Hello and goodbye to all ND fans. My name is Mike, I'm 41, I live in NJ and I'm a lifelong Irish football fan, or should say "was". I just finished watching Michigan score 3 touchdowns in the last minutes of the game, turned off the tv, and said to myself "that's it". I can't take it anymore. I cant take having my hopes dashed game after game, year after year. I actually feel ill right now. As a result, I am leaving the ranks of the ND faithful. No more pilgrimages with my brothers to South Bend, no more game day parties, no more sweatshirts...nothing. I'm officially done. If I want to continue to root for a loser, I have one here right at home. GO RUTGERS!

I felt the same to a degree last night, but having this as your first post, no one will miss you here.
*update* today, I'm sober and realized it's just a game. Not worth worrying about in the larger scheme of things.

Don't act like that was a game to rally the troops. I agree with Mike. I'm much younger, but jeez...... How much more do we need to see? As much optimism as the program seems to generate, we always seem to shoot ourselves in the foot. I'm officially in a wait and see approach for the foreseeable future. I expect to lose unless proven otherwise. I hate that train of thought, but I guess I am at a loss for words.

I feel the exact same way honestly. I've seen us go 3-9 and I was content because it was expected. This was supposed to be the year they return to the BCS, the year Notre dame returns. Its all bull **** honestly. You could ask anyone who knows me, I've been the most loyal Notre dame fan you could imagine. I've stayed optimistic. I'm so damn disappointed in this team that I'm selling my Boston college tickets that were located right behind the marching band. I've absolutely had it. Don't want to offend anyone on the team of other members, but I've had it.

I'm 26,and have been an IRISH fan for more than 2 decades....it's sad that someone as old as yourself has that little amount of intelligence. If that's the true kind of fan that you are then good riddance and get the F*CK OUT!

I don't completely disagree with the OP, although I think he went too far. I am still going next week. I will still watch every week. I will still root for them. But will I continue to put so much emotion into 20 yr old kids? I dont know if I can or should anymore...

I'm not done. I will always bleed blue and gold. But I really think I need to stop watching for awhile. I pace and my heart races to no end so many times every season, and today was no exception. I don't scream or throw things anymore, because I have kids that look to dad for how to act. But you can definitely see my stress during our ritual cardiac 4th quarters.

I have 4 amazing kids, a great wife, and a job I love. I mildly worry that I'm going to have a clutcher before I'm 40 if I keep investing myself in ND football like I do. There are PLENTY of members of this site that take ND as (or more) seriously than I do, and I worry for each of you too.

It's important to me, but as Lou emphasizes regularly, GOD, FAMILY, Notre Dame. In that order. I think for my health and sanity, I just need to DVR the games and watch if we win. This team seems destined to play in dramatic finishes habitually. And for way too long, we've been on the wrong side of too many of those.

I don't think that makes me fair-weather, just sensible. Is that wrong?

Good, get the eff outta here and don't come back. Tonight is absolutely a low for me as a fan and the program as a whole, but if you leave b/c of it, then fine, you're not a fan anyway and no one here gives fu**. Bye.

Did you make a account just to say that? I am glad you have weeded yourself out of the fanbase.

Woah now NDinLa, I'm not leaving. I'm very pissed off, like yourself, and I'm simply disappointed. I've had time to calm down, still pissed, but I'm not just gonna leave. Yes my optimism is gone, but I'm still a fan. I just don't think I can take watching them lose like this much longer
