I think the key difference is that Brey finally has enough athleticism on this team that it no longer has to live and die by the 3. As much as I loved how Tory Jackson, Carleton Scott, Eric Atkins, and Ben Hansbrough played, and as popular as Harangody and Cooley are, those teams had about a tenth of the athleticism we do this year. This year is also the first where there isn't one player who is depended on to make a comeback (McAlarney, Harangody, Hansbrough) by himself. Grant is capable of it, but every player on the team can make clutch shots, and Auguste proved against Butler he can hit clutch free throws. So the criticism of Brey was not wholly unwarranted, but I think this season shows that his teams played the way they did because of a dearth of athleticism, and not because of lack of depth (as I thought) or an inability to adjust in-game.
