Joe Thomas when he was doing his podcast with Andrew Hawkins had Johnny on for an episode and he was very apologetic to them you know basically saying he wasted a portion of Joe's HOF career by basically dicking around and not taking the job seriously. You'd think for balance they would have someone from the Browns either player or staff interviewed. These docs give way too much of the narrative to the individuals at the center, theres just no balance at all. It's like a Players' Tribune piece/PR and not real journalism or whatever

Dallas got Zack martin and Demarcus Lawrence in that draft with their first two picks. Let football people do football and let billionaires do billioning.

There were some ballers in that draft.

That Heisman ceremony had two guys sitting there who had Netflix Untold episodes done about them. May as well throw Collin Klein a bone for the trifecta.
2012 was a wild year

There is someone who should have been drafted first overall. Even then I couldn't believe it wasn't even considered. The Raiders fell for the Jamarcus hype when all he did was scorch a Rick Minter defense in a bowl game that was basically a home field for LSU.

Raiders and Browns, man.

I think they could have talked to more people but they squeezed it all into an hour. They gloss over the part where Johnny says he was going to spend all of his money and bought a gun to take his own life. Seems like they could have spent more time on that.

The story of them snatching the draft card from Jerry's hand is still one of my favorites. I remember Cowboy fans being legitimately upset they passed on him too.

Anyone with two brain cells knew this guy was a fraud and a bust. He had ZERO arm talent. He had something like 5 1st round draft picks on offense playing with him and played in a stat padding offense. He is one of the most unlikable players of all time IMO... zero redeeming qualities.
Go back to the very beginning of this thread for a reminder of how people saw him at the time. The kid was a ton of fun to watch. That's not a reason to draft someone - but he was larger than life and transfixed the college football world in a way no one had done since Tebow (not even Manti).

I wouldn't be surprised if winning the Heisman trophy as a sophomore (or redshirt freshman or whatever) will wind being an anchor around this kid's neck for the rest of his career. No place to go but down.
Will be very interesting to see how this season goes for him.

JFF has been on a lot of you tube golf channels. He's basically still a frat boy drinking, smoking weed, and golfing everyday.

The bastard is living my dream.

Could you imagine what the NIL would have been like for Manziel after A&M beat Alabama in that epic performance?

Probably not as good? LOL.

Seriously, he did better without any of it being above board. Point taken, though. He quite literally came out of nowhere. If this happens again, with the portal, who knows what happens besides a pay day.

Johnny's dream was being a Longhorn.

I will say that I didn't enjoy it that much, but the cut scene where they're essentially talking about how they cleaned the money by having his grandpa cut the checks made me LOL

It kills me he became the poster boy for the oppressed college athlete with the card signing bs or whatever it was,… this kid from wealth didn’t need any damn money but he risked the season all his teammates fought and worked for for a few extra bucks he didn’t even need and he’s somehow this victim??? Yeah, very few ever rubbed me wrong like this clown. I revert back to my previous ‘fuck him’ comment

He didn’t do too bad but geez, the next dude that comes along with that kind of hype will make crazy money.

Brian Bosworth's 30 for 30 had a lot of the same themes when it came to "Fuck the NCAA" bits Johnny Football has. Basically how dare somebody stop me making money off myself

The story that his family was super wealthy was actually cooked up by him and his friends to try and take the spotlight off of Manziel making the autograph money. His family certainly wasn’t poor but they weren’t oil money tycoons either like the media was lead to believe (and the media ran with that narrative as well). I don’t think he was a victim either, BTW……he did become a product of his own issues though.

Yup, "Grandpa's Oil Money" was just a cover story to explain how he had rich man's toys. It was all a lie.

That seems to be refuted from the guy that would have signed off on it.

Baylor offered him (Briles), Iowa State (Tom Herman) and Oregon (Mark Helfrich) at QB.

Rivals and 247 both list Stanford offers in his recruit profile. I can't figure that one out.

Similar to the Manti story about the dead GF. The media just ran with it and nobody was able to actually confirm it.

That part was pretty brazen to say the least, but the first thing I thought of was the Manti episode that no one even bothered to look into it further and the story just took off.

And Grandpa got no dialogue. They just show a clip of him chuckling. That was his role in the documentary.

I'm telling you, the Florida episode is going to be an absolute puff piece about their greatness. Urban, Tebow, the lot of them. They'll talk glowingly about Aaron Hernandez.

I'm curious to see how they glorify and justify BALCO.

Yup, if there is anything that I have learned this offseason from the documentaries and the ND beat: "Big J Journalism" literally will write whatever they are told. Very few fact-checkers in today's world. The rush to be first and exciting is more important than thorough and accurate.

No idea why this was made. A John Cooper Ohio State History of Epic Fails or Free Shoes University would have been much better.
