USA today Live Stream is pretty gnarly.

edit: 2 mph from being a Cat 5 when it made landfall, although that might get revised after post-storm review.

I still have power, which is a nice change of pace considering a strong fart brings down the power here.

We are supposed to leave for Destin in less than a week. Should we cancel due to the hurricane and Red Tide?

*we have no $$$ tied up in any reservations or anything, staying at a friends

Fox was/is broadcasting from Miramar Beach area, which is a little east of Destin. Not too much impact at all (at least by the look of things), so you should be safe. Being Destin was on the West side of the storm, the winds, etc. might have pushed the red tide out for at least a time.

Just saw some pics from Mexico Beach. Ugly stuff. Water up to roofs, roofs torn off.

That was exciting for a bit. No damage here, tho. No power either, but the genny works.

What is the usual duration of the power being out?

Tallahassee has a ton of trees, so, as IrishinFL stated, we lose power easily. That also means there are usually multiple causes for any given outage. For us just outside of town, this may take maybe a couple of days (maybe). The city kind of effed up the response to Hermine in 2016 and was without power for like a week in some areas. They won't make that same mistake twice.

There are 137k people in Leon county, 93k are without power right now.

Hope you FL guys made it through OK. Just now starting to really pick up wind here in Columbia, SC. Power outages have started on the west side of the city but where I am we still have power for now. Gonna be a wet couple of hours.

Incredibly sad pics coming out of Mexico Beach and other areas. Looks like a bomb went off. Houses are just totally gone. And then there's a house in the middle of all the empty slabs that look untouched. Prayers to all.

We got rain and a few tornadoes here in ATL. My area just rain and a little wind.

Still no power, but at least I've finally got to use cell phone data. We're good though, the generator has been great.

Good to hear. The city said the have enough partners to put a crew on every power circuit plus cover substation and other infrastructure repairs. Hopefully they get you squared away, soon.

Eta: I've got some cousins over in Lynn Haven. Storm ripped the roof off both of their houses, but they're otherwise ok.
