I believe Celiac's is a reaction to gluten. Which sucks because unfortunately gluten is in almost everything. Wishing the best for your daughter.

I actually searched this thread to post this, thought it was funny/had some different workouts for you all. From the ND boxing team with love, cheers.

https://blogs.nd.edu/bengal-bouts/tournament-information/current-boxers/winter-workout-2011-2012/

I have a friend with Celiac's, and it really does suck because gluten free food is not nearly as good as to what you're accustomed. Definitely causes your shopping list to change.

Bob, how much have you lost now? Very excited to hear that you're doing such a great job of losing weight! I just recently stopped drinking pop. Not sure my weight has gone down as of yet, but as we roll into spring and summer and I get more and more games of football and ultimate frisbee in, hopefully I lose some weight.

Been watching the thread for a while.

Was a "hard gainer" in college, at 6'3", I would have killed to be a ripped 215, and couldn't get an ounce over 195. Marriage and 4 kids later, and I topped out at 292. Workout warrior slowly evolved into armchair quarterback.

Wife decided we were all giving up sugar for Lent, which with my 2-liter a day soda habit, seemed like a daunting proposition. Of my four kids, I have a 10-year old girl who we've done a horrible job of teaching healthy choices the last couple of years, and now have to start battling with weight gain, which I would never wish on any girl. We also have a 3 year old twin who clinicians have identified as having symptons consistent with autism, and while high functioning, is scary to comprehend. With some speech therapy and hard work at home, he could very well grow out of these symptoms, but you just never know. We have learned that eliminating the gluten from his diet is good for his development, so doing it for my "Beast and my girl" is worth it alone.

Long story short, after a 24 hour caffeine withdrawal, it's been rewarding so far. Have not had a fast food meal or soda in 3 weeks. All water, lots of fruit, and eating every 3-4 hours moderate portions. Weighed in at 286.6 to start, 16.6 pounds lost so far. The exercise still needs to be thrown into the mix, but a good start. We'll see how things look at 215, but I would love to get back to my college weight. Plan is to enjoy a great meal at 215 or less watching ND-Navy.

You're young and playing football so your in good shape Beau.

I've been stuck at 33 lbs down for about a week now. I changed my workout this week so I should get some faster results soon. Oddly enough, I'm enjoying the healthy eating and workouts. The only days I feel bad are the days I don't workout.

Its awesome to see the weight we're losing! I haven't totaled it but I think we've lost a whole person!

Keep up the great work guys! I want to lose another 30 lbs by the end of May.

Down 25 lbs as of this morning! Only 5 more lbs to reach my original goal of 30 lbs. Could be a tough week though. My wife and I are going on a 7 day cruise through Royal Caribbean. We are leaving out of New Orleans, heading to Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica.

Haven't read through the whole thread, so sorry if its already been discussed...

Anyone on here on the primal or paleo diet? I've been on it for about 2 weeks now and have seen some pretty good results.

NICE WORK! A cruise is time for a break from dieting.....the buffet.

Really? How much have u lost. I have interest.

13 lbs since two Saturdays ago. I've always worked out but had started eating like crap for a while. So far its been pretty easy to stick to it because you can pretty much eat as much as you want, as long as it's the right stuff.

So many good recipes in addition to being able to eat meat, eggs, and BACON.

basically eating like cavemen. No processed food, no dairy, no grains.

red meat, chicken, fish, nuts except peanuts, berries, eggs, bacon.

there are all kinds on websites and variations on it but the one I follow/read the most is marksdailyapple.com. I'll share some of the recipes I've found and tried out if people are interested. Haven't tried one I didn't like yet.

I've also been doing intermittent fasting, which is fasting for 16 hours then eating til full the other 8 hours. It's basically just skipping a meal a day, but I've never really been big on breakfast anyway.

is that all you eat? No meat or anything? Check out the site I posted above.

No, I eat low fat yogurt, nuts, berries, fruit, rice, veggies and lots of salads that I add chcken, fish or shrimp to. I'm keeping it to about 1500 calories a day. I also allow myself a free day on Sundays.

Monday thru Saturday I catch myself eating the same things for 2 or 3 days in a row because its easy.

I seem to be stuck on having a banana and an apple with a yogurt for breakfast

hmm I don't know how many calories I've been eating but I have at no point been hungry. You can pretty much eat until you are full every day. And for the most part I eat the same things over and over except for the weekend when I try different stuff because I have more time.

try cutting that out for a week and see if you notice any changes. I'm usually done eating by 7 pm and don't eat again until 11 or noon.

I'll try it....I'm a breakfast person though.

I like not eating after 7 too but sometimes I get screwed because I have a 1 1/2 hour drive home every night.

I have heard good things about Paleo diets, but to me it’s all input and export. What are your net cals in a day. Honestly, if you are getting your macros in (carbs, protein, fats), and you are maintaining a net negative you will lose weight. I don’t care if you eat super clean and get to eat more, or if you eat only fast food and can’t eat as much. Check out this blog:

Google

Now mind you this is NOT the healthiest way to go about losing weight. As far as cardiovascular health etc. This is just for your "cheat" day. Cheat day does not equal 6000kcal day. Also, it’s not the end of the world If you have to hit Wendy’s during a busy lunch break.

Quick run down of how I make my diet:

Basically you can find your basal energy expenditure (BEE) a number of different ways. I use the Harris Benedict Equation, BEE = 66.5 + (13.75 x wt in kg) + (5.003 x ht in cm) - (6.775 x age)

You can find an online calculator here:

Basal Energy Expenditure

Man I don't understand why I can't post the rest of this. I keep getting internal errors. I tried to post it in parts, clear my cache, etc. Oh well not meant to be. The rest is about 3x this length, and talks about splitting your cal needs and help with deciding exactly what foods to take in to meet requirements. PM me if you are interested and I'll email it to you.

Probably best I couldn't post it hah, it was way too long.

I get that, but read some stuff on paleo. The foods you eat basically make your body burn fat.

Yup that's one theory, just like the people that carb cycle think that that kick starts metab, and the running on empty stomache ppl swear that causes an afterburn. I've read a lot about Paleo diets. Different strokes for different folks. At the end of the day I endorse whatever works for you, just trying to share what I do myself.

Paleo isn't that bad. Theres different approaches, and variations to use. Some go to the extreme and don't eat any carbs at all. (If thats your route only do it for 2-3 weeks)

My personal philosophy with dieting. Eat like you are a nomad living in 1000BC Germania. Meats, legumes, eggs..etc. It takes some discipline, but it definetly gets the job done. You just have to brainwash yourself to believe that food is nothing but fuel for your body

The only carbs I eat are in the morning and before a heaving chest/leg/back workout.
