My old man was so good at being subtly brutal with this shit. This lunatic's side job was building and/or renovating houses so when I reached a working age, roughly 8, he would take me with him in the summer or on weekends to give him a hand. I would always dick something up or screw around but he didn't really scream and yell. Instead, he would give me some bullshit job, and I was totally unaware it was a bullshit job when it was assigned.

Most of the time it was cleaning up and sweeping b/c "any idiot can push a broom" but he would get real creative sometimes. One hot ass summer day he took me with him to finish the rough plumbing in a house he was building. I kept bringing him the wrong fittings and he's getting more and more irritated as the day goes on. It's the wrong size one time, the next it's a wrong fitting - I mean, what twelve year old doesn't know the difference between a street elbow and a regular elbow?

He reaches his limit and calmly tells me follow him outside. He points to a giant pile of bricks sitting on the corner of the house and tells me to move them to the opposite side for the bricklayers. So I haul these bricks to the other side of the lot like he asked, stacked them up beautifully so he didn't bitch about the bricks looking sloppy, and marched my skinny ass back inside to tell him I'm done. "Hey d-d-d-dad, I'm done", and he responds without even looking my direction, "go move them back to where you found them".

I really didn't know what to make of it so I just asked him why. He looks down at me and says in a matter of fact tone, "dumb people have to work hard to make it - if I can't teach you how to do something, I'll teach you how to work hard."

Love that old man.

I’m a school administrator. Was at our junior high today and noticed this gem on a bulletin board outside a 7th grade Science classroom. Can’t wait to let the principal—who would not know who this is, OR what it means to PIIHB—learn all about Mia Khalifa in the morning lmao.

7th graders are WILDIN though 😂

I taught just about all grades before finding my niche in higher Ed,…. 7th grade was the worst by miles
My building ends at 6th grade—but those 7th graders in training give me a great glimpse into what my colleague at the junior high contends with on the daily.
