Wow. This could set up a pretty epic last game of the season next year. Let's hope we live up to our end up the bargain!

I hope this doesnt influence Carlisle to stick with Stanford...

Not sure what his reasons for opening up options besides Harbough possibly leaving..

This is ****ing moronic. I thought Stanford kids were supposed to be smart. Did he learn nothing from Leinhart and Locker? This is going to cost Luck, at a minimum, tens of millions of dollars. He could've signed a deal for darn near $18-20 mil a year if he came out this year and now he will be lucky to get more than $5 mil a year if they put in a rookie wage scale and he is forfeiting one year of money making. Over the next five years, this will cost him something like $80 million.

I am utterly and totally shocked.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm kind of glad he's staying to be honest. It helps Jimmy out and gives him an opportunity to prove that he can be a leader and become a franchise QB. Also it does set up the epic end of the year, we have the potential to be undefeated going into that game. Not saying its going to happen but we could be there.

Who turns down that much money first of all and Harbaugh will probably be in the NFL too. WOW!

How can Luck's stock get any higher than it is now? even if he wins the heisman next year, he gets to be the first player drafted, which is right where he is now. Does this mean he wants to avoid being picked by Carolina? Reports have been floated out saying CAR would pick Luck with the first pick.

If getting his education is important to him, why not declare for the draft and then come back and finish his degree? there is nothing wrong with coming back and finishing his degree. I think he takes a big risk coming back for another year.

imo this means harbaugh isnt going anywhere...

I was thinking the same thing, but that is equally strange to me considering that Miami is reportedly offering $6-8 mil a year. How can you walk away from that kind of money?

Maybe he watched too many Carolina Panthers games and started asking himself "do I really want to take the same kind of beating that Clausen took" or "should I roll the dice like Bradford and end up in a better situation." If Im not mistaken Carolina gave up something like 55 sacks this year. At least Jimmy will get another chance to prove himself and not end up going down the same path as Quinn.

its rare but there are people out there that know their own skill set and the lure of big money isnt enough for them to sell off their reputation.

This is crazy that they are going to offer him this much money and have not fired their current coach.

i'm sure there's no other happier person than jimmy clausen. i'm really glad that this means the panthers might continue forward with JC. i've been really bothered by all the bashing that JC has gotten for the panthers poor play. i mean, carolina needs help all over. o-line, wr and defense. the running game is great with stewart and goodson. hopefully the panthers can trade down and pick up a good veteran wr to partner up with smith or possibly get a later pick in the 1st and maybe an extra 2nd round pick.

here's a thought..trade down and pick up rudolph???

The more I think about it I think you're right. I think Carolina scared the crap out of him. He saw Jimmy play last year and I'm sure he thought "am I really that much better than him that I wouldn't get my face beaten in too?"

The hugely ironic part is that I am 99.99% sure Carolina was saying that simply so that they could posture themselves to trade down. If they said "we're not picking him" then they would have no leverage to trade.

Dang...I hope this doesn't mean Harbough stays another year

this is THE only thing ND fans should be worried about. it's not good for the Irish if harbaugh stays at stanford or goes to UM. someone light a candle at the grotto for the rumor to be true that Miami wants to make him the highest paid coach in the league, or that San Fran snags him.

Bottom line.
