Just saw that the Colts are the only team with an older base helmet design than my Brownies... pretty cool little factoid.
On Luck, I think it actually could have been worse. He could have hung on without getting right for the next five years, consistently missed time or been just good enough to make the front office think they are just his health away from a title, pass on Tua, Lawrence and other studs they now have a plausible chance at etc... Then when they realize it's time to move on the young core they have now will be breaking up anyway... at least now they can move while all that young talent is locked up.

You have a point but it is pro football. It's not engineering.
And let's be clear, he doesn't play for anybody's pleasure. He plays for more than 100 million dollars to lead his team mates.
You're right, he has the right to do this. He should have done it in March or April. Not two weeks before the season. That is the problem that people are having with this.
Certainly fans can get so vested in a team that a foundational player leaving can be almost a personal affront. The booing is probably not representative of the entire fanbase. A different story if the Colts had not finished so well last year - say 8-8, third in the division and out of the playoffs - and with such anticipation for this year's team in part because of the year Luck had. Colts almost had Elway once, too. Good thing that the Colts have so much cap room not only to assume contracts in a trade but also to cover the dead money they incur with Luck's contract. You have to wonder if Luck said something at the end of the year.

You might be right. It would be nice to not have to always worry about someone getting injured again or being 'right between the ears' as Irsay said.
I like Jacoby Brissett but everyone seems to think that Chad Kelly has more upside and has been looking great.

Heard on Dan Patrick this morning that about two weeks ago, Manning and Tony Dungy were at the Colts training camp. Both talked to Luck and watched him practice "like a mad man". Neither saw any physical or mental indication that he was hurting or not mentally into it.
I'm really curious as to what may have transpired over these last two weeks.

I heard it too, Dungy seemed to go two ways at once though and said in the very next breath that this definitely wasn't a quick decision that Luck made on the fly so who knows... my guess is Luck battled this for a couple years now and just got worn out doing so.

I'm somewhat optimistic about Brissett. This is his second year in Reich's system and his first starting in this system. He's taken almost all of the snaps in camp. Plus this team is much better all around (especially O-line) than the team he QB'd when Luck was out with the shoulder. The coaching staff is much better than Pagano's.
Q's comments about Brissett......
“Talking off the field, he’s a hard worker, he’s in the building, and he’ll be in the weight room one-on-one focused, focused on doing things specific to his craft,” Nelson says. “And I really respect and appreciate that out of a teammate, and it’s very important at the quarterback position that you got a guy like that. I’m happy about that. And then on the field, he sounds pretty composed in the huddle. There’s a little bit of a confidence when he’s in, just because of how well he calls a play, the clarity. He can make plays out there, make throws, escape pressure, so yeah, we’ve seen a lot out of him. And we’re just ready to go.”

Good for Luck acknowledging that he can't stay healthy and he doesn't like being that way. You can't blame him for that. Hopefully he was a true Stanford grad and knew how to manage his money and will be set up for life.
I don't know all the facts but i am not sure why the Colts agreed to pay him 25 million that they didn't have too. That's stupid business. The timing from the little bit i read some could say is suspect and leaves the
Colts hanging for this season. But at the same time maybe they will suck again to pick up the higher draft pick.

JMV and Dakich were saying that Luck wanted to go to Hawaii for three months and Ballard told him to pound sand.
Also Luck suffered two of injuries snowboarding in the off-season. And then lied about it to team doctors

I read that it keeps the door open if he changes his mind and wants to come back. By him keeping the money, the Colts would have first rights to re-signing him instead of him just becoming an unrestricted free agent, or something to that effect.

Brissett is in his contract year, earning $2 mill, which puts him 23rd on the Colts' salary ranking. That's just ahead of recent draftees Darius Leonard, Braden Smith, Quincy Wilson, and less than their K and P and a couple of second string Gs. Some players' reactions to the negative comments and fans booing Luck or criticizing his decision is coming out. Whether that affects FA QBs' decisions in 2020 will be interesting.

I think this sums up the situation about the whole thing with the retirement and the fans in a pretty reasonable manner.
I guess this will end up being the best for all parties and it's time to roll with who we got. If Brissett doesn't have it, at least we have the draft capital to move up in next year's draft.

They would've been better signing Kizer. He's already proven he can help a team earn the first draft pick when he's the starter. Then they can have their pick.

JB will be the starter until he's hurt or is well below 500.
Even if Hoyer is signed, I could see Kelly getting the nod over Hoyer.
I would have loved to grab DK, but I think the Colts were perhaps looking for a veteran who's been around to perhaps mentor (film, prep, etc) JB and CK. Adding Kizer to unproven QB room really doesn't help much.
