NDatRivals via Twitter:

Interesting quote from BK after he talked to Paul Longo: “It’s the best conditioned group of freshmen that (Longo) has ever trained before.”

Bodes well for us, since many of them will likely be needed this season.

Not trying to be a party pooper, but isn't this his first highly rated class? I mean it would only make sense that these guys are more conditioned than Kelly's previous recruiting classes, right?

Regardless, it is pretty good to hear.

Ok, I will play devil's advocate.
How many elite incoming classes has Longo had in his program? How good were his incoming classes at Iowa? I think this is awesome but could it be a bit overstated?

Haha I can't type as fast on an IPhone. Just to clarify though, best class Longo has had.

Longo was at Iowa from '88 - '98. During that period, Iowa won one conference championship, finished as a ranked team four times, and played in six bowl games. I think it's safe to say he saw some good recruiting classes there.

I don't see how any of the kids in this class could have compared to Bob Diaco.

Longo is a liar.

Kidding aside, I am sure Iowa had good recruiting classes but a Top 10 class? Show me and I'll believe you.

I don't see a connection. Conditioning and talent are 2 different things

No argument there. I was merely refuting the assumption that Longo came from Div. II and MAC obscurity before Cinci and ND. He spent 10 years at a competitive program, so I don't think his quote is meaningless.

Also, let's not conflate talent with conditioning. Louis Nix is undoubtedly talented, but he arrived on campus in terrible shape last year. Plenty of recruits take it easy over the summer and report for duty that way. It speaks highly of this class' drive and competitiveness that they worked hard over the summer and showed up ready to compete.

Fair point.

I will say that this class is the turning point of ND football.

And that a certain freshmen did put up 395 on bench 5xs on multiple sets earlier this week.

We getting there fellas

Could have been Carrico, Hanratty, Hegarty, Hounshell, Martin, Niklas, Rasaba, Springman or Williams. Just don't see it as Councell or Koyack, and thats off the top of my head.

So, is there a consensus on which freshmen see action this year and which we hold out for a redshirt?

I love the fact that our freshman are in shape and will be ready to compete. It sounds like our entire football team is more conditioned and that will only help us during the course of the season. I don't think we will have too many games where our players are gassed and can't play with 100 percent intensity for 4 quarters. This is great news and I really look forward to seeing which Freshmen step in and get some playing time. Can't wait till this season starts!

I have to admit that that number is pretty suprising. I had no idea Tuitt spent so much time in the weight room. I would have actually pegged him as one of the guys coming in a little raw.

On the other hand, if you look down our list, the Longo quote is not suprising. We definitly recruited kids who demonstrated a penchant for working and have the resources to do it. We may not have all 5 stars, but we definitly have gym rats.
