The guy is 27-2 at Indiana, am I the only one who thinks he's a damn good coach??
No, you are not. I don't like him, but I'm not going to deny the obvious. They just had their two best football seasons ever there. They have been a basketball school doormat schedule them for homecoming football program for just about ever. Last loss they took was to the Fighting Freemans. I hope ND gets another crack at them again. Soon.

They're softening their schedule. Makes total sense. They couldn't win football games for love or money not all that long ago regardless of who they were playing. The nobility of opening with Wisconsin, Miami, Texas A&M, Florida State, Ohio State, etc. is truly lost on me. To each their own.

He called out the SEC. It was glorious as far as I'm concerned. Fuck those guys.

Fuck those guys but also fuck the Big 10. I don’t feel better about a corrupt cartel trying to undermine the sport because they live near me. And I can’t chastise the slimey behavior many SEC programs tolerate while looking past the recent track record of OSU, Michigan, PSU etc.

I don't particularly care for any of the conferences, and thankfully there are only four now instead of five.

The biggest loudmouth in the room for 2 decades has been the schmores schnapps guzzling people to the south. Fuck 'em.

When the time comes, fuck Cignetti too, but until that day actually comes everyone should recall who the last team to beat him was. The North Remembers.

With Mark Cuban money and the transfer portal? Yes. Yes, they could. Except Dabo. Marcus already damn near did it.

The Indiana Hoosiers are now the only Power-4 program with zero future Power-4 Out of Conference games scheduled. Their opponents from outside the B1G in the coming years include such teams as North Texas, Howard, UMass, Kennesaw St, Indiana St, Austin Peay, Ball State, Eastern Illinois, and Delaware.

Ha!. The Cancellor-in-Chief.

I'm absolutely not surprised that we announced picking up SC the same day as IU dropping us. It's been rumored they'd do this for at least 6 months. And like when SC negotations were dragging we had BYU ready to go, I expect the admin is already working on the same thing for when Texas drops us.

Yes because everybody was so hot for those JMU transfers. They wouldn't have even been on Sabans radar.

Saban, like the rest of the SEC, had 'Cuban money' flowing into the program 15 years prior to NIL. Once the Big Ten could pay players like Saban could, he got out of dodge. Greatest ever 😆

Some of you guys are ridiculous. Cig made a dog talk and your critiquing him because the dog is talking like a 5 year old.

This guy gets it. I’ve been fortunate enough to have experienced NC’s going back to the one in ‘66. It doesn’t mean I am craving another one any less than anyone else, but I can’t help but think there’s some jealousy and bitterness since everyone including me thought our Irish would get one before IU.

And I think you're putting too much emphasis on the fact that it's IU. I'd hate any team that won a natty. Guarantee I'll hate the team that wins the year after we win our next one. But that's all incidental and has nothing to do with the idea that Cig is a scheduling bitch or that I'm not going to blow the guy because he talked up the B1G at the B1G media days.

Stop expecting people on an ND site to be IU homers. Claiming Nick Saban and Urban Meyer couldn't do it is the height of homerism. Thinking URBAN MEYER of all shady ass opportunists couldn't pull it off with $40 mil in NIL and an open transfer portal is the height of homerism.

There is something to it being IU, even if that is subconsciously. It's the state school of the state Notre Dame resides in. They've been shit forever and suddenly they go unbeaten to a championship in the head coach's second year one year after ND got to the final game and lost it. I think it sucks. I'd have rather seen Miami win, full disclosure.

If it were Bielema doing this at Illinois or if it had been Stoops at Kentucky, I think ND fans might be less inclined to downplay the accomplishment. Only natural. Indiana wasn't really an underdog story I could get on board with, but they got it done. It was a wake up call for me as a college football fan. This isn't the game as we once knew it not long ago.

Cignetti is navigating this era by using scheduling, NIL and The Portal to his advantage. I hope they get beat, but I'm not going to sit here and criticize their methods. I'm absolutely hoping for another run in with Cignetti and IU in the playoffs. Soon.

I think if it was freshly crowned Georgia who had just canceled a series with us and who didn't have a P4 non-con scheduled for the next five years, Kirby Smart would be called a coward on here just as much as Cig. It doesn't have to be some mass psychological damage.

Maybe, but I don't think so. As Jiggafini mentioned, it's a state school in Indiana, so this seems to hit closer to home with everyone. Particularly since they have historically been the worst in CFB and Cignetti opened with his "Google Me" comment. I don't think there would be this much discussion if it had been Rice or New Mexico St.

I'm not really bent about a couple of games being cancelled that were going to be played 4-5 years from now. I don't really care a great deal that ND isn't going to play SC this year, and I really don't care that they're scheduling them again. The objective is a championship. Play who you play, win one, let the haters cry more about not being in a conference and have an easy schedule. Not my juice to marinate in.

The attitude toward Cignetti and IU on this board has had a sour grapes type of tone before the news yesterday. I get it and I understand it to an extent. I was openly hoping IU would lose to Penn State in Happy Valley, which is an indication of moderate dislike at the very least. They were unbeaten champions. I want to make it through this week before I start concerning myself with the 2030 schedule.

Cig is the ultimate example of don’t hate the player, hate the game. Indiana in 24 played one good team during the season and got killed. Yet they were 11-1 so they were gifted a playoff spot. Until the committee looks under the hood more than a record, you really can’t blame anyone for this nonsense but the committee.

Anyone doubt for 1 second that Notre Dame would’ve been in the playoff last season if their week 2 opponent was Indiana St instead of Texas A and M?

Do you live in Indiana? That seems to be a dividing line among ND fans. I lived in SB when I was at ND obviously but otherwise have not lived there. I definitely preferred IU beat Miami. I don't care that it's IU, although I think the fact that a historic 'basketball school' won a championship in football is noteworthy. But I don't care any more than if it had been Kentucky or Illinois or whatever. They aren't a rival of ours, so who cares?

We also benefit at times from the "they beat the teams they played" argument, so I'm not inclined to throw stones at a Big Ten team that finishes 11-1, even if they played no one OOC. IU deserved a playoff spot in 2024, and then got exposed as not ready when they got there. Both can be true. To Cignetti's credit, they were ready the following season.

But big picture Cignetti's scheduling strategy is deeply cynical and bad for the sport. Other schools are seeing what IU has been able to do the last couple of seasons and following suit. It's ruining one of the most fun parts of the regular season - epic interconference games - and is making it increasingly hard for us to schedule good opponents. The fact that he's doing this while posing as this tough-talking blowhard doesnt' help.

(for the record I haven't lived in Indiana in 25 years and give no fucks about IU one way or the other)

I mean he’s an incredibly unlikeable guy so I wouldn’t attribute it to sour grapes. He's very arrogant and outspoken about the splinters in others’ eyes while not seeing the plank in his own. He does slippery little maneuvers like playing it safe until he can score garbage time points to hide a playoff blowout. No reason to treat him differently than the other a-hole coaches (e.g. Kiffin, Narduzzi, Riley, Meyer).

Agreed.

Doesn't change what he has done and where it rates in that program's history. It can all be true at the same time.

Well said. Like I said on the last page, I'll never understand the niche group of ND fans who have some sort of affiliation with IU and expect the rest of us to give a rats ass about that program.

I live in Michigan. I don't know a single spartan or skunkbear who would pull for the other because they "live" there. I wasn't actively rooting for Western Michigan to win a hockey title because they are only 3 hours away. I have no connection to that program, they are nothing to me like IU was nothing to me.

Kurt, along with the rest of his conference and the SEC, are ruining September football. Nothing to defend there. He is a good coach. And a gigantic coward.

Most posters seem to think he's a great coach. What they're criticizing is his willingness to manipulate IU's schedule to maximize its playoff chances.

We just don't spend our time gargling his balls like you do, so you interpret even the mildest criticism as an attack on the guy's entire existence.
