Against Michigan State this kid stepped up in the fourth quarter. He had 4 huge breaks on the football and was constantly flying all over the field. I think he really stepped up and solidified himself as the leader in the Notre Dame secondary. I know everyone is high on Lynch and Blanton which both player stellar games, but Smith was flying around and in the secondary and coming up to make a few key tackles. Great overall defensive effort and a great win for the Irish to get back on track.

i agree that he had a great game and really broke on the ball real well. he can just lay the wood to somebody but i think blanton had the best day. Without both of them i don't think we win that game because they both played really good.

I agree. He's become one of my favorite players on this team.

I was really just glad to see the Irish FINISH a game. Michigan state was also the best defense the irish have played thus far and I thought they ran the ball very well and mixed in the pass to win the game. If we all remember correctly when Tommy rees was winning games he was not throwing for a ton of yards. When he throws for a lot of yards i think its a bad thing. Run the football and play a balanced gameplan on offense and this defense will take care of the rest. Next week against Pitt should be a another good game for the Irish to go out and grow both offensively and defensively. Pitt has some weapons on offense at RB but Sunseri has not impressed me with his decisions overall. I think Irish 34-17 with Cierre wood running for 150+ and Harrison taking a couple away! Can't wait to win 10 straight!

Harrison Smith (and the entire secondary) will look great as long as we keep on getting pressure on the QB like we did yesterday.

Mayock [an ex-d-back himself] said that when Harrison is allowed to play true safety [rather than half support linebacker vs DRob or BJDaniels] there is no better safety in the nation. That I have believed for this season and most of last. Harrison Smith is flat out great, and he'll be drafted.

Let him or Blanton return punts. Smith is fearless and would run North South like Zibby did.

Actually Smith returning punts isn't a terrible idea. Kelly cited him as one of the three best hands people for fielding punts during fall practice.

I was happy to see him playing up to the level that was expected of him this season. When he's on, he's on. I hope to see a lot more of that this season.

We're not really getting the blocks we need for a punt return.. regardless of who is back there.

I mean, it could be good hang times too.. I'm not positive.. I'd have to go back and look but it seems like the blocking is lacking to me.

If thats the case you've got to keep a hands guy back there.. Goody won't drop another.

He keeps his game up like he did Saturday, wideouts better be playing defense because his picks will come.
