By the way, partly I posted this here is because coconut oil helps to reduce belly fat and has other health benefits that are worth noting.

Similar issues to bleedbluegold. I lost weight for a while and a bunch around my middle, etc, yet the weight loss seems to have subsided some. I guess I'll just keep working towards having some abs. Hoping my injured buttock allows me to run again soon. Have nt run since April. Here we go, Couch to 5 K all over again.

I've had two back surgeries in the last three years. Running is extremely difficult for me, but I'm hoping to get back into it soon.

Funny you mention this. I literally just started using coconut oil with some meals. Great healthy fat source.

I had bariatric surgery in Nov 2013. In the nearly 11 months since then, I have dropped several sizes, several inches, and nearly 130 lbs.

PARTLY due to the surgery - but MOSTLY due to my new diet/exercise.

I haven't had bread/potatoes/pasta/rice/processed foods/fast food in that entire time. I've completely cut out soda/alcohol/fruit juice. I drink strictly water (the occasional glass of 1/2% milk).

I exercise 3-5 days per week. Whereas I used to think that running was the worst thing to do in the world, I now run (for fun) several miles per week. My pace is slow and steady, but I'm happy to report that I've run an entire 5k without stopping to walk. I'm going to start also incorporating some other exercises (pilates, yoga, zumba, core workouts, etc) to help strengthen my muscles.

I'd post a before and after picture of myself, but the before pictures are too yucky, and my "after" picture is already posted in the "post your photo" thread...

Hoping to be down another 10 lbs or so by the end of the year :)

That's awesome! Congratulations!

I get pissed at myself because I spent so many years in great shape. I played baseball and football, spent years in the military and even managed a health club for awhile. I used getting old and old army injuries as excuses to be lazy and got chubby. I work in a field where I am constantly around great chefs because we are always sponsoring food and drinking event's. I really have to watch myself and be stronger.

Down 18 lbs since starting back on the plan.

That's awesome! Both your progress, and the possibility of wine being THAT good for you.

So far I've been really happy with my progress. I started eating healthy and working out in May, and as of now I'm down 55 pounds. It's crazy how a little progress just pushes motivation through the roof. After I started seeing some changes I couldn't help but keep going with it. Now I'm working on integrating more weight training into my regimen, as I've mainly been running. But still got a ways to go, I'd really like to lose at least 30 more pounds. Going to be interesting with the holidays coming up, but just gotta stay the course!

Congratulations! I had my first "cheat" day on account of an amazing Halloween party last night, but I thought it was alright since I've lost 57 pounds over the last 3.5 months. I'm almost back at my deck-plate [Navy] weight!

Been trying to make some life changes as I'm 33 and a father of 2. I played football my entire life all the way through college pretty much playing on o or dline my entire life. Problem was after college I continued to eat like I was playing ball. When I graduated I was 309lbs of mean Olineman at 6'5". I ballooned up to 341.7 lbs April of this year. I made some serious changes in my diet, going paleo, gave up beer and changed my exercise from power lifting to more high reps lower weight type work outs. Well long story short, I hopped on my scale this morning after my morning walk and weighed in at 291.4! This has been an incredible journey and I'm loving it. The nice thing too is I get to buy new ND gear!!!!

Thanks for the congrats fellas! I will keep my focus and keep at. My target of 280 is approaching rapidly! This paleo thing is an awesome fit for me, not a diet, more of a lifestyle. Life is good and will be better after the Irish lay the wood to the Longhorns tonight!!! GO IRISH!!!

Started working out again and got on the paleo diet fad. Giving up bread sucks. Can't give up beer, though.

How old are you?

Same thing happened to me when I turned 40 - then each year gained another 5 pounds. When I turned 45, I made a decision to try and get the weight off. I've lost 25, but still want to lose another 15. I'm 47 now, lift weights, run, eat well (except for bourbon).... but the weight doen't want to come off that easy for me...sucks getting old.

Who the fuck are you and how did you get my measurable. Current age, current weight, and height (altho I'm 6') is spot on.

I've also put on a few pounds the last year or so but have always been and athletic build. For years until recently I struggled to put on weight.

Football, Baseball and Soccer... all of my coaches were constantly trying everything to get me to put on weight. I even had stuff pushed on my by my parents and coaches that is now illegal in most sports like creatine shakes and other supplements. I have never been able to put on muscle mass or extra weight, even now really, but my gut and even my chin can pack it all of a sudden if I'm not careful... I learned that much.

I hear ya. I was pushed by my doctor to try similar things, but never did. I remember graduating 17 years ago at 5'8" and 100 pounds soaking wet. I grew 4" the next year but only added roughly 20-23 pounds. I didn't break 150 pounds until I was like 25. And the remained there until I hit 30. I have little to no fat anywhere, except for a small bulge in the stomach. I remember at 23 getting my body fat measured and it was around 4%. The crazy thing is I eat at least 3 full meals a day. Plus snack about 10 am, 2 pm, and 9 pm. Usually included daily are 3 candy bars, a few baggies of chips, cookies, and a granola bar or two. I need to stop as I'm sure it isn't healthy. And I keep telling myself that. But I haven't yet. If I go healthy for a few days, no sweets, nuts for a snack, water for a drink, salad for one of the meals, I can feal a noticeable difference.
And not a single day in my life have I ever worked out.

Only two things came to my mind while reading this:

-diabetes
-worms

I'm pretty sure you have both.

Both of parents are built similar. Both eat healthy. One has to watch their sugar. The other their colesterol. I know both will be in my near future.

I hit a weight loss plateau and need some guidance. I started out at 225, and now I am 190. I lift weights 3 times/week - every workout I do mostly compound movements like bench press, squat, deadlift - each workout I hit different body parts so I give my muscles time to rebuild. On no-lift days I do cardio - in the summer I ran outside, but now that it is getting colder I ride a spin bike.

My diet is pretty clean, and I eat about 5 small meals per day. Just can't see m to lose any more weight...been at 190 for about a month. I'm 47 years old so I might not have the testosterone that I once had.... Any ideas or suggestions?

Start using a food logger like myfitnesspal. Track all the food that you eat (honestly). Make sure your protein is about 2 g per kg you weigh (1 lb = 2.2 kg).

For example: If you weigh 200 lbs (91 kg). 91 kg x 2 g protein = 182. So shoot for that many g of protein in a day. You may have to supplement with a protein powder to get there. LPT - make sure the protein supplement you use is a whey ISOLATE protein. And sandwich the protein shake drinking between your workout (16 ounces of shake before your workout, 16 ounces of shake after your workout). And lots of water! (ideal is about 1 gal of water per day)

Weight lifting adds muscle, which is denser and heavier than fat. You may have hit a plateau, but it may be a good one. If you still have a gut, you need to cut out the sugar carbs.
