I would add the walk on safety as the third SS. Chris Silvo or something like that.
#24, Chris Salvi. Good idea, as he's more likely to see some playing time this year.

Supposedly a real solid player. Wouldn't be surprised to see him on special teams a lot.#24, Chris Salvi. Good idea, as he's more likely to see some playing time this year.

(1) Floyd; (2) Jones; (3) Goodman; (4) Smith for outside receiver, apparently.
It just means that Goodman is distancing himself from Smith. If Daniels overtakes anyone this season, it'll probably be Smith now.
Ok...So I should move some of the names around at WR?
Put Goodman #2 behind Floyd and Smith #2 behind TJ?
I'd leave it the way you have it. The only thing that comment from Kelly changes is that if either Floyd or TJ goes down, Goodman probably takes over as the #1 at that slot.
Whatever's being listed, I looked rather carefully at what Kelly said the other day [yesterday? the day before? ---one of the two, recent anyway] and his discussion of the wides sounded VERY much like he is thinking of Davaris Daniels as his #5 receiver right now. The top four were Floyd, Riddick, TJ, and Toma, in that order. I think that whether my interpretation of his remarks is exact or not, Daniels is genuinely rising. I believe that Kelly is GaGa about the upside, and is only waiting for route-running precision, which he thinks is happening. Plus, with his future-orientation, Daniels is the athleticism heir apparent to Floyd next year. I'm going to be precisely zero surprised to see Daniels with a bunch of playing minutes this year. [Goodman was next by the way. Smith was not mentioned in that commentary, but Farley was].
OMM, my understanding is that Goodman is stil at #5 and Daniels is #6... for now anyways. He is improving each day and definitely believe we he will pass Goodman, just hasn't reached that level yet.
He said Danny Smith still has to get back into the flow of things coming off his injury.
BGI has Schwenke as the #2 SDE and Tuitt #3.
Also just an FYI they list Councell as the #4 Dog and no one behind Ishaq at Cat
They also list Mass as the #3 W.
Deion is listed as the #4 X :\
“@hansensouthbend: #NotreDame's depth chart for Saturday's opener is out. A few interesting tidbits. Freshman DaVaris Daniels is No. 2 WR behind TJ Jones."

@hansensouthbend: Other freshmen in the two-deeps: LT Nick Martin, RG Conor Hanratty, DE Aaron Lynch, DE Stephon Tuitt, KO Kyle Brindza, P Brindza ...
@hansensouthbend: Freshman Troy Niklas is listed as 2 or 3 at drop linebacker, while Ishaq Williams is 2 or 3 at "cat" linebacker
They used the "or" designation for Fox/ Calabrese and Slaughter/ Motta. I guess that's how they're denoting a shared role. So Niklas and Williams are 2(b). They've either made excellent progress, or Spond and Filer aren't going to be as good as advertized (not that Filer has any hype at this point). Probably a little of both.
I know it's way too early for this type of speculation, but I wonder what will happen with Councell after the emergence of Niklas at the OLB spot opposite Ishaq. Many had believed that it was Councell's spot in the future. I love where our program is headed when these are the types of questions I have.
I read this as they REALLY want Niklas to play Dog, and that although Ishaq is having some trouble negotiating the Cat, Troy is going to the opposite side [mainly]. Niklas must be a freak of Aaron Lynch proportions. He is going to be jaw-dropping to watch. The staff seems to be setting up a future with Ishaq on one side and Troy on the other: the two most gigantic paired outside linebackers in football.
Any chance that Filer/Ishaq and Spond/Niklas will each be used in different reserve roles? For instance, Filer and Spond would replace the starter when fatigue becomes a factor, and Ishaq and Niklas would be used in specific, predetermined situation (or vice versa)?

Chances DaVaris Daniels starts next year? I'd say high.
You think he can jump Jones? I don't see him starting in a three-receiver offense.
Davirs will take floyds spot next year. He has more upside than TJ. Daniels is just a freshman. Still wish Deion Walker didnt hide in the corner for four years. Really wanted to see that guy ball out at Notre Dame.
Cat is more complicated. Fleming can do it all, but Filer has never been able to put it all together mentally, and Ishaq's head is still spinning. One might expect Filer and Ishaq to be used primarily on passing downs to keep their responsibilities simple, but that's supposedly Fleming's strong point. There's no obvious situation where it'd be a good idea to take Fleming off the field, since I'm not sure the staff trusts the other two in coverage.
I agree with this based on our general idea about what these guys do well, but we really don't have any way of knowing, specifically, what assignments these guys excel at or struggle with within the defense. But the staff would know if, for example, there was a specific call or a specific assignment that Ishaq or Filer excelled at.
So yeah, there is certainly no obvious situation where we can say it would be wise to take Fleming off the field based on what we know. But it doesn't seem far fetched to me to think that one of the other guys may do a particular thing really well, and that the staff may put them in position that thing on Saturday.
