Who thinks we burn some more redshirts tomorrow?
I hope we do.
Who thinks we burn some more redshirts tomorrow?
Who were you thinking?
I think honestly I could see BK sitting Manti for maybe a quarter. His actions tonight were horrible he didn't even look like he was a part of the team from where he was standing. I understand he's upset, but come on don't sulk in public.
Give me a break.
I have one name to say that would have stopped this all this from happening if he was a ND player: TEBOW. Remember what happened when Florida lost to a lesser team. He stepped to the mike and told everyone listening that he would never let this happen again and Florida never lost again. ND just got their butts kicked by their so-called biggest rival and then were called out by them for quitting and you could hear a bird chirp. Not one Senior or Junior stepped up like a TEBOW. This was a moment for a Te'o or Smith or KLM and no one showed the leadership. Kelly had to cover for everyone and if a leader came forward I assure you that Kelly would not have had to make those comments.

Please forgive them father for they know not what they do... They may have good intentions - but 222 posts in and it is still the same BS... can we please turn the focus on Navy?

Also, any way to change a handle on here? Lost a ton of respect for Manti as a player and person in the past 2 days. Some of it is immaturity, but as somebody else noted he has shown a different side of himself all year to some degree and Im not entirely impressed.
You don't motivate a team by calling them out to the media and creating a massive rift between "your guys" and acting like those you inherited are some secondhand trash.
I'm a pretty big BK fan, but that was embarrassing. If Lane Kiffin or any coach for that matter had pulled that, everyone would be up in arms.
As for those who say he's their coach, not their friend, very true. To play for a coach he doesn't have to be your friend, but he needs your respect. Comments like these destroy respect.
Whenever you get someone as grounded and thoughtful as Manti to declare he's playing for his upperclassmen and thats it, there's an issue. If I'm a coach, I'd like my players to be playing for me, the team/school, or at least all the players.
In what way? Not arguing, really just curious as to what you or others have seen
1. I know there is a lot of opinions on what happened yesterday with Kelly's comments from the coaching staff/players/fanbase but here is the thing...........its 100% truth.
2. What Kelly said in the moment was not as bad as being reported/overreactions of the players. But here is something that think about.
3. "You can see the players that I recruited here. You know who they are. We’ve had one class of recruiting kids that I’ve had my hand on. The other guys here are coming along. But it’s a process, it can’t happen overnight. They’re getting there. They’re making good progress. We’re 4-3, very easily could be a lot better than that. If we take care of the ball when it’s 17-10 on the one-yard line, who knows what happens. I don’t want to paint a picture that we’re so far away that we can’t get to them, but it’s a process, we keep banging them every day. It’s the old cliche, keep banging the sledgehammer against the wall and you don’t see the cracks and then one day it cracks down. We’re still banging at it."
" It’s more about how I want things done. How I want this team to play. I haven’t been able to get it the way I want them to play. So for me, if they’re going to do all the things the right way and we’re just getting beat because the other teams are better, I’ll be OK with that. But that’s not the case right now. I’m not very happy about the way we handle the little things. I don’t want to get into too much detail."
4. That is what Kelly said, courtesy of IrishIllustrated's transcript. If you are a member there, go watch the video of him saying it.
5. For certain players to take it as they took it...that says exactly what Kelly was pointing out dont you think? Adversity/spotlight/expectations/etc are higher than most at ND. With him saying what he said, then getting the response from the players in the way he did.....its just showed the fanbase what he is really working with. A comment made and the response. Its black and white.
6. Self Entitlement. As much as I liked Coach Weis as ND's coach and as a person...he brought Self Entitlement into ND. It needs to leave. Whether it means we lose a player(s) that would have been asked for a 5th year or have upperclassmen sulk the last 5 games of the year...I will bet the house that self entitlement will be out of the program next season. Kelly has the choice to ask guys back, and if they aren't right you can bet your *** he won't. They are not entitled to a 5th, and they aren't owed anything by ND.
7. Kelly has won at EVERY school he has been to. He has built a dynasty before. I am going to ride with him over a 20 year old superstar that is making a 3-4 year stop for football.
8. And to be honest. You can tell a difference in the players Kelly has brought in. Ishaq Williams. The young man is totally thrown into a different culture than what he has experienced the last 18 years of his life. He is homesick, not getting a ton of PT, and had the opportunity to go home. But he stayed to learn his position. To get better. Stephon Tuitt. He tracked down Brian Hardin over the summer to open up the film room on a Friday night. Kona/Hounshell sacrificed potiential redshirts for all they knew 1 game. GA3 bringing an element that hasnt been at ND for years on sp teams. Collinsworth...switching positions. Bringing it all on SpTeams. Louis Nix. Sure he was recruited by Weis and committed when we didnt have a coach. But he has bought 110% into Kelly. Got his weight down, and is committed to keeping it down. Committed to ND and not transferring after last year. Tee Shepard...does anything and everything ND tells him to do just so he can get here in January. I mean the kid sacrificed his senior season of high school football to come to ND. Greenberry...pleaded with ND for an offer. Worked his *** off over the summer to prove that he was worth the offer. Baratti- hasnt played safety since his early high school days, wanted to play QB in college, yet he will be making a move he more than likely doesnt want to entirely make when he gets to ND.
9. ND will be fine. There are going to bumps, but its going to show where this team is going on how they respond. Saturday is a huge game for many reasons.
ps. attacking them on twitter/facebook isnt going to make yourself or the players feel any better. to those that have you have written absolutely ridiculous things that are uncalled for.
I couldn't agree more. Do the majority of players even respect Brian Kelly any longer? This is all very embarrassing.
The more I've thought about the first seven games, the only person I've seen get pissed off is Kelly. Why is that? Shouldn't we see a player upset about something?
I think that's what Kelly is trying to get across.
And I'm still trying to figure out why anybody got butthurt by what Kelly said...

Exactly. You have to have absolutely no stones or pride to get so "hurt" by those comments to make the comments they did. Shame. I'm praying it was just a moment of weakness from them and not what they deep down believe...
