My hunch is if he makes any in-season change, it’ll be during the BYE (which will be too late).
agreed. They’ll be 5-3 going into the bye and he won’t have a choice but to reassign Parker. Then they have to hope they can run the table w/ Clemson, WF, Pitt & Stanford. Sam Hartman transferred from a team that likely goes 9-3 w/ no big wins to a more talented team that likely goes 9-3 with no big wins.

Where does Coach Gino fit in to all of this?
I think DMC would get the nod if a change in play calling happened mid season. He’s got the experience over the others and has likely been pining for the role.

Honestly, it's already too late for this season. Now it's about giving himself enough time to make a thorough, educated, qualified hire for next season.
Totally with you. I did not like the hire from the beginning. Even striking out on Ludwig and Klein, I thought MF should’ve been more patient and looked at other experienced OC’s. It felt like he rushed it just to fill the slot and probably assumed you can’t call a wrong play with the offensive talent.

I live in Arkansas where their fanbase can’t stand their OC Dan Enos. I would take him in a heartbeat right now over GP. Any experienced OC could excel w/ the talent ND currently has. Instead they put an OC in training in the role and it’s been disastrous.
Well… Freeman wouldn’t have to actually fire Enos. Danny boy would just not show up to Freeman’s staff meeting.

Sigh. Yesterday's game falls squarely on the coaches. It had little to do with OSU, nor the schedule, nor it is another night game, nor frankly Louisville. We lost the game before it started. The game plan I discerned was to spread out Louisville and attack thru the air. Nevermind the injuries and state of our wide outs. Nevermind our strengths are the RBs, OL ( yes they are ), and TEs. We idiotically tried to go "vertical" on basically every pass play. I don't know if this game was to showcase Hartman or if Parker read some obscure stat that Louisville was prone to a pass attack, but that was the game plan. The offense had no chance.

Defensively, we played well, but Louisville played smart. They played high percentage football. They ran the ball. Quick pass plays with a mediocre QB. Three yard runs in the first quarter became four five yard runs in the second quarter and third quarter and...bang. Their game plan was what I was hoping we would be playing. It is how we played early in the year. We have become lazy and frankly disrespectful to our opponents. We want the fuckin chuck plays and deep passes on every play. No continuity no focus no purpose.

This makes the OSU loss more tolerable. We were pretenders whether we beat them or not. Think how bad this loss would feel had we beaten Ohio State. What we know is the staff is highly underqualified. So the antidote is pretty clear. Change the staff.

Pretenders at 10-2 is way different than 8-4 for recruiting and building momentum

If Hartman ever slides feet first again he should be immediately benched… to slide feet first; tap defender on head then see him realize he was short AGAIN for the first was comical

I've been thinking about it and I think Freeman was a few years premature becoming a head coach. Kelly's surprise exit might have ruined his career.

He's a great recruiter, but hasn't learned how to make big coaching decisions.

Remember the the hell and brimstone when he hired Parked? It was universally seen by fans and the media as an awful decision. The reality is he didn't have a plan before Tommy left and was flat footed.

People talk about Ludwig a lot but I wonder what would've happened had he hired Klein?

At this point I think the best thing to do is start next season with an OC that's been a head coach before. That or bring in an advisor to mentor Freeman. He's definitely over his head.

A coach who is swimming and an OC that is also swimming who, let's face it, isn't really that talented at what he does is a recipe for what we've seen the last three weeks.

The problem with Ludwig was Swarbrick, not Freeman. Granted though that Freeman is in over his head.

Postgame Thoughts:
1) Louisville wanted this game more than Notre Dame
2) Parker and his play calling is killing this offense, predictable at times and if they lay an egg vs USC get rid of him
3) Our offensive line needs to watch film of prior players here, they are regressing
4) Is Audric Estime or Jawhar Jordan the national leading rusher and why didn't Love get more touches
5) What a great story it would've been about Jordan Faison...but they took him out after that possession
6) Evans played great on offense, Bertrand on defense
7) 3-13 on third down, 44 rushing yards, and 5 turnovers; tough numbers to win on
8) Sam's worst game at ND and he seemed distanced from the rest of the team
9) Hard to criticize the defense as a whole when our offense couldn't put them in good situations
10) Freeman is still the guy....

Go Irish!!

Especially after last week after his Duke heroics when he assured the media he had learned his lesson from the OSU game. That’s a rookie mistake by a sixth year QB

When your team is pissing down their leg and also playing soft, you need to find the guys who are gonna compete. They did! Faison and Love. And then they benched them. Someone’s gotta explain that to me because it seems idiotic.

I hope MF is asked about these two guys.

Well the offensive line has thrown in the fucking towel
Disagree. It’s on Parker and his play calling that puts the pressure on the line. I will say that the middle of the line has been disappointing. Louisville knew we were going to run so they loaded the box.

I don’t know if Parker scripts the first series or X number of plays but if he is, somebody needs to review it and if he isn’t, he needs to start.

The first series of plays worked great until Sam threw that pick.

What pisses me off - and what risks losing the team and really sending this season down the crapper - is that the coaches are repeatedly letting the players down.
Ten men on the field. The incredibly predictable and pedestrian offensive playcalling. Whatever the OL was doing last night. Those are all mistakes of coaching. You can't do that. You certainly can't do it repeatedly. The players have to believe the coaches know what they're doing or everything else falls apart.

Exactly the shit that killed me with OSU. It was bad at Duke, worse last night.

This.

That’s what last night was from Hartman, the OL, and then eventually the defense.

I may have already said this cuz I was pretty drunk last night but MF has allowed Ohio St to beat us 3 weeks in a row. We survived miraculously last week and we didn't last night. I was really rooting for him to be successful. I just don't see it happening
