I'm only two episodes in, but agree they've rediscovered their S1 fastball.

Should we have a spoiler alert policy here since we're all going to go at different paces?

You are entitled to nothing!

Bwahahahahaha!

I'm through E7. This has officially passed The Soprano's for #1 in my book. The writing, the characters, the soundtrack.

Big screen quality.

Finished up last night. Episodes 3-10 were completely off the charts. The rest, just merely great.

My girl is already tired of me speaking like Francis. I even ordered my food last night in character. The guy who took my order? Francisco.

Only 362 more days till season 4!

Anyone else rewatch all of the old seasons before each season gets released again? Or am I just insane

That's what I'm thinking. Last season really broke his character down, I can't wait to see how he rebounds

I re-watch the previous season prior to the start of each new season. I just wrapped Season 3 for the second time last night. Hearing Frank and Claire really duke it out in Season 4. I LOVED the first season. That plot was so crazy. I've found myself enjoying the new seasons, just not as much as the first. Maybe Kate Mara had something to do with it. Maybe not. ;)

Not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread, but there are plenty of rumors that the Underwoods are based on the Clintons. Slightly more dramatized obviously.

Anybody else finish season 5 yet?

I need to air my grievances and see if anyone feels the same.

Worst season yet, still it's neck and neck with Billions for the best thing on tv.

Yes i did... and i probably agree with you

SEMI-SPOILERS

SEMI-SPOILERS

They absolutely ruined Conway. He was such a great character, could've been a good adversary win or lose... and instead, he goes all unstable, a complete departure from the character they built him to be, and then he just kind of disappears. That was disappointing. I know it was supposed to be a result of the toll an election can take on even a "perfect" candidate, combined with the nagging memories and questions about his Purple Heart, and to show that Frank and Claire, despite their issues, are stronger still. But, Conway's character deserved more

And the story line in general was butt. The drawn-out election controversy felt like a cop-out. Conway's campaign manager suddenly becoming the most powerful guy in Washington? And Frank hadn't heard of him or contended with him before this point? And then they just LET HIM IN? AFTER ALL THOSE YEARS OF BEING CAREFUL?

And Claire's instances of breaking the Fourth Wall felt forced, or at least the lines didn't deliver like Frank's monologues and one-offs do.

And I'm sure they felt the need to reduce Spacey's role, in favor of letting the star shine brighter on others to change things up and keep it fresh, but it didn't work. There wasn't enough Frank, IMO. I want to see Frank Underwood wrecking shit and making people sweat. That's why the first two seasons were so great. But in their effort to grow the show and make sure it doesn't get stale, they've sacrificed too much of what got them to the 5th season in the first place.

Perhaps they're setting up a grand showdown where Frank goes fully scorched-earth on the entire government from behind-the-scenes in season 6.

I read the spoilers (which I NEVER do) if that tells you how I feel about this season. I can't get excited about it. I'm struggling to finish it. I'm on episode 5 or 6. I'll get to the end eventually. This just isn't binge worthy for me like previous seasons.

Teaser dropped for Season 6, which premiers this fall (no specific date yet).

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7jLCCbv3dKI" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Not super interested, but I'll watch just to find out how they proceed. I know Kevin Spacey turned out to be a creep and you can't employ him after all the allegations from other cast and crew members, but Frank Underwood was the only thing that held the show together in Seasons 4 and 5. Claire's storyline and character just don't do it for me. I wish Frank Underwood were going to be there to close things out with one final show of strong-arming against other government agents.

Anywho, how do you all think they're going to deal with Underwood's departure?

The only way I can see that they can completely write Spacey out without totally ignoring the fact that his character existed is to open with news reports being read over footage of his closed-casket funeral.

Once it's over, I'd really like to hear what storyline they had written if Spacey hadn't gone all creep-mode on everyone.

Well it's clear Claire was always going to be President. The question is, would Francis have found a way to remain the puppet master or would Claire kill him? I told my chicky the show's final line would be... Et tu Claire?

Yeah I think the final season would have resulted in some sort of poetic betrayal (or maybe even a double-murder), but now it appears that Claire's betrayal will have happened off-screen and during the off-season... if there was a betrayal.

Perhaps they write it in that his regenerated liver failed and poisoned him while he was living in the hotel, in exile.

Or, perhaps they write him into prison for the murders of Zoe Barnes and Thomas Yates.

Interested to see where it goes.

Completely lost interest in this show after last season. I'll wait and see how everyone reviews it before deciding to spend time on it. So keep me posted. I'm ok with spoilers at this point.

Frankie J. is dead fo-sho... the only question is how.

I wonder if they'll answer it and be done with it right away, opening with a funeral or this scene at his tombstone, or if they'll keep it in the background as an ongoing "what happened? Did Claire kill him?" throughout the final season.

So, the newest season was actually really good for the first 6 episodes. Way better than the bullshit from seasons 4 and 5.

I think they were already transitioning to Claire as the lead, but the sudden departure of Spacey forced them to get really creative with the plot, at least in terms of figuring out how Claire could set up a long game to defeat her opponents... and it was really good! Better even than most of Frank's plots, where everything looks doomed and suddenly we find that he planned it all along, even though we hadn't seen any of the evidence.

This new season does a really good job of leaving cookie crumbs, keeping you engaged as you try to figure out how Claire is going to come out on top, or if she will at all. The plot revolves around her laying the foundation, rather than showing vague drama and giving you a big reveal with no actual setup.

I enjoyed it a lot, really.

Then they went and ruined it with the last two episodes. Totally jumped the shark, and for no other reason than "because we can."

They should have ended the season after she does her little chant into the camera.

That was bizarre.
