Clarence Lewis is a sophomore. MTA is a SDE

Agreed in terms of current classification, but I think we'll see MTA at DT a bit too. Still trying to figure out our D, but I think MTA will be DE in 3-3-5 sets, but might spend time at DT in 4-3-4 or 4-2-5 fronts. I definitely think we'll see Foskey and Botelho on the field at the same time as DEs, with MTA popping the middle on passing downs.

So after spring ball concludes, what's the over/under on ND players hitting the portal?

I'm gonna say 2.5.

If It looks like we're starting Blake and Rocco on the left side, I can see at least one OL. I could also see one or two on the DL with some of the younger guys locking things down.

Freeman confirmed that MTA will be sliding inside to get more length/speed on the edge in Nickel/Dime packages.

Thanks.

Makes sense. I hope to see a Foskey-MTA-Botelho front, with perhaps Bauer or Kiser crashing downhill. Crashes from Hamilton or Griffith would be welcome too. Nasty potential.

In looking through our roster I see at least 1 OL, 1 LB, and 1 S that I half expect to leave before the season.

I could see 1-2 on the OL, maybe even 3 if Tosh moves to RT. A few on the DL maybe, but if we use a lot of varied fronts and rotate a bunch, perhaps not.

I don't really see problems at LB or DB though. Nothing would surprise me.

I'm so excited about this D-Line. I'm guessing that no one leaves and it makes life pretty difficult for McKenzie Milton

Same here. I'm really stoked about our D in general now with the new scheme. I know were were good before, but we just lacked something vs top O teams. I think the D will vary a lot more, while also letting athletes be athletes. And I think it will be more aggressive.

Game one does have me worried. Getting more confident about our D though. Still worried about the O with all the moving parts, a new QB, and basically an all new OL. Milton will be a nice test early for our D. Hoping the O doesn't have too many bumps early. Hoping the passing game takes a nice step forward if the OL turns out to be solid. And I'll be stoked if they make Mayer and Austin centerpieces. And while I'm dreaming, some two back sets.

Obviously, that's the hope but man, Lea's defenses were pretty damn good. Before we ran into the buzzsaw of Alabama and Clemson pt Deux, we were locking a lot of teams down. We're all secretly hoping Freeman and the players take the next step. If this defense is going to shift from assignment-oriented to more attacking, we better be in the top 5 in all the havoc stats: TFLs, Pressures, Sacks, stuffs (and TOs to a lesser degree). Then we can absorb the occasional pop pass for 50 or big running play.

The offense is a giant black box and I kind of love it. We all knew how the offense was going to look going into 2020 given the strengths of the team. It didn't disappoint in that we had a 2nd team AA RB emerge, a touted freshman get his feet wet and Michael Mayer looks like he could be the best TE in the country as a sophomore.

Going into 2021 season, we can expect reduced line play, add a QB who sits in the pocket, scans the field and historically completes 70% of his passes, and hope Austin and Lenzy are healthy all season. I'm excited to see what actually gets installed in the fall. 2 RB sets, 11 personnel, 12 personnel, 4/5 wide with TE flexing?

They moved Ekwonu from Buck to Vyper. Not sure if it'll stick. He's third string either way.

I take that as bad news.

EDIT: Well, it's just speculation. But if they really are looking that's saying something not good about the current group which no longer has the excuse of being young.

Floor to me was a 10 win team last year. Floor to me this year is a 9 win team. The level of domination likely won’t be the same but no Clemson and still an advantage at most spots will shine through

Didn't you think that last year too though lol

But to answer your question, I have no idea. Way less confident in the team this year than I was last year. Sooooooooooo much production to replace.

It will depend on Coan throwing over the middle of the field effectively, because (1) running the ball is gonna be an issue, and (2) he needs to get into a groove with Mayer on intermediate stuff to help unlock some of the unproven WR's.

we'll know first quarter versus FSU in Tallahassee. Hoping its not Texas in 2016 like :/

We hardly knew anything about the team after the Duke game. And USF wasn't much better for true data points. It seemed like FSU last year was the point where I had a handle on the team, then they dropped a big Louisville the following week, then stomped Pitt.

I think that if anyone expects the last few years they might be severely disappointed. We lost a lot on the offensive side of the ball.

I think if we have only lost 2-3 games at the end of the season, it would be a pretty huge success. Even with our somewhat favorable schedule.

I think we will win 10 games and expect the offense to be better than last year.

We will have nationally elite backs and TEs. Our receivers could be bad, but that was the case anyway last year. The optimist in me expects a solid option to emerge from the young-ins and for the unit to at least get better overall. The only way the offense regresses is if we all come to the realization that Book was 3x the player that we all thought he was.

Also, no one on our schedule is a definite loss.
