I mean, he’s an upgrade, but he’s really just a stop gap between Brissett and whoever the QB of the future is.

I really thought they’d use the first round pick to get a QB. I’m happy about the trade they made but now, even with Rivers, there is still a big question mark about QB for the future.

I did as well. What this tells me is Ballard has identified a guy in this years draft he thinks he can still get either in the 2nd round or by trading both 2nd round picks to move up. Or, he's looking at next years draft as the best option for a QB.

Local radio this morning said Ballard is intrigued by Jalen Hurts and the skill set he brings to an offense. I personally don't think he is the QB of the future but I also thought Lamar Jackson wasn't going to be that good in the league either.

I'm in the exact same place on Hurts. I think Hurts may be a better passer at this stage, and definitely isn't the athlete LJ is.... But he was very productive in that offense and took a nice step forward with the switch. Still would prefer others.

Love - Many mocks have him dropping to later round to early 2nd. Colts could use 34+44 to get back into the middle of the 1st if they wanted.

Gordon - raw but intriguing. Better numbers than his two big name predecessors in the same offense. Might be a guy you take a shot at in the 3rd or later.

I’m actually excited about Phillip’s arrival. I think he and Reich will work well together. Just give him time to throw, which this OL will do.

I am too. Funny, I watched some film on him today from last season. As I'm finishing up, either NFL.com or ESPN start talking about him/Colts, and mention that Ballard and Reich went through the entire year of film, and have no concerns about his ability to throw, or abilities in general based on the film.

If we are going for a second tier guy, I like Eason.

My order of all the rooks.
1 Burrow
2 Tua (big concerns though with injury)
3A Herbert
3B Love
4 Gordon
5A Eason
5B Hurts

Not interested at all with the others.

Heard on CBS Sports radio that Rivers stayed in SD and was commuting three hours one way everyday. Even with a driver that had to wear on his performance.

Can TY stay healthy? If so, this O could score a lot.

Probably not. Any chance he gets traded or cut? He is in the last year of his contract, right? With all guaranteed money already paid... I am not sure how NFL contracts work... but he appears to have a CAP number of 14million, injury prone, 31 years old...

All true but I don’t think they trade or cut him. Maybe being in a contract year provides a little extra motivation to stay on the field.

Purely my opinion, but I think this is the last year for TY at Z unless he can stay healthy. Ballard and Reich talked early on that they would start Campbell out inside at slot, but would gradually work him outside (which has to mean Z because no way he's an X).

I kinda thought they would do that when they drafted Campbell, but would flip them (TY moving to slot) gradually as TY slowed. Now it might be just pure replacement if TY can't stay in the line up this year. I just hope Campbell doesn't get 4 unrelated and somewhat freak injuries again this year.

I think our biggest need by far as at X though, unless we bring back Funch. And even then, we still need the X of our future. I love Pascal, but he's limited and should be at best a 5th or 6th WR.

Hilton was hurt a lot last season, but he's been pretty durable up to then, so I'm giving him benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise.

I'd be more concerned about Campbell's injuries as he had three different injuries hernia, broken hand & broken foot. He only played in 7 games last year. IIRC Hilton's was a lingering ankle and he tried coming back too soon.

I'm more concerned about TY. He was banged up in 2018 too. Only missed 2.5 or 3.5 games, but was hobbled for several other games. Most were similar soft tissue injuries over the last two years IIRC, so that's concerning to me. I think perhaps his body is just getting older. He is said to be a quick healer though, but it didn't seem that way.

Campbell actually had 4 injuries last year going back to training camp (he missed most of it). They were all unrelated. I think it was a quad strain in addition to the ab, broken hand, and broken foot. The two breaks were kind of freak, so that really doesn't concern me.

The injury gods were just unkind to our WRs last year. Hoping they feel we are owed a bit of good luck this season.

i just read today that there were only 6 wr's 33 or older in league last year. TY being 31 means the end is near.

Colts re signed Clark (OT)
Haeg signed with Tampa

Not thrilled with Clark, and said to see Haeg go.

Oh man. A can of Pringles is better than Clark.

I'm still hoping we take an OT with one of first 3 picks. I know AC re-signed, but after AC and Smith, there is basically no one. I'd prefer not to wait until next year or the following when AC's contract is up.

We still should have pretty good options with 34, 44, and 75.

Four injuries all unrelated and not concerned? One break okay, but two breaks? Is it a sign he can't hold up to the punishment?

No doubt TY's days are numbered, but without a real threat to offset TY, he got doubled up a lot last year and took more punishment than he would have if we had a legit #2 to take off some of the coverage.

Let's hope the gods are kind and both stay healthy.

If Campbell had the same type of history pre-NFL, I'd be worried more. I don't lack concern, but some just seemed freak. I guess I'm just not ready to call him Mr. Glass yet lol.

We need an X more than anything IMO, so I'd hate to have injury issues at Z/slot with TY and Campbell again.

Xavier Rhodes...anyone know about this guy? I'm not real familiar with him but think he was a former All Pro. Good pick up, bad or meh?

Just read an article about him. Supposedly coverage performance tailed off last year, but was still top ten in tackles for CB's. Was playing man coverage in Minnesota, but will play mostly zone. We'll see how he adapts.

Colts also signed Sheldon Day to a one year contract.

Saw that...no place like home, right? Small world story, when I was working at Roche his mother was a vendor of mine at Community North hospital. Hearing tests were required prior to starting a job and she helped with scheduling those.

To add, a ton of injury in 2018 that carried over in 2019. Was a productive tackler in 2019, but horrible coverage ratings (bottom 5). PFF was very unkind. He's not a young pup anymore, so this one year deal is likely a means to show he's still got it, and perhaps get one more lucrative contract before he gets too old. It's a gamble, but if he can return to 2016 form, it'd be awesome. I think we still need to take a CB in the first 3 picks.

Disappointed in the start. Only caught the 4th on the tube, but Rivers looked like he had happy feet to me. The two INT's by Rivers were WTF moments.

Rivers is garbage and they lost to what many people predicted would be the worst team in the NFL. What an amazing start to the season.

Can't get into the redzone 5 or 6 times and only come away with 9 points.

Never understood the decision. People wanted to blame his OL in LA but now he's behind, arguably, the best OL in football and he's still throwing INT's. And, he turned the Colts into a pass happy offense? Not surprised.

Hopefully they stick a more run heavy gameplan going forward and it won't matter.
