I tend to give credit to people who have served well even if they are no longer here, as IE knows (and half the crowd hates.) So I have acknowledged Coaches Kelly, Rees, and Hiestand in the face of hatred. With this roster (and I do not yet see a particular Freeman-effect on it --- maybe a RB-coach's effect) including the great Sam, we, with those three coaches, are undefeated now and likely going to the championship tournament. I'll leave the hating crowd to currently suck their thumbs about that.

Even crazier when you consider how many drives they had in total. Offense just shit the bed and screwed over the defense which was very solid for 80% of the game.

That means we have up 200 yards rushing…. We aren’t winning when giving up 200 yards rushing

So this is midterm week... going to be a rough game Saturday night. Might rethink the 6 hour drive.

Yeah, I think Kelly is solid and rees average at best, agree we would easily be undefeated with them… that’s disgusting

Yep, Kelly — who is the reason we have no developed WRs and had no QBs of note on the roster — would’ve totally had this imaginary team undefeated if given two more years on the the trajectory he was on. The same Kelly turning in middling results at LSU with one of their worst defenses in decades.

Agree Hiestand was a huge value to ND and pretty much anyone would be an upgrade over Parker (and I was pretty high on Rees while he was here)… but good lord what revisionist history on Kelly who never had to play anything close to 4x prime time games in a row against 4x undefeated teams Top 25 teams… and lost a LOT of games to teams much worse than Louisville.

Not once in his last 5 years did he lose to someone as bad as Louisville

I don’t like Kelly, but he just went on the road and beat ranked Missouri with no defense…freeman could have beat Louisville with no offense but he’s a terrible coach

Kelly got coan to nd. 11-1, Kelly got Daniels to lsu, lsu would stomp us and you know it

Woke up this morning feeling great. I feel like I mentally broke up with this team in the 3rd quarter and I feel better for it today. Moving on. I always tell people that sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to realize what changes you need. I honestly hope ND can see this isn’t it and makes some big changes. It honestly might take losing out and losing all of our recruits and our good players transferring out. Coach Freeman and staff has set this team back. It’s not like there isn’t talent on the field. ND is way more talented at football than Duke and Louisville. The coaching awful.

2017 Miami, 2017 Stanford, 2019 Michigan were similar losses. But whatever.

I'm not sure how much this matters. Kelly left; move on. If you want to blame Swarbrick for hiring Freeman, or blame Swarbrick for forcing Rees on him and stopping him hiring Ludwig, fine.

Two Words - Marist Liufau.

ND figures out how to win if not down 10. Instead of a punt, a 15 yard personal foul when he was out of the play. That play just sucked up whatever energy ND had left. Two plays later (or was it the next), they give up the touchdown to go down 10.

He flys all over the field and does nothing but miss tackles, unless it’s a game changing personal foul penalty. Even on the occasions he does get a tackle, he tends to push the pile forward a couple extra yards. Watch him go for the big blow up hit and not wrap and tackle…..every time.

Anyway - Marist Liufau ended the championship run in one play

BK probably loses last week to Duke.

If the staff doesn’t have them prepared this week, they never will. Marcus can’t keep saying “it’s on the coaches” without any improvement.

They need to act like they’re coaching for their jobs at this point, because the SC game is going to be the biggest watershed moment for MF in his tenure.
I think the watershed moment was about 12 hours ago.

Yea I’m glad Kelly is NOT nds coach, just can’t believe we knowingly downgraded

Whoever put this schedule together should be out of a job. I don’t mean the teams being played. If this is exam week, yesterday should have been the off day. Then it’s two full weeks to ready for USC.

Four top 20 teams in a row at night in huge environments is simply too much energy to muster. Coaching, execution, focus all sucked yesterday. However, schedule making was by far the worst of all.

He's terrible at football! He has a cool look, but after that...he's a waste.

And he didn’t get benched. That sums up Freeman. He’s too nice, and it shows in our play.

I don’t have a problem with the defense as a whole. They’re the only unit that showed up the last 3 weeks. Are they world beaters? No. But they played above average, winning football. Three night time games against T25 opponents; two of them on the road.

The offense lost OSU, nearly lost Duke, and lost last night.

The terrible offense can be placed almost entirely on the OL. Tough to fix in October. Even the baffling play calls and turnovers are indirectly stemming from the inability to block anyone.
There’s no easy fix guys; it’s not one player or one coach. But we need a new offensive staff come December and if Freeman can’t pull the trigger next year will be his last

if brown is really the best we have then O’Leary needs to go

He lost us osu, missed tackles vs duke, and missed tackles vs Louisville on both of their td runs
He didn’t even get there to miss on the first TD run. Which is worse than missing.

So many gap shoots by the UL DL last night, overloaded the line when they were already struggling.

Again, bad play calling.

O'Leary should be gone for his inconsistent recruiting. He basically struck out in 2022 and Safety recruiting in the 2024 was sort of a shit show.

2017 he got blown out by a Miami team that finished with three losses, we'll see how Louisville finishes. Also got blown out by a Stanford team that finished with 5 losses.

2018 great team, but soft schedule only beat two teams that finished the year ranked.

2019 lost by 4 TDs to a Michigan team that would finish the year 19th in the polls.

2020 COVID year, great team.

2021 played an incredibly soft schedule, beat zero teams that would finish the year ranked and lost at home by multiple scores to Cincinnati in a game where the offense couldn't move the ball at all.

So yes, he did lose to "Louisville" caliber teams in embarrassing fashion multiple times. And it's crazy how much harder this year's schedule is than most years.

First time I’ve turned off a game to go for a walk. Just really bad on all levels. Faison blows the top off the defense by 5 yards and disappears. No creativity, 3rd down is an abyss, and wearing down your defense with ineptitude. I know they’re a tired and injured bunch, but you found something with Faison Ride it until they stop it. I do know there’s no one in that offensive coaching room with any answers.
