This is what happens when you allow the inmates to run the asylum

Terrible search process leads to terrible results on the field
Would you please explain for the posters who are a few too many in and don't get it? You're a great poster, FWIW, by the way.

The reason people were optimistic about this year was the idea that we would run the ball on everyone with an "elite" OL. Two NFL OTs and an NFL C, just needed to find two guys to play guard, and Kristofic looked good last year.

Somehow, the OL might even be worse than a year ago.

So you have bad passing game, bad OL, mediocre RBs, bad WRs, bad play calling. You have a good TE. That's it. This is the most dysfunctional ND offense I can remember since Weis 2007. It does nothing well right now.

The defense is "fine" but we've all seen that even with ELITE defenses like some past LSU teams had you are limited in what you can actually accomplish without any sort of offense. You will be in every game, but one or two mistake and you lose.

This isn't Elon Musk type of take. It's something many of us have worried about especially after the bowl game. We thought he could make It happen. MF has zero experience in the heat of the moment coaching experiences.

I said it back in December that Freemen was a bad hire. Unfortunately, he’s going to be here a while
It’s called virtue signaling. Freeman is the defensive equivalent to Tommy Rees who was mentored by Fickle a legit good HC in the same way Kelly kept Rees on a short leash. Freeman has a great rah rah side to him but it doesn’t make up for X’s & O’s. The feel good part of this experiment is officially over. Question is do we have to let him take us down with him as long as we did with Willingham? As soon as Urban says he would take the job he gets replaced just like Willingham but this time make sure Urban signs the dotted line. Enough of these perfect humans but shitty coaches as out coaches.

That's ridiculous Lax. Kelly won 11 games whih these guys, Freeman will to fortunate to win 5. Freeman has been coaching this team since Jan and they have indisputedly gotten worse. Freeman has had this team thru Spring and Summer camp, Kelly hasn't.
To Lax's point, the only reason Notre Dame didn't lose to Toledo last season was because the Toledo player literally was too dumb to fall down and kick a FG. That's it.

This game was worse because Marshall put together two 75+ yard drives that just consistently moved the ball right through the ND defense. As bad as the ND offense is, WTF was that from Al Golden? Against OSU I was really impressed by the horizontal movement from the LBs. Today, their shifty RB ate their lunch when he hit a hole for 8 yards all day.

Nick Saban lost to ULM in his first year at Alabama. Shit happens. But Jesus Christ this was a bad performance by ND, from the top down.

This is Notre Dame not Central Michigan. MF deserves time to develop as a coach before ever being considered being the HC at Notre Dame. The only reason he "deserves time" is because Charlie Weiss and Bob Davie were given time. A first time head coach who proved almost nothing in his coaching career relative to programs and coaches at the ELITE programs should have a shorter leash. Brian Kelly was given a longer leash because he had a track record of success. Freeman is 0-3 and that is all we have. This is also 2022, teams can be turned around with "free agents" and a bunch of bags of money. If Nd is unwilling to play the game off the field then maybe they should wait it out give the guy 3 years while programs like Texas, USC and even A&M stack. The fall of Notre Dame will benefit other programs... like Michigan.
He deserves time because he’s already the HC and it’s not even been a full year. TR most certainly does not need time and needs to go.

The offense doesn’t believe in anything. There’s no consistency, no plan and no bread and butter. And when they do find something that works, they go away from it.

I genuinely don’t understand what’s going on. But like you said, 2007 is the last time I saw a ND offense that looked this poorly designed and executed from sideline to the field.

I wasn't being sarcastic, my friend. I just didn't understand the analogy. That's on me. I want to understand.

I feel defeated. But I'm looking for a glimmer of hope, is all. Keep fighting, Irish! All of us "scumbag Scranton folk" live for this shit.

I'm also openly drunk for the first time on this board.

The defense has been enough to be 2-0. I think we know TR won’t be fired this week so the next best hope is they change from ‘run first, ball control’ offense where TB is handcuffed and let him use his legs more and be a gunslinger.

Seeing how they’ve restricted TB the way they have to start the year makes passing on Daniels even more baffling.

Not much ND can do. Who would they get to replace him? Steve Spurrier? Lou Holtz?

In short, the powers that be at ND listened to the threats, feelings, and perspectives of 18-22 yr/olds instead of following a solid search process for a new head coach and team of coaches. All the talk was, the players wanted Freeman. The Tommy talk was similar.

It seems from the outside looking in that we hired Freeman and Tommy because that's what the players wanted and if we didn't there would have been some type of revolt or mass exodus. Well, now look what pot of crap we're sitting in.

I had serious concerns after the bowl game. Serious concerns. Freeman looked way over his head. He still does. While we may not be able to pinpoint all that is broken, it seems clear, MANY things are broken. And I just don't think that can be chalked up to Kelly's departure or players who exited after the 2021 season. This level of "stink" seems to be squarely on the shoulders of the current coaching staff.

Have a lot on my mind after this game so going to jump around a bit and express some thoughts:

- Rees has to go, if not now then at the end of the season. There are many reasons, and watching multiple games today, and every Saturday for a while tells me he isn't a good coach. Our QB recruiting is terrible, QB development is terrible, play calling and offensive identity is terrible, and he is unwilling to make changes or show any promise for the future.

- Buchner is not the QB of the future, and with him taking snaps, we are sure to be a .500 team at best. Very one dimensional QB who crumbles when the pocket gets tighter. Throwing check downs and not taking shots on 3rd downs is inexcusable.

- MFMF needs time but I am not sure how much he will get. I understand this is his first HC job but it might be time to turn down the player coach dial a little and up the ass chewing accountability dial some. I believe between him and AG the defense will be fine but neither of those are able to get Rees head out of his ... and I'm still not sure what HH is doing with the OLine.

- I haven't been this embarrassed to be a ND fan in a long long long time if ever as I am now. Embarrassed purely because we were ranked so high preseason due to name alone, the effort is lacking in many phases of the game, and as fans we deserve better than this.

I have stayed away from the thought that ND will never win a championship again but I am inching closer and closer to the thought that if we don't change the standards of how we do things this is the sad reality that we as fans must get used to.

Rest of the season schedule outlook:
Cal - Toss up
UNC - Loss
BYU - Loss
Stan - Toss up
UNLV - Win
Syracuse - Toss up
Clemson - Loss
Navy - Win
BC - Win
USC - We are going to get killed!

Overall : 4W - 8L

The main concern now is Buchner being legit injured on that hit. I’m afraid it’s an A/C joint sprain which is usually 3-4 weeks. Luckily it’s his non throwing arm. I have no idea where the offense can even go if Buchner can’t play and we can’t utilize his legs.

The problem is that Buchner is a gunslinger with zero ammunition.

ND has very little in terms of perimeter threats to force teams to respect the pass. So ND is in a position where the OL is too ineffective to run and the receivers are too ineffective to pass.

Pyne moved in the pocket pretty well actually, pick aside. He does a good job feeling pressure and adjusting. He got a TD with his only other drive. If TB is injured, we're going to get him regardless. Gotta try and shore up the OL if we plan on any QB getting an offense going this year.
Yeah he has another awful pick bc hes a midget and looks like a High school freshman. can't throw the the ball or see over the line. No thanks

It’s a bad loss, but it’s weird to be embarrassed about something you didn’t have any control over. It sucked, we move on. Something like this can either be galvanizing or damning. If MFMF is any more than a mouth piece, it’ll be the former. I’m super intrigued to see what changes for next week.

Again that’s a 5 star RB who did that. More talented than any RB on Notre Dame roster.
Right but why was he no longer at FSU? Reminds me of Michael Dyer scoring on ND when he was trying resurrect his career at Louisville. No excuses. Play like a Champion today.

No thanks to Pyne.

Dude was absolutely putrid when given the chance and his pocket movement means f*ck all if he's still throwing picks and his accuracy is all over the place.

It's Angeli time.

Pyne "moving pretty well in the pocket" looked like a chicken with it's head cut off.
1. Hire a QB coach (Herman) and allow him to call the plays and take over next year as full OC.
2. Start all the underclassman and save face by calling it a rebuilding year.
3. Start paying recruits to try and save this class.
