JPham's Apology Thread

As a current student with connections to team personnel, I have been sharing information in the last couple of weeks. While the information I was given was kept vague and conservatively worded, I reported them anyway and added my own speculation.

For those who read my posts, especially the Varsity Members who read through my weekly posts, I am equally as disappointed that today did not work out as I was told and for that I apologize.

Recruiting has become such a volatile process. And I assure you that the staff and personnel are equally as disappointed and surprised as the rest of us are. In the state that recruiting is in now, it has become difficult to even be sure when you are told straight from the horse's mouth, not to mention predict and speculate.

I will continue to post my insight and inside information. But with how 'solid' verbal commitments under these rules of recruiting, we should all take what we hear for whatever it's worth.

No worries JP. While I was hoping for good things, any level headed person knew not to get their hopes up because of the way the recruiting world works today.

Keep at it, it's much better to hear something with some truth, than nothing about the whole truth. Especially, when it deals with recruiting!

Don't worry about it. No amount of info or speculation can make sense of recruiting.

Don't sweat it. You were simply trying to help others without access to that information. It isn't like you simply tried to incite folks, like some of the wankers around here. Enjoy the friendships you are making at school, do well in the classroom and stay positive.

Contrary to the tone of posts on ND boards today this isn't a new phenomena.

  • Holtz exploded with "The 40 Year Mistake" over Scott Bentley.
  • Davie got Leaked.
  • Willingham got Bookered.
  • Weis was Littled
And there have been many others surprises (or lack of them) over the years.

Those were head coaches with direct contact with the individuals not someone interpeting second hand or third hand information (and noting it as such).

For the most part, we all are grown men and I am sure that we have all had something worse than this happen to us. JP, you were just saying it like you heard it. ND still finished with a great class. Let's all move on to 08 (looks good so far) JP, keep up the good work!

Thanks for your insight, Jason. It's clear that you weren't the only one who was disappointed, misled and frustrated by developments. Even Coach Weis had promised "some surprises" today. Let's be thankful for the young men who HAVE followed through with their commitment and look forward to the Class of 2008. Hopefully, you can offer some inside information on what should be an exciting and important season of recruiting for the 'Fighting Irish.'

I personally think that you had absolutely no leads, but that you were saying these things to get everyone's hopes up to buy into the Varsity Club. In fact, when I saw your original post, I knew that is what you were doing, saw right into it, and didn't bite. I am not saying that you aren't an ND fan, and I think that you really did want a "Surprise" recruit on NSD, but you knew nothing credible. I do not blame anything that happened on NSD on you... It happens, but I just think that it was a cheap way to try and sell Varsity Club memberships. If that is truly not the case, i apologize, but I like to call it like I see it. You explicitly told people to buy into the Varsity Club if they wanted to know what the surprise recruits would be.

Excuse me Mr. First Post Ever, but it seems to me that you're not in the best position to make accusations like this ... you don't know Jason, don't know who he talked to, and didn't read any of his VC posts. If long-time posters and the folks who read what he wrote don't hold anything against him, neither should you.

I might add: everything we've heard since NSD has borne out the truth of the rumors Jason was talking about. C. Brown HAD been in touch with Tez, his HS coach WAS pushing him to look harder at ND ... it just wasn't enough.

In sum, and to quote another poster's signature, THINK BEFORE YOU POST.

Jason I appreciate all the hard work you provided and look forward to any insights you might have into next years class. As CW said "You win some and you lose some, but you have to try and get the best players you can" and you gave us the best info you had.

THANKS!

Since you're such a known quantity yourself, I'm sure you have alot of ground to stand on. Keep up all the good posts and opinion you have provided all along!

Explicit means that I clearly stated something. Point out what post it was where I explicitly asked people to purchase a membership. On the contrary, I heeded people to think about their decision because purchasing a membership isn't purchasing inside information. It's a donation to the site which people have put their hard work into with the perks of the members only forum, and a few other small quirks.

Keep in mind that Varsity Membership is ability to give something back to a site whose moderators have put time into restoring into a tolerable condition, with added tweaks, perks, and information.

And as pointed out, everything that I reported turned out to be right on with what the staff reported. Brown was pushing hard for Tez and we had more than one silent commitment that didn't end up following through. So if I had no leads, as you suggested, I just arbitrarily decided to create these rumors that ended up being true? Not likely.

I find it difficult to swallow the amount of hypocrisies in you suggesting that I reported things without any credibility when you, yourself, are calling me out on nothing more than intuition. Apparently, you don't know who I am, who my connections are, and how I received those connections. I'm a freshman at Notre Dame with friends on the team and on the staff with an uncle who is a priest ordained by the Holy Cross Congregation and is also an associate professor here. You think I don't know my way around campus?

I'm sorry that you saved your first post for something like this but perhaps you should think about your own credibility before you try to discredit somebody else's.
