Mandel has us projected.

Seems like a fair article. Tuitt is not much of a call. Who does not project him as a freak?

I also like how he points out no one in their right mind would have projected the fiasco 10 turnover start to the season.

If Golson is the future, does that not imply he is at least servicable this year with flashes of upside in order to keep the job? That would mean to me we upset someone and do better than 8--4.

I will be interested to see this season with all of your positive optimism, whether you become part of IEs meltdown crowd or you take it in stride when ND has the eventual WTF game. Its too bad the game day threads are not archived because they are hilarious. The normally sane positive posters become raving lunatics.

This team has the talent to exceed expectations. The key to this season is going to be turnovers and penalties. If we can become a much more disciplined team in both of these areas we should do okay and a 2 or 3 loss season is possible.

Not if you look at the preseason Top 25 when we have 5 teams ranked a head of us there. I am not saying I think we lose 5. I see us beating scUM, and MSU (maybe), but could see us losing to Stanford and for sure see us losing to OU and SCum. I can see a 9-3 season and would be estatic and a lil disappointed but not jumping with a 8-4 (possibly jumping if one of those Ls is to Michigan)

8-4 is doable and I'd take it. With a new QB, starting RB out first 2 games...need a strong D and great ST to buy us some time. Tack on a bowl victory, and 9-4 makes me feeling good going into '13.

To me, 8-4 means the Irish played right at or even just under potential. I'm not expecting miracles, but ND can be 9-3 or even 10-2 if they plug some leaks and play their hearts out.

8-4 would be a good year if we beat everyone we should beat and then pull 1 upset. For a young team with a freshman QB that's great. Also ND at Yankee Stadium again would be so cool.

Five opponents ranked above ND.

Five games where the odds have ND as underdog.

Most pundits picking ND with 5 losses.

Which are the 10 (8 + 2) games ND has locked up?

Sorry, 8-4 sucks. We should fall to two teams on the road (OK/USC). 1 team is a toss up at home (UM) and another (MSU) we owned last year and is overated this year in a big way. We should be favored in the rest. A 3 loss year is acceptable. Anything else is a step backward. It's simply time to start winning the games we SHOULD win. If the coaching and development is there, 9-3 or 10-2.

Also, from a Vegas or Smith's line (odds) perspective, we are favored (at least we were a couple weeks ago) in all games excpet MSU, OK, and USC.

If we win @MSU at night we will go 10-2, count on it. Sadly I thnk we go 8-4 with losses @MSU, Stanford, @OU, @USC and get a win in a crappy bowl.

9-4.

Lol I was burned the last 2 years when I predicted 9-3 in 2010 and 10-2 in 2011. Trying to play it safe this year. I'd be fairly happy with 9-4 this year.

I'm with you. I was sick after the FSU loss. Told myself I wasn't going to get excited this year. Sucks I can't even be honest with myself... LOL. With EG starting, the frosh WRs making waves, TE back, OL strong, RBs deep, team speed on the rise, and the only real ?s at CB, I'm going to take a leap of faith again. I know QB is a ?, but I can't see us having more TOs than last year. Come on 10-2.

U$C and OU are the only games we should be the underdog in. I dont care about the rankings. Rankings are based on win/loss record of last year, who gives a sh!t.

I will be interested to see this season with all of your positive optimism

Ill be interested to see how pessimists react... oh wait, that is the point of pessimism, target low, be happy when you overachieve, you cant go wrong.... btw: positive optimism is a redundant statement.

OK. But hard to see how we're significant favorites against MSU, UM or Stanford, though, All three are probably tossups at this point.
If we win two of those three, play USC and Oklahoma well and win the games we're supposed to, I'd consider it a successful season.
