Happens everywhere.

I agree that attrition is everywhere. But Lynch, Neal, Kiel, and Vanderdoes are arguable 4 of the top 5 recruits (the other being Jaylon IMO) of the past 3 cycles. Not every program loses that at the top.

I don't consider Kiel a loss like those other guys. Kiel couldn't win the starting job and chose to find a place where he could easily (and didn't find many options available to him). I don't consider that a major loss, but that's just me.

This needs a list to juxtapose of all of the recruits Kelly and Co have "taken" from other programs, I'll start:

TJ Jones (Stanford)
Stephon Tuitt (Georgia Tech)
Max Redfield (USC)
Amir Carlisle (USC)
Will Fuller (Penn State)

Durham Smythe (Texas)

Come on. Fuller didn't want to get Sanduskyed and Carlisle was never going to sniff the field.

And Tuitt and Redfield are the only 5 star guys outta that list...

I'd like Rammer and/or T-Town to come in here and name all the players they lost since Saban took over or at least since BK took over ND.

Exactly. It's not a buncha Heggie's leaving...it's game changers like Vanderdoes, Lynch, Neal...etc

The difference is that I would be willing to bet that the large majority of their losses were due to kids getting expelled, arrested, or something like that. I may be wrong, but I can't remember that many examples of people just decommitting from Bama (they lost a few to Auburn a few years ago).

Carlisle played as a true freshman for a team that always has a loaded backfield / a ton of depth. What are you smoking?

OK - so can we eliminate those off the original list that just couldn't cut it at ND?

I really do not understand the point of this.

Notre Dame is different !!!!!!!!

Is that emphatic enough for you?

Carlisle played as a freshman until he got injured...

Yes, feel free to delete all the people from that list that were arrested and/or expelled. Done? Okay.

No need to talk down to me.

Random thought: the fact that we lost Ty Isaac, who played a ta position of need last year, to our biggest rival on the other side of the country out of our own backyard is increasingly pathetic the more I think about it.

I may be wrong, but weren't we recruiting Isaac for defense last year? Also, we take people out of USC's backyard every year. Not really concerned with that.

Not really concerned long term with Hood's loss either considering what we have a RB. But, he was just a great player and it's a shame to lose ANOTHER 5 star recruit.

I didn't say those that were arrested or expelled. I said those that couldn't cut it at ND.

Sorry if you think I am talking down to you. I get really frustrated with this conversation.

Most all of us are fans of Notre Dame football because of what the University stands for. We love the fact that the players at Notre Dame are students that are also athletes not athletes that pretend to be students. We love that when our athletes are interviewed they present themslves and the university in a positive light and it is very rare that an athlete embarrasses themselves or the university on camera. Notre Dame is different. And I love it because of that. If that means there is a lot more drama when it comes to recruiting, then so be it.

Brian Kelly is doing a masterful job of attempting to bring the best football players in America, that are also capable of making the grade in the classroom, to Notre Dame. I want him to try and get as many 5 star players as possible. If a few of those 5 stars get to campus and decide it is not for them, then I can live with that. Notre Dame is back to being in the top ten conversations and it is a result of this attitude of attempting to get these amazing athletes.

I will suffer through these losses from time to time as punishment for loving this team.

He was never really coming here though. He was all USC all along.

No school is exempt from Top 100 Rivals players "flipping." Not even the great Saban. Two Bama decommits that come to mind are Artie Burns (4*) and Keenan Allen (5*). Burns ended up at Miami and Allen went to Cal.

edit: A couple of more: Josh McNeil (4*) and Justin Thomas (5*).

Here is a good article written by Andy Staples at SI.com on the whole subject. It is a pretty good read.

We don't know for sure, but there were strong indications that Shepard, Greenberry and Muhammad simply didn't qualify academically. And Wright was a similar situation, in that he got expelled from school, so ND stopped recruiting him. You could argue that Kelly's staff shouldn't have recruited these kids from the get-go, but Kelly didn't "lose" them.

Lynch's transfer hurt, but he moved home to get married despite seemingly every authority figure in his life pleading with him to stick it out at ND. It won't be the last time we lose a star recruit to a skirt.

Darby's an Olympic sprinter and ND simply couldn't compete with FSU in that regard.

We still don't know what happened with Neal. I'm not buying the cover story.

Like Ironman, I don't consider Kiel much of a loss. He apparently felt like he couldn't compete with our other QBs; who are we to argue with him?

And there was all sorts of shady bullsh!t with Vanderdoes. If you want to be mad at someone about it, Jim Mora is at least as deserving of your ire as Kelly.

This needs a list to juxtapose of all of the recruits Kelly and Co have "taken" from other programs, I'll start:

TJ Jones (Stanford)
Stephon Tuitt (Georgia Tech)
Max Redfield (USC)
Amir Carlisle (USC)
Will Fuller (Penn State)
Durham Smythe (Texas)
Doug Randolph (Stanford)

Everett Golson (UNC)
Gunner Kiel (LSU)

another classic. irishpat's world is his and his alone, and bears no relationship to the actual world in which the rest of us live.

Behold the Angry Notre Dame 5 Star Recruit Hating God

airbhg.0_standard_352.0.jpg

In Brian Kelly's tenure alone here is the list of 5 star recruits they have lost:
-Aaron Lynch
-Ronald Darby
-Tee Shepard
-Yuri Wright
-Deontay Greenberry
-Gunner Kiel
-Davonte Neal
-Eddie Vanderdoes
-Alex Anzalone
-Alquadin Muhammad

and finally...
-Elijah Hood

I may have even missed some.

That is probably more 5 star recruits than TyWilly and Chuck Weis got put together...

But we didn't close the deal {/sad face}

I'm going to go bury my face into a bowl of scotch... kay... thx, bye...

It's better that way. The denial around here is better left in this "actual" world. You can have it. LOL
