This. MSU is in our Top 5 among teams we've faced the most in history. The list goes: Navy, USC, Purdue, Pitt, MSU.There is a TON of history there, not to mention the ol' Megaphone Trophy which is still in our possession. While MSU isn't an enemy like Michigan, they are a very strong rival and there's a little bit of bad blood at times. Look at some of the recent games over the last 20 years:

You had them planting the flag on our field in '05.
The revenge game in '06 which led to the infamous Mike Valenti rant and MSU standing at their 50 yard line alone as they tried to defend their field from a flag planting that never happened.
There was Rees upsetting their 2013 season for MSU's lone loss and preventing them from going to the National Championship.
There was the bogus "Little Giants" play that should have had a flag thrown on it.
Then Dantonio came back the next year trying to capitalize on a trick play again and got his ass stuffed.

There's more, but that's just some of the recent history. You've got the '66 "Game of the Century" too that ended in a tie and plenty of other classics.

As much as Michigan sucks and it's fun to beat their ass, we have way, way more history with MSU.
Plus, there is a general disdain among Sparty fans for ND, however, all bets are off whenever ND plays scUM. It's like we all become brethren in hatred lol. East Lansing is a great time, too. The stadium is a bit worn down, a lot like ND Stadium was before some of the more recent renovations to the concourse, but they have a great tailgate scene. Those Dantonio years made for some damn good football games.

On a Sunday... I assume it is the week before NFL season
NFL regular season usually starts the week after Labor Day so that tracks. Kind of bummed, in 2020, they had the game scheduled at Lambeau on a Saturday, with MNF between the Packers and Falcons also at Lambeau. Was hoping they'd schedule it similarly, but it looks as though that won't be the case. Oh well.

I was thinking the same, figured they surely would have the Packers at home the following day. In any case, gotta make this one. Wonder if it will be a night game?

Pfft! Ya'll spoiled. Some of you clearly didn't go to any games before the first expansion/renovation in '96!

dshans: I remember before 1930 when it was just Cartier Field, no stadium!

I'd imagine so. IIRC, it should be an NBC broadcast, with ND as the defacto home team, so I imagine it'll be a 7-8 EST type of kickoff.

Rules out Big Noon, because Fox doesn't get ND "home games", of which this is considered to be (last game in Chicago was on Fox Big Noon). And 3:30 on a Sunday makes zero sense when you have the prime time slot (presumably) all to yourself.

Poor Purdue, they are worse than the 2nd string at Pitt or Navy.

$140 to sit upper end zone for a regular season game against Boise. $150 for Purdue. They’re going to price out their die-hards from making the trip. Used to be able to justify the drive and lodging and everything else for a $125 face value ticket for a USC game and $50 face value ticket for other non-premier games. This is silly

lol. You want cheap tickets? Don’t complain then when ND can’t give Marcus Freeman another raise or use all the money for revenue sharing.

I remember a time when you could see America’s premier Heavy Metal bands for $15 general admission and feast at Taco Bell afterwards for like $2.

Honestly, $150 isn’t too bad.

as a season ticket holder, we've been not only paying high ticket prices, but also required to pay a fee in order to be a season ticket holder. For my upper bowl tickets, that fee is greater than the combined season game tickets. Only able to travel to 2-3 games, and never able to sell the other tickets at even breakeven price. Gets worse when opponents are weak. Welcome to sports economics.

$150 a ticket is bad for me. I’ll never be able to buy tickets for myself and my family at that price. I’m being phased out of being able to attend.

I paid $700 to see Guns’N’Roses several years ago and $250 each to see TOOL and Radiohead at MSG. They were all great shows and fantastic performances.

The issue with high prices for games is that if your team loses, especially if they play poorly, then you didn’t have an enjoyable experience. At a concert, you’re usually going to have a good time.

For most you get a whole weekend out of going to ND not just a 2 hour concert

Yeah, I always make concerts a mini vacation. I live in Indy and usually go to Chicago and New York for concerts. I like to stay at a 4 star hotel, maybe go to a Michelin star restaurant, etc. I’m just not interested in making South Bend anything more than a day trip.

Notre Dame sold out its allotment very quickly, before even lower-tier Sorin Society members had access. Pretty sure BC has sold its out as well. Looks like they start in the low $200s on Stubhub right now.
It's always a tough ticket b/c it's a small stadium, BC thinks we're their rival, and Boston has a lot of Notre Dame people around.

I’m more concerned with beer prices than ticket prices now.
Do whatever Mercedes Benz Stadium does and hire whoever is in charge of their concession logistics. That thing ran more efficient than a Chik Fil A and was extremely cheap at the national title game. ~$40 for my wife and I’s food, beers and waters for our first trip to the concessions. I thought they forgot to ring up the beers when I went to pay.

Had the same experience catching a niner-atlanta game. Had only been to the giants’/jets’ stadium before. Did a double check when they rang us up at Atlanta…and free soda refills lol
