I actually could see it happening. It's going to be 51 degrees and raining on Saturday in Eugene. The Trees were already going to go into this game with a gameplan of keeping Oregon's offense off the field. Oregon has SIGNIFICANT injuries on their defense (missing 5 players, including their star safety) and even have a banged up QB.

If anybody should know the physical brand of football Stanford is capable of, its us. They are going to make the Ducks fight, and they aren't good at that. The conditions, injuries and importance (a win against the Ducks most likely would give Stanford the PAC12 North) make this an intriguing matchup.

Yep, Wooly hit it on the head. Oregon has to find a way to slow down Stanford's running attack.
TOP and TO margin will be the most important stat in this game for Stanford. If they can control the clock and not turn it over, they have a good shot at winning. And if they can get in a few good shots at Mariota, their chances go up exponentially.

The Ducks D to accurately quote WhiskeyJack is "decimated." We will see if Chip Kelly running with his 2nd and 3rd string defensive players during the second half blowouts for most of the season will pay off. I am not really surprised nobody read or commented on what I typed earlier in this thread.

Oregon's D is really dinged up. If Stanford's offense can power run it down Oregon's throats keeping Oregon's offense off the field. They have a great chance of winning.

Stanford also has to take the fans at Autzen out of the game.

If they control the LOS and the clock, yes. But they don't have the guns to get caught in a shootout.

It will take a monumental effort from stanford, I think that keeping oregon's offense off of the field is every teams strategy, going back to the last two years against stanford, with the same running backs and a better qb in luck they couldn't keep them off of the field long enough.

but IF they can do what you guys say, i think they have a chance as well. hopefully by the time this game rolls around, we'll have wake forest buttoned up and packed away nicely, gonna be a very good saturday!

Don't fret Veer- I saw your post. The injuries are a huge reason I'm betting this money line. Want to turn $100 into $900 in three hours? Bet this game.

Punch the Ducks (figuratively) in the face. Chase Thomas is one of 4 players for Stanford with double digit tackles for loss this season. Cal minus a significant passing threat (missing their QB and best wideout) was still able to gash the Ducks for 6.4 ypc. Stanford's offense is geared to grind it out and take the crowd out of this game.

There's no shortage of reasons to think Stanford can win this game.

Oregon hasn't played a single team in the top 25 in total defense. The only team in the TOP 50 in rushing defense they have seen all season was USC at #47th in the country. Stanford is the #1 rushing defense in the country.

So there is the difference. You have a team that ranks #3 in the country in rushing, playing the #1 rushing defense in the country on a cold, rainy day. This is a huge game with huge implications. This is not like any other game they have played all season.

I put the game somewhere around 50-50. Their strengths match up very well and Oregon's defense is on the ropes.

Exactly. Stanford CANNOT turn the ball over. If they can sit on the ball, eat up clock, and have long and physical scoring drives they have a good shot. Do NOT try and run sweets, and stretch runs out on the perimeter, run it between the tackles North and South.

The first quarter will be key. The Cardinal cannot let Oregon start fast. I would love to see a long, methodical drive to open the game from Stanford. Also mix in short and medium range passes to Toilolo and Ertz.

And even if Oregon wins, so long as it's a physical and close game we could see an emotional letdown going into the Civil War game with OSU. I still believe that's what happened to Alabama this year, they had that physical and emotional game against LSU and just came out flat against TAMU.

Right. I had a similar conversation with an Oregon kool-aid drinker the other day, and he brought up the point that "well every team has tried to do that against Oregon (hold onto the ball, dominate TOP, etc) and they weren't able to do it." But this is the best team Oregon's played all year, this is the only legit defense they'll play all year unless they play us or 'Bama in the NCG.

As mentioned earlier...I liked what Cal showed us...Oregon's D can't hold up...they aren't just vulnerable at times...they are really pedestrian in the trenches.

Stanford can put the clamps on the Duck run game...so given the weather...I'd load the box, and see if you can get some heat on Mariota...and make him beat you throwing it. Take some chances early in each half to ring his bell, and I think you can get them to stall a few times...

If stanford can hold them to 28 or less I think they win...if the ducks hang 42 or more, they win...anything in the middle I'd call a toss up...

Autzen is very loud and rambunctious. Definitely the loudest per person stadium in the country. I would say they hold their own against stadiums with larger capacity too.
Though a lot of Oregon fans have a "new money" attitude in regards to the Ducks program and it makes them EXTREMELY obnoxious.

The "new money" comment made me lol. I had a duck fan at work tell me that he disliked ND because we are "old money curmudgeons".

Then I asked him why his tie was tied in a single Windsor. I told him, "only poor people tie single windsors." Then knocked his file out of his hand and walked away.
