Just watched his tunnel run out. That hurt to watch. Manly tears were shed.
Defensive players won't win the Heisman IMO. It'll be Football then Te'o then Klein then Braxton then Jarvis Jones or Geno Smith. That order.
For what it's worth, i was pretty sure that Manti caused the fumble in yesterday's game. Yes, Calabrese had a big hit, but if you watch closely it was Manti's second hit which caused the ball to come out.
Let's play that up big time and if we beat USC and Manti has a "Heisman" moment then he'll have a chance. Missouri beating Johnny Football also would help.
I think he will get an invite, but to win it he needs to have a spectacular game in primetime this Saturday to keep him in the minds of the voters up until they announce the winner.
Need another big interception, sack, or forced fumble along with an Irish win and I think he gets it.
It's truly more wide open this year than any in recent memory. They might have to break the mold one way or the other - go with a freshman or a pure defensive player. Odds are still against him, but he definitely has a realistic shot at it. Something a little less than spectacular might get it done.
Well.
Then.
Give me back those ten minutes of my life and queue some dumbass gif.

Press conference video today should be up very soon. From those reporters in attendence it was an awesome one.
Some tweets:
@NDatRivals
To put Manti's press conference performance in football terms, he finished with 36 tackles, 5 sacks, 3 INTs and a fumble return for a TD.
@dennisdoddcbs
I think I am joined by everyone on this conference call when I say, Manti Teo for Heisman. That is all.
@JamesStevenson
@dennisdoddcbs did he throw for 8 touchdowns last week too?
@dennisdoddcbs
@JamesStevenson No, but he plays a thing called defense. I can spell it for you if you want. All-American, best person in the world
It helps Manti's case that Johnny Manziel is a freshman. Many voters will likely think "this kid had 3 more years to earn this." Putting my green Kool-aid aside (hard to do) I think Manti is legitimately the Heisman front-runner. His team is undefeated and unlike other contenders, Manti has not had a really off game (e.g. you can't put together a low-light reel of him missing big tackles or blowing pass coverage). Manti just needs one highlight making play in an Irish win over USC to seal the deal IMO.
I agree with this. Te'o's character, body of work, story, and lack of a loss this year all militate in his favor against Manziel. The award almost always goes to the best player on the best team at the end of the regular season. Right now, there's no argument that that's Te'o.
There are, however, a lot of Heisman voters that will reflexively vote for a QB over an ILB. Voters broke away from the "best team" requirement last year when RGIII won it (and rightfully so), so hopefully they're consciously trying to jettison the old stereotypes.
If there's ever been a year to hand it to a purely defensive player, this is it.
Didn't you call me out the other day for mentioning this?.
