How bout:

Safety = 6 + XP / 2 pt conv. for the Defense.
Punts = 1 for D
4th Down stop = 2 for the D
Fumble/Int = 2 for the D... a Pick Six is now a Pick Eight
After 5 sacks/TFL's you enter the bonus and get 1 pt for each additional.

On Off: TD's from greater than 50 = 8 + XP / 2 pt try

+ If the D stops a 2 pt try, they get 1 pt

Too much math. I'd miss several plays while I'm trying to do the math on a play that was three downs ago.

I’ve got a feeling this will be a home run hire, both on the field and the trail.

You guys, if this doesn't work out, I'm going to be devastated.

Mickens is a dude. He's going to recruit good players, but he's also going to identify 3-star gems late in the process when necessary, and develop them into lockdown corners.

I AM ALL IN ON MIKE MICKENS.

He's done a really good job with Cincy's CB's recently and we certainly have some talented athletes for him to work with. Excited to see what he can do.

Awesome news! I think he’s the best of the candidates. Can’t wait to see what he does.

Alright, time for him to go get Ceyair Wright, Jordan Hancock, and Devonta Smith. Too soon?

I really don't think the timing of the CB coach will have an impact on Wright or Smith. Those guys have been recruited for awhile and made priorities by the staff. Hancock I'm just unsure of what's going on there. But I really don't think Mickens walking through the halls with BK, Polian, and Lea matters as much as it does that we've gone all out for those guys.

So he is DB coach instead of CBs, eh? I hope Joseph is cool with that.

Smith doesn't have an offer from OSU yet but it's coming now that Mickens got the job. Mickens obviously knows Smith as well as anyone in the country. Had to be in the first handful of offers with the MAC or maybe was first OA? But OSU got a commitment from his fellow LaSalle teammate Jaylon Johnson last month so obviously they will be tough to beat when offered.

As for Ceyair Wright... between his acting career several credits to his name alread + playing LeBron's son in the upcoming Space Jam II which continues to shoot through this summer as I understand... AND the fact that Oregon was the team leading for him per Biggins/247 before Williams left Oregon for LA. I see zero way Wright gets out of Hollywood now.

Won’t disagree with anything here but I don’t think it changes whether Mickens is the coach on Feb 13th or January 13th. Don’t think the decision being ‘late’ has any impact ultimately. All of the above would be true regardless.

Do you think timing has something to do with the lack of CB’s visiting for the March junior day? Or not at all? I’m not sure if the crazy influx of OL’s in March has to do with OLinemen choosing earlier, Jeff Quinn’s recruiting talent, or ND’s draw for OLinemen around the country. I’m just curious. Pete Sampson didn’t sound concerned about one month late for one position coach because as you’ve mentioned and ND has mentioned, most recruitments are team efforts with usually 2-3+ guys teaming up for a recruit. I think the OLinemen are getting a combo of Brian Kelly, Tommy Rees and Jeff Quinn for example whereas DB’s would probably be Lea, Mickens and maybe an area recruiter.

There also isn’t any uncommitted WR’s, S’s, or LB’s as confirmed visitors and they all have position coaches.

CB’s of interest got a lot of heat from Kelly, Polian, Lea, and Joseph during the most recent contact period. In general, I just think they’re going to run into some tough recruitments with those guys. Doubt 30-45 days of Mickens is the difference maker. Also, it wouldn’t surprise me if we see CB’s start to set Spring visits. Some already being talked about.

This Junior day seemed kind of centered around the offense and specifically OL.

Thanks for the response. Also, they’ve got 4 weekends in March to get unofficial visitors on campus. April 1st guys will start asking to take OV’s but March is a period where you’ve got lots of spring breaks and junior days to have before the OV period. Last year they had a January, February and March junior day. This year with a month long dead period they’ll have March as their main unofficial visit period followed by April for OV’s before spring evals begin. Mickens will be tested in his very first recruiting cycle cause it looks like ND might be taking 4-5 DB’s in this cycle to fill up their defensive backfield. I’m excited to see him go to work.

He won’t be solely responsible for all DB recruiting as Joseph will be going after S’s. But he’s got a tough first group to reel in, no doubt about that.

Also, I think you’ll still see guys unofficial in the Spring (April/May) and then schedule summer OV’s. They’re trying to get guys like Slocum, McCutcheon, Harvey, and Xamarion Gordon to visit twice. Some of those are likely to do so. Then some of the other targets have already visited before like Wright, Kirkwood, and Smith.

ND’s chances of reeling in a recruit off of two visits instead of one is amazing. It jumps up significantly. That unofficial followed by an official is exciting. That’s why ND’s got a real good shot with a lot of these OLinemen cause they’ll be visiting ND for a 2nd-3rd time and could take OV’s on top of that so there will be a lot of familiarity there hopefully.

Slightly off topic but how huge would it if Noah Boykin was here in his 3rd year, set to be CB1?

Man I wish he would have stuck. The window to playing time was always going to burst open in 2020.

Kids now days want instant gratification. You are spot on, he would have looked good in the boundary. With what 2-3 years to play it? I don't know the full story behind his leaving, and it prob has more to do with then just PT.

1. Troy Pride
2. Shaun Crawford
3. Tariq Bracy
4. Donte Vaughn
5. Noah Boykin
6. KJ Wallace
7. Isaiah Rutherford
8. Cam Hart

I think even in 2019 Boykin would likely have played a decent amount. It probably looked daunting being the 5th CB on the roster before fall camp but that’s why it’s important to stick things out sometimes. He’ll likely be a 3 year starter at UMass tho. Hart moved to corner after Boykin left and Griffith was still cross training and stuff so Boykin might’ve seen #6 at CB which isn’t fun. 2020 though they’ll have a whole new depth chart

1. Shaun Crawford
2. Tariq Bracy
3. KJ Wallace
4. Isaiah Rutherford
5. Cam Hart
6. Caleb Offord
7. Ramon Henderson
8. Clarence Lewis

"Notre Dame hasn’t beaten a team that finished in the Top 10 since 2013, and at the time that opponent - Michigan State - was unranked when the Irish met." ~ Bryan Driskell

Interesting breakdown on our record vs. ranked, unranked and top 10 teams for the last 3 seasons:

Unranked - 25-0
Ranked 11th-25th - 8-3
Top 10 opponents - 0 wins since 2013

Very interesting... with the 2019/2020 class coming in, the 2021 class looking very good right now.. and somewhat interesting schedules coming up in 2021/22... the Irish should be looking at NC and nothing less. I tend to agree with the 10-2 record for this year. 11-1 is VERY possible to get into playoffs. But, waaaayyyyy too early to know for sure.

But - very exciting next 2-3 years for sure.

otherwise how do you explain the move to UMass, one of the absolute worst programs in FBS.
