You mean main export is oil, which you so lovingly slurp. Also we like your warm weather as well. We pay you like rented whores to use your facilities, **** all over the place and leave.

In America we call that "booking a hotel". (I guess everything sounds dirtier when translated from French Canadian.)

Please don't insult me. I am not French, nor do I live anywhere near Queerbec. Frankly you guys can have Quebec.

No but seriously there are tons of places that are just as objectively nice as the USA. I'm ok with patriotism when there are differing opinions of ideologies, because that's human nature, but don't act as though the rest of the world is some barbarian horde.

Please don't do that. I respect and enjoy your posts on this board too much. Please see my reference above to the world being gray. The putting of words into others mouths and strawman arguments is a problem that has bogged down our political system and poisoned the well.

Thanks

When Rick Reilly said ND was irrelevant, he meant Canada. Canada sits well as America's hat that no one notices.

Thata boy!

As crazy and arrogant as some on here label me for thinking this...I think they're crazy and debbie-downers for constantly bringing down people like myself with their constant 200 year old crap.

Listen, is there anywhere else in the world that we could all be having this kinda convo? Or anywhere in the world where you can make this kinda money? Or have this standard of living (40k a year is considered "poor")?

Where did I say that he "said" anything? Looks like you're putting words in my mouth. He's acting that way. There are plenty of places the average person makes 40K and "can have this conversation". He's acting like as soon as you cross any border you go into North Korea. You wanna talk about a strawman argument?

And then following up these factual questions, with this:

I didn't say that. I just said we're the best.

It's my belief. Arrogant or whatever. I can live with that. I've been called worse, by much worse people than my IE friends. LOL

Does no one else see the holes in the argument here?

Also my favorite.

"This place is the best" ... "I've lived here my entire life."

Where do all the millionaires live again?

If what you're shooting for is to be taken care of by the government (which is essentially what these charts show in this guys blog) then yeah..there are better places.

I want to live where success is. Not where I get the most protection from government.

Pretty Sure I heard they were moving out of the US, France, etc to avoid major tax hikes

Do you posters arguing with Pat disagree with his premise...or his conclusion? I guess in other words, do you find fault that he believes America is "the best," based off his argument(s), or simply that America is "the best?"

I disagree with the idea that any nation is "the best". It is both too subjective and there are too many different metrics. There is in my belief simply no way to declare a nation the best. Who has the best education? Healthcare? Economy? Army? Civil liberties? Economic equality? Safety from crime? Food? Music? Scenery? Women (or men)? Public transportation? Gun rights? Criminal justice system? Racial equality? Vacation time? Social services? Taxes? The list could be endless. Many categories are completely subjective and up to the individual to decide and even the more objective ones depend on your interpretation or perspective. Also depends on which metrics you value the most. I would also argue that there are certainly other nations that on the whole offer a better quality of life than America, but again this is based on my perspective and values.

If you are shooting to get shot I guess you could stay in the US.

Overly simplistic solutions for overly simplistic people.

Thanks. Fair enough.

But as for the bolded part, through Pat's own interpretation, perspective, and values, if he's come to the conclusion that the USA is the best, then I say more power to him. Jumping on him about it, therefore, shouldn't be done.

And for any of you that don't believe the USA is the best, I have one question: why are you here? If you believe another country (or countries) offer better opportunities and/or more resemble your value system, then why not move there? Obviously the USA isn't perfect and has problems to overcome, but I don't see much logic in staying somewhere inferior to other options. After all, I wouldn't stay with a company whose principles I disagree with or who offers me fewer opportunities than another job at a company; I wouldn't marry a girl that has less potential or is inferior to other girls out there. I understand that factors such as family can play a role in a decision like where to live, but honestly, I gotta wonder about somebody that won't put his money where his mouth is.

**Note-- not calling you out personally, Shawnee...just put this in here because I was commenting on your post.
