Consider the source. I would wait until something a lot more verifiable comes out before worrying.

That's what I thought when i put from FootballScoop, but still interesting to hear his name for it.

I think he is building up so much around Notre Dame, such as a legacy, that he will not move on. Think of the stadium changes, the hire of BK, the Irish Network, the playing in Ireland (and possibly China).

The thing is, Jack's job is unique in all of college sports in that he kind of is a commissioner already. So for that reason, it seems like it would be less of a promotion for him than for most other AD's out there.

Also, he really seems into not only making ND a national brand, but a global one. With the Big XII, that really isn't on the radar. They are probably the most regional of the BCS conferences and that job would be mostly maintenance - i.e. trying to keep the ship afloat.

Who knows though. Crazy **** seems to be happening at an increasingly frequent rate.

I dont want to see him go.

Me neither. And, on paper, it makes little sense. Why go be a stooge for Texas, which is all the "Big 12 Commissioner" is gonna be at this point, when you can run Notre Dame? On the other hand, he is tight with Texas people, right?

He is pals with the Texas AD. Many rumors over the last few years that ND and Texas might throw in together somehow if the B12 collapsed. Lots of similarities between the two. I don't want him to leave, but could be advantageous to ND down the road. It would be a very good thing for Texas IMO>

Irish AD Swarbrick can move mountains, would move Big 12 too - NCAA Football - CBSSports.com

"I think he'd be fabulous," Knapp reiterated from Austin, Texas, where Knapp and her husband reside. "[But] they missed their chance. The Big 12 would be a completely different deal these days if they had the courage and the presidents' conviction [not] to take somebody they know rather than take a risk."

Knapp is referring to September 2007 when Swarbrick was the runner-up for the Big 12 job that went to Beebe. Less than a year later Swarbrick was at his alma mater with what looks now to be a retirement job. He is 57 and happy. Notre Dame athletics -- aside from football -- are mostly thriving.

"I don't know if the final chapter has been written on that at Notre Dame," said David Frick, a former law firm partner with Swarbrick. "Jack has developed a vision of how to play in the elite world of college athletics, yet maintained ties to the university."
