Imagine sitting on your hands at a sporting event (which is fine if not prefered) but also wanting to control what other adults (who are having too much fun to pay attention to you) are doing around you, and then having the gall to refer to those people as punks.

What an asshole lol.

I've been to 3 Sun Bowls and I love the experience. The El Paso locals go annually as a matter of pride. They pick a side and cheer at random. A bunch of them are there to drink and get really passionate about rooting on their newly adopted team. They then end up starting fights with other locals who randomly chose to cheer for the other team. It's actually amazing if you think about it.

Awesome back story. Had no idea that’s how they roll down there. Thought I just stumbled into a really fun passionate section of the ND fanbase.

Can confirm.

For those that said the stadium was quiet during the Ty/Weis years, not always. The Bush Push game is still the loudest I've ever heard that stadium, and that was before the video board and the extra walls to help trap sound in. The '23 OSU game was a close 2nd. There were a number of games during those years that were loud, but there were a lot of weaker opponents that hung around and the crowd was dead.

The Bush Push game was an extreme outlier for that time period. Unfortunately, most home games I went to back then were a lot different. There was a lot of "encouragement" to sit on your hands even during big defensive moments in a game where the crowd should be making things difficult on opposing quarterbacks. It was a bit shocking and made the trip to South Bend not worth the effort.

I want to clarify my standings here to not be on the side of burmafrd1944:

I want the band to play songs, songs that get the people going. I want the Irish Guard to be tall dudes going nuts. I also want people SCREAMING and going nuts in the stands when we are on defense. Thank you for your attention to this delicate matter.

Talked about Carr, Williams, Osborne, Greathouse, Gilbert, Porter, Jagusah, Craig, Traore, Faraimo, and KVAs injury. When he started going on about Traore’s injury two years ago I was like is this a bit lol. Might as well had Rob Hunt do the episode

Yeah that was odd. To be fair, this team is so loaded that key injuries might be the only thing that can derail them. Maybe that's why O'Malley is hyper-focused on it.

I will say there is a difference in the level of inebriation that can be tolerated. We had a couple of dudes sitting next to me and the wife. He was shit faced. He kept bumping and leaning into the wife. She wouldn't swap seats or let me say anything to him. A guy behind us saw what was happening and said something to no avail. I finally said something to him, but it didn't help. Spoke to an usher, who did nothing. Go figure.

I think it's who you know too, or where you're sitting. Back in 2011 I had a buddy fly in California for the Air Force game, he was fresh in the Army. He wasn't in uniform, but he was wearing fatigues and an Army sweatshirt so it was obvious what he did. My brother overserved him at the tailgate, but I thought he could hold his liquor since he was a young dude in shape. Well, after the Star Spangled Banner and a Stealth Bomber flyover I left him in our seats and let him know I would be right back. I went down to get a picture with my brother and grandparents in the gold seats only to find my brother wasn't there. I got a text from him shortly after. Turns out my buddy was puking down his sweatshirt trying to conceal/contain his situation and he was ratted out to an usher. My brother was on the way to the bathroom and saw him getting escorted out, he felt bad and decided to babysit him since he contributed to the problem. Since I bought my buddy's ticket and mine I got a nice letter from the University later saying if it happens again it's a permanent expulsion. That dude is a Captain in the armor division now!

Anyway, I decided to take my brother's place in the gold seats to keep my grandparents company. At that same game there was a girl passed the fuck out a row across from us. She would wake up, puke all over herself, and then fall back asleep. There was no attempt to conceal it or do anything. She was allowed to stay there the rest of game, which blew my mind after what I found out from my brother.
