Driskell - openly not a Rudolph fan - saying everyone jumped the gun on this and that he doesn’t even interview until tomorrow is *big weird* considering Joe already dipped from VA Tech on Twitter and Brent Pry literally congratulated him on the ND job.
Reality is prolly something along the lines of he interviewed virtually already and is coming town to dot the i's and cross the t's in person. Just a guess. Either way, Driskell is probably just big mad they didn't do what he wanted.

Originally posted by Jamie at ISD: At Wisconsin in his last 3 classes, he signed 6 top 150 OL, 2 of which were 5 stars. That's the same amount of top 150 OL as ND in the same time frame and more 5 stars. If he can do it there, he'll definitely do it here.
The issue is those guy didn't pan out from what I understand. The OL culture recruits itself at ND so in that case coaching is much more important than recruiting.

ND elects to defer in Dublin. Navy scores on an 12-minute, 16-play drive.

ND’s first play to answer: PA fake to Estime, fake swing to Tyree, deep shot from Hartman to Merriweather… but Hartman is victim to a sack-fumble.

We’re firing Freeman for not taking the ball first against Navy.

We’re firing Golden and Washington for the DL being lost.

We’re firing Parker for not running the damn ball.

We’re firing Hartman for not changing the play and a lack of ball security.

We’re firing Rudolph for his OL being shit after one play.
This sounds familiar 🤔

5 of those 6 OL were from the 2020 and 2021 classes. In Rudolph's final season at Wisconsin, they would be freshmen or sophomores. That isn't exactly the point when guys are hitting their peak.

From what I can gather, Rudolph is well respected and is considered a good OL coach. Wisconsin had a pretty good run while he was there under Chryst and ultimately by the time it went off the rails for Chryst to get fired, Rudolph was already gone to Virginia Tech. There isn't a single guy out there that doesn't have some minor question mark or red flag around him. This guy isn't anything to be remotely concerned about until he shows us otherwise. Marcus Freeman wants to run the ball. Rudolph has coached OL that were primarily existing to do just that.
Where I am slightly concerned is most of the OL they signed at Wisconsin while he was there were from Wisconsin. A couple from Minnesota. In 2019 he got a five star from Michigan and the Tippmann kid from Indiana. He's going to have to go national now and I think he'll be able to do that. Wisconsin OL Culture kind of sold itself too. Most of those kids were bred to play OL and go to Madison. The majority of them do and did so when Rudolph was coaching there. He didn't seem to lose too many.

This is a good hire on paper. He's 50 years old and brings some good experience to the staff.

He’ll be used to coaching WI farm boys like Billy Schrauth.

This isn't a Jeff Quinn hire.... The II pod even referenced all the tennesse beat thinking Hiestand was a bum.
I'd venture it'll work out alright. Heck, the guy has a couple potential all Americans starting and probably a couple more with AA potential in the wings. Find 2 guards outta Schrauth, spindler, kristofic and coogan. Or convince Fisher to bump inside for a year if Tosh Baker is ready.

Continue to develop them and recruit more and he'll be fine.

That is a real bad look for Loy tbqh
No, it's not. He had the story. He knew he had enough information to run with the story without jeopardizing anything. The Twitter rando had no idea what Loy knew or why he went ahead with it. He just assumed he knew which was really dumb since he was on the outside looking in, so Loy had every right to put him in his place - and he did it relatively politely.

Absolutely. He’s allowed to defend his credibility, and he was nicer about it than I was when I was a reporter.

Eric Hansen: Rocco Spindler will be a junior this spring and will compete for a starting job. I think his odds of being successful got a boost with Joe Rudolphcoming in, just based on being a fresh set of eyes and what Rudolph is looking for at those positions. I would not have predicted Spindler as a starter under Harry Hiestand in 2023. I think it's wide open now.

Literally everything I’ve heard from beat reporters on Spindler has been underwhelming. I think this is pure conjecture by Hansen and he is going off of recruiting rankings. People were saying Schrauth had already passed him last year. Would be very happy if it turned on for Spindler

Good news from Mr. Hansen, I'd like to see Rocco get some PT on the field this year. If there was a top 5 or 10 list of who has to have an important spring it would be Spindler.

Spindler is approaching now or never territory. I’d put him in the top 3 of that list.
