I don’t follow the message board stuff much for City but the impression I got was he was available in order to get Kane. Then when that fell through, he wanted out (to La Liga I believe). Saw Laporte did as well. Rumor was $60 million would have gotten you Silva. Nobody bought. Obviously glad both stayed. Silva has always been a favorite for his work rate alone. Plus he seems like a guy you hate when not on your team but love when he is.

Probably true.

He was the only City player that didn't clap during the guard of honor for Liverpool and he left the line rather....prematurely. At any rate, I thought he was excellent on Sunday and was a big difference in that match. Most will either remember Milner's foul on him or Salah putting him on his ass but everything else in between was quite good.

I still enjoy watching Liverpool play City if for nothing else the reminder that Chelsea had both Salah and DeBruyne at one point. Brilliant.

Good shot Italy’s 30+ game unbeaten streak comes to an end. Down 1-0 vs Spain and they just got a red card in the first half.

Strange to make an announcement like this, but good news still.

Hoping to see him and Adams together dominating with Aaronson filling in for that Reyna role.

Like just earlier this week I was just having a discussion in class with some soccer fan students of mine... both city fans...... both laughed and tried to flex when I told them I followed Celtic and Newcastle. I'll have to show up to class in my NC jersey next week....

I also can't wait for the new ownership to just go full FIFA and buy titles while the usual suspect's fans cry about it....

my fandom is super petty like that.

It would be immensely satisfying for the new ownership to basically go FIFA on the world and buy up titles left and right only for fans of the usual suspects to cry foul... My fandom is real, and super petty.

As a City fan (pre takeover, I will add), I’m excited for Newcastle to start spending some money. The biggest problem with most leagues is one or two teams consistently dominate. The more elite teams in the EPL, the better. IMO.

Newcastle is my second favorite team in England. Now I will probably hate them in five years.

That city and these supporters deserve to have an owner that actually tries. My guess is these guys go all in ala Roman, Citah, PSG, etc. and they will be in the mix before long. This is bad news for the likes of United, Arsenal, Spurs, Everton for sure. For everyone, really. That club is a sleeping giant. One club town with rabid supporters who are hungry.

I believe it is worse for us. City, United, Chelsea have owners who spend. Our owners are the cheapest out of the lot.

No way would I take Newcastle's current situation before Liverpool's. Not even close. Mike Ashley is a scumbag and Steve Bruce is a complete buffoon. FSG might not spend like Russian or Saudi owners, but they got Klopp and won a League and Europe. They have resigned most of this core group and are working on Mane and Salah next. They saved the club from near ruin. New training ground, state of art, one stadium addition done and a second on the way.

Chelsea would have sacked Klopp by now. City still haven't won Europe. Klopp went to back to back finals.

United are in debt up to their eyeballs and have a former manager that still hovers over them voicing his opinions, a former player who should not have been brought back and a former player who should not be their manager. I'm selling that all day long.

Liverpool have done it a different way but you had better thank your lucky stars the situation isn't like where Newcastle is with the current ownership.

This will be Newcastle fans in a few years.

Good thing I have documentation..... just like my Browns fandom (hopefully) in a few years...

There were like three Americans in total who had even heard of City before the takeover... all three of them were Man U fans... so

They have done it differently.. Klopp will not be around much longer and then what? This takeover is bad for everyone, but especially bad for owners who do not invest huge in transfers and focuses on retaining what we got. Plus it sounds like FSG is scoffing at Salah's demands, much like they did Gini.

It's funny, I became a City fan specifically so I wouldn't be a bandwagon jumper. I had been watching a lot of soccer around the time Bill Simmons wrote an article about choosing an EPL side. This was in the Summer of '06. I believe he compared City to the L.A. Clippers. I didn't think it was right to start rooting for United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, etc... Thought the honorable thing to do was suffer as a fan. It was a difficult few years for me. :)

Here is a link to the article. Pretty interesting 15 years later.

Newcastle bc it's closest to Scotland and ef England... turning into Darth Vader and ruining the league for all the southern teams would be sports porn for me... lol at least I'm honest.

Klopp's current contract is up in 2024 I believe. Pound for pound, the best manager in football. He's done it without massive transfer fees at Mainz, Dortmund and now Liverpool. Maybe he comes back, maybe by then Gerrard is ready or it goes to Lijnders. For now, I'd say enjoy it and live in the present. This is about as good as it has been in decades. Don't worry about what happens when Klopp leaves. He's here now.

They have retained what they've got. Allison, Virgil, Robertson, Trent, Fabinho, Henderson. They just bought Jota and Konate. They have brought up Jones and Elliott from the academy. Kaide Gordon is a player and he's 17. They have a plan, a philosophy and structure. United has transfers but no plan, philosophy or structure. There's always Arsenal too if you fancy that situation.

Salah will be signed. The press is having a go right now based on nothing concrete. Gini's situation was something different entirely. You don't break wage structure for Gini, you break it for Salah and Virgil. As good as Gini was, he wanted wages that were never going to work. Salah brings more to the table.

After all that Super League crap and the backlash there, they're going to get a deal done. Salah's connection with the supporters is nothing like what Suarez or Torres ever experienced. He wants to be here and it will get sorted. Maybe not as fast as you and others will like it to, but it'll get done.

The only City supporters I ever knew of prior to the takeover were Liam and Noel Gallagher.

A lot of plastics in England shifted from Chelsea to City the way people did in America from the 49ers to the Cowboys back in the 90s. City also won the title right around the time that these games were more accessible on ESPN and eventually NBC. It stands to reason a lot of Americans took a liking to City as they casually became exposed to the sport. It's cool.

A guy in our purchasing department at work said he became a City fan in 1996. The year they got relegated.

One of the dads on my daughter's basketball team sees me in a Liverpool shirt at practice one day and asked me, "Do you like soccer?" I said yes. He replies, "I like Man City." Sure pal. Of course you do. I didn't even ask a follow up question on that one. LOL.

Full disclosure: I haven't watched a non-Newcastle EPL game, in full, in like three years... always just here and there, flipping back and forth, unless NC was on... and the Newcastle games often just frustrated me lol. This news completely kick-started my overall soccer fan soul in a way I haven't felt since our boys failed to qualify for the WC.... super energized now. Crazy how fandom can be that way.

lol

Your timing for suffering would have been fantastic had you chosen Liverpool.

Winter of 2007 was when the two American bozos Hicks and Gillett purchased Liverpool and nearly ran them into the ground financially. They still hadn't won a league at that time either and we were treated to Rafa Benitez being run off only to be replaced with Roy Hodgson.

You'd have suffered just fine both on and off the pitch, I assure you.

I remember it was “cool” to see City rise and overtake United after their run of dominance. But now, I’ll route for United over any of the oil tycoons……… and any club owned by the Red Sox ownership group.

Will be interesting to see what Newcastle does since there are stricter spending rules now. Don’t be surprised to see their practice facility be sponsored by a middle eastern airline for 20x the market value.

Yeah. For some reason, Liverpool's resurgence gives me hope as a Notre Dame fan.

At the end of the day, we all kinda picked bandwagon teams. Not like I see a lot of Leyton Orient fans on the board.
