Hola Jose!

Hola Jose!

From NHC 5:00 am Update

the track guidance forecasts Jose to make an anticyclonic half-loop during the next 72 h. After that time, the confidence in the forecast decreases as the guidance diverges significantly. One the right side, the ECMWF and Canadian models forecast a turn toward the north and northeast, while on the left side the UKMET forecasts a westward motion towards the Bahamas. The GFS, HWRF, and the various consensus models are between these extremes in forecasting a turn toward the northwest and eventually north-northwest.

Yeah, it's going somewhere.

If anyone is an animal lover looking for an outside-the-box way to help in the wake of these storms, consider a contribution to The Center for Great Apes. My wife spent a lot of time volunteering there when we lived in Orlando and they do amazing work with chimpanzees and orangutans that they rescue from people trying to keep them as "pets." They got hit pretty bad by Irma and need all the help they can get.

My last minute plan to dodge Irma failed, but I survived and flew to Minneapolis Tuesday and am hanging with my son. (Which was the second goal.)

I'll find out next Thursday if my apartment and stuff survived.

Glad you're okay.

My son and family returned yesterday. His boat and truck survived, but he said there were a lot of boats on St Johns river damaged.

HURRICANE NATE

Interactive Forecast Graphics and Coastal Watches/Warnings
Hurricane Nate Advisory #011A
1:00 am CDT Sat Oct 07, 2017

It's been interesting watching the TV stations and newspapers in several state forecasting doom for their target audience. For the past 24 hours regardless of where landfall was forecast, the eventual track took Nate within 30 miles of my house.

Last night it was 5 miles West of my house, some hours later it was 30 miles East. Late this afternoon it was a 1/2 mile West of house. The current forecast track bisects my house.

Fortunately we're about 250 miles inland so Hurricane Nate will be Tropical Storm Nate by the time he arrives here. Unfortunately we typically get tornadoes. Spent the afternoon cleaning gutters (leaves are falling) and the creek in the back yard.

Wife & two youngest daughters, as well as my M-I-L, are in the middle of a 2-week trip to the Bahamas that they've had planned for a year. Not in any danger from the hurricanes, but the weather's been pretty crappy almost the entire time.
