People are definitely laying into Cig for his latest 25-year old team acquisition... Easiest way to shut him and the IU fans are up is to beat the living shit out of them hopefully in a CFP matchup later this year.

The guy is 27-2 at Indiana, am I the only one who thinks he's a damn good coach?? I get being a hater and all, but Indiana won a Natty....A fucking NATTY in football. Could Saban/Meyer/Dabo or Marcus have pulled that off in under 30 games?

Na, he's shrewd, but I don't think he's a good coach necessarily. He bought a roster and dumbed down the schedule. It's a winning formula, but he's not a Bear Bryant or Knute Rockne. He didn't develop his players and he doesn't have some magic scheme. He brought in a bunch of Coogans to win for him.

This may not be true of all of IU's transfers, I'm not sure, but Coogan went to IU in large part because he wasn't going to start at Notre Dame and he could there. I'm sure Mendoza would have gone home to play for Miami but he wound up at Indiana because Miami chose Carson Beck instead.

Agree he's not developing these players, and I'm not some big Cignetti fan. But as a coach he does seem to be doing something right.

Until the cheating scandal comes out, I’m going to assume he’s a great coach.

TBD if he’s a developer of talent.

If ND would've made the playoffs last season and faced IU I still think ND would've beat IU last year.

I don't doubt for a second that ND could have beat IU last year. Ole Miss, UGA and Oregon would have been a tougher out IMO than Indiana.

Pretty sure I saw projected spreads on CFP selection day and ND was favored over everyone except one team and it wasn't Indiana... Oregon maybe?

I agree. I think our defense gives Mendoza fits, and I don't think their defense was that much better than when we faced them in the playoffs the previous year.

Stop expecting people on an ND site to be IU homers. Claiming Nick Saban and Urban Meyer couldn't do it is the height of homerism. Thinking URBAN MEYER of all shady ass opportunists couldn't pull it off with $40 mil in NIL and an open transfer portal is the height of homerism.
That IU team last year was not a $40 million roster, not even close, maybe half that. Neither Saban nor Meyer did what Cignetti did and they were at schools that were paying kids when it wasn't even legal giving them an even greater advantage than Cignetti had which wasn't even that great as his team wasn't even in the top 10 of NIL rosters.

You guys shouldn't even bother anymore.

The sour grapes and straight up jealousy from many on the board here is insane.

Maybe they liked it it better when Alabama was prison sexing Notre Dame in the playoff and championship game instead of Indiana doing it to Alabama with a roster that Saban and Meyer would go 8-4 with.

Go to the Indiana message board, they love Cignetti there! You can also be negative about ND and people will love that too there! Double win for you.

It's not really knowable. Saban was good but not invincible at Sparty and LSU, even with the natty.

I dunno...we played Sparty every year from 1970-1994 and in that time Sparty only won 3 games. When the series resumed in '97 Saban was Sparty's HC and of course he wasn't a huge household name then, but he won 3 straight before jumping ship and he had them rolling so well his replacement won 2 more before we finally ended the losing streak.

I spent my high school and half my college years watching us lose to Sparty, so I remember where I was when Battle caught the pass from backup QB Dillingham to put us up late. I was at work, watching the game on an 8" TV and screaming my head off while everyone looked at me like I was nuts.

That’s great, because we know that Nick Saban took over an Alabama program that needed to be recovered. What did he do? In year 3 he won the NC. That is without being able to bring in the same volume and type of transfers Cig did. We’re also talking about the greatest coach of all time.

Cig is great no doubt, but Urban Meyer and Nick Saban are on a completely different level.

I think people forget how bad Alabama was the fifteen years prior to Saban. That program was a dumpster fire and got especially bad under Mike Shula.

That had nothing to do with Alabama itself. They hired shitty coaches. I think ND fans could relate. No one said Saban wasn’t a good coach, but he never won anything accept in the SEC at 2 of the most notorious schools for paying players when it wasn’t legal.

Urban Meyer chose Florida over ND because he was scared of the challenge. He filled half his Florida teams with criminals in order to win. No one knows shit on who would be a better coach right now but the fact is both Urban and Saban chose the easiest paths to a championship. You can not say that about Cigneti no matter what you think of IUs schedule. No one picking IU before 2024 was choosing the easy path.

When did we start talking about Rockne?
