Man, if Reich and company could rehabilitate Darnold or Trubisky, that would be huge. One is a free agent and the other could be had fairly cheap trade wise.

Stafford would be great but would take a lot of ammo. Ammo that you could probably trade up into the top 7 to draft someone with.

I think it will be Stafford before Darnold, Wentz or Trubisky. Ballard and Reich will want someone that is a strong locker room presence. Stafford fits that bill. Darnold might be my next choice. Is his up and down play a result of the crappy roster and trying to make some plays? Neither Wentz or Trubisky have a consistent record of performing well. I would love for the Colts to get Watson, but if Houston moves him, I can't see them trading him to a division rival.

Not at all lol. I was just chatting with gramps about this the other day, but at least Watson will be out of your division, at the very least.

Do y'all have the cap room for Dak?

It's my understanding we are still way under the cap. Prescott would be a good pickup.

I saw yesterday that the Colts have the 2nd most cap room in the league. There are resources there to make a move, just no one worth a shit to move to...

Colts need to move up for one of the top four QBs in the draft. With Jax, NYJ, probably Atlanta for Ryan's future replacement, and Carolina (8th) and NE (15th) the top five would be taken.

https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp

The trade chart would indicate that a first and second rounder would move the Colts in front of NE. A trade for a QB under contract as well as signing a '21 FA QB would be less prohibitive.

https://overthecap.com/free-agency/

How about trading for Matt Ryan? Atlanta needs to clear $30 mill in cap space (2nd worst). Ryan is under contract for three more years. He takes up $40 mill in cap space. He is 35. What draft picks would he be worth? The Colts first (21th) would be attractive to a rebuilding Falcons.

Matt Ryan, huh? IDK...you heard about him a long time ago when he was giving Brady a SB but since then he's kind of been MIA which I don't think is a good thing. Maybe it's just because I haven't watched an ATL game since that SB I guess... And he's still old AF.

Ryan probably has a few more good years, but I don't want them to be hunting for another QB in a few years.

Carolina is rumored to be interested in Watson, so the Panthers might be willing to trade if the Texans decide to trade Watson.

Carolina and SF were the ones that made sense to me. You'd think that Houston wants to ship him out of conference if at all possible and those teams pick fairly high as well (8 and 12 respectively).

If I were Watson I'd put a halt on this real quick. He wants a chance to compete, I think. Carolina isn't going to provide that.

I’m in.

Me too

What’s it going to take for the Colts to make this happen?

I think there's going to be decent comp for him. Denver, WA, Pats, Carolina, maybe NO.
I'd say at min a 1st rounder, but I'm guessing will end up a 1st + 2nd or 3rd.

Some of the teams could also toss in their QBs. Like WA or Denver.

You could even have team like NYJ, who already has a ton of draft capital, swap a guy like Darnold for Stafford.

This off season won't be dull for us, or the NFL in general.

It might take 2 first round picks I’m thinking along with maybe Jacoby or Eason.

IDK. 2 first rounders would be more than I'd pay. I think at most, a 1st this year, second next year, and Eason (for us). That's about my ceiling I think. Best thing going for Detroit, is the cheap nature of Stafford's remaining 2 years.

JB's a FA, and even if he weren't, doubt he'd be anything a team would look for in a trade. Eason might be cherry on top, but would likely factor as a 4th or 5th.

We really don’t have much of a choice if we want to compete next year. All the other QB options aren’t very good and I think Detroit knows that and will use it as leverage in negotiations.

Would have been nice to have had a preseason last year to see Eason a little bit. No one really knows what we have in him but I’d imagine Detroit will want a QB in return.

Their starting asking price is a first rounder and one day two pick.

There are a ton of QB options via the draft, trade, and FA. IMO, it's probably the best market in terms of pure options we've ever had.

I agree on the pre-season.

As far a Detroit is concerned, doubt they'd put a lot of stock in Eason. If they are going into a full rebuild, they could get a QB (Lance, Fields, Wilson) at 7, or even move up with what they'll get from Stafford.

They already put that out there?

IMO, they'll have 3-4 serious teams asking, but some of those teams will have a lot of other options too. Going to be interesting.

Yeah I saw that on Colts.com. It was a tweet from one of the NFL insiders. They may not get that though if his back isn't right. If it's ok and he can play 6 or 7 more years, I could see giving up a first and a third.

Thanks. It's what i mentioned earlier. Not sure i trust insider talk, but it's pretty obvious a 1st rounder to me, plus some misc pick or trade.

IMO, Ballard will set a ceiling, and work from there. Just so many storylines right now.

I was listening to some podcasts and reading articles on colts.com and a couple of reports were pretty interesting.

Supposedly Brady was all set to go to SF last year and they were in talks with the Colts to trade them Garoppolo. Shanahan overruled the move, leading Brady to go to Tampa Bay.

Also, it appears that the Colts told Rivers that they were going in another direction. Rivers then retired. He didn't have a press conference because he didn't want to lie about what actually happened. It is speculated that Ballard must feel confident in getting his target with that news.

Got a link to share about the bolded?

I got the gut feeling Ballard was the party that said no. All I'll say is he better deliver...

Listening on Clay Travis this morning. Irsay making overtures to Luck about coming back?

“He knows how much we’d love to have him be our quarterback, there’s just no question about that,” Irsay said of Luck on Wednesday, per the Indianapolis Star.

That decision, of course, is not up to Irsay. It’s up to Luck, who has provided no public hints that he’s thinking of a return to the NFL at 31 years old. And Irsay isn’t counting on it. He’s just stating the obvious while planting a seed.

Did Irsay here some rumors that Luck might be interested in returning or is this Irsay trying to plant a seed? Is having one of the best O-lines in the league anchored by a perennial All Pro be enough to entice him to return? He was running for his life his last two seasons.
