International Breaks are garbage. Very glad this one is over with.
CR7 tested positive for Covid, as did Liverpool's Naby Keita. Really would be better if they didn't have International Break at all right now, but so it goes.
McKennie tested positive for covid
As did CR7 which indicates there was likely an outbreak on Juventus too. Really hope Serie A rethinks their decision because I have a feeling a lot of teams are going to have outbreaks after this international break.

VVD tore his ACL. Crushing blow for him and Liverpool.
I guess I need to have the rules of the game explained to me again. I thought I knew them half way decent. Guess not.
Pickford is lucky he's English and lucky this didn't happen against Manchester United. I'll leave it at that.
Felt like a loss for one club and a win for another. Forever in the shadow because of that mentality, and rightfully so. Their best side in years and it still took a goal being called back via VAR for them to draw.
Wouldn't write off Liverpool just yet, though the fan base on Twitter seems to have abandoned all hope for the season, which makes zero sense to me, but whatever. I feel totally confused most of the time anyway because very little seems to make sense or matter anymore.
I have been disappointed after defeats, but I have never been angry after a draw like this one.
Yeah, it seems like anytime I think I know the rules to VAR, something happens and I don't. I don't even think they know the rules. Because Pickford's... attempt? (should've been a straight red) came after offsides, it's nullified? Does that mean if Pickford just came up and punched a player in the face after an offsides, nothing would have happened either? Makes no sense.
The PL seems like such a grind. I figured there was no way Liverpool was going to be as dominant this year. Almost impossible after what it took the last couple of years. Same thing happened to City last year after the back to back titles. Doesn't mean Liverpool won't repeat this year, just think no team is going to sniff 100 points.

Manchester United was awarded a PK after the final whistle blew.
Evidently if you are offsides, however, you're an open target and can be scissor kicked by a goalie as he snaps your leg in half.
Stuffy people, these Brits.

Yeah, its a grind, and count me as one of the ones who less than hopeful. Right now 1st choice center backs are Gomez and Matip. Gomez checks out too often for my liking and Matip is always injured and never fully healthy. That leave Fabihno and some u23 kids. The PL seems like such a grind. I think that the commentators ultimately said that the VAR guys just blew it --- looking at the offsides alone, thinking they solved an issue, and had a braincramp about looking at the bloody red Pickford attack.
Prior to losing VVD, I had total confidence in Liverpool this season to grunt their way through to another title. Excepting the crazy AV game, the passing and attacking midfield play has been pretty electric. Salah looks much better all around and Mane seems hyped. Firminho seems more energized too.
But TAA still can't defend at champ level and without VVD, I'm beginning to doubt things. TAA+Matip+Gomez across the back? Ouch.

Zero chance Matip makes it the whole season uninjured.
Exactly, there doesn't seem to be any set rules for VAR. I can argue United deserved the penalty because it was a clear handball in the box, just like I can argue Pickford almost ended Van Dijk's knee and should have been a card.
It just seems like the VAR argument is going on every week and there are always issues every week. Just be clear and consistent.
Watching a winning goal get taken away by VAR due to some body party being a minuscule offside, is insane.
Watching a winning goal get taken away by VAR due to some body party being a minuscule offside, is insane. I've never seen a sport willingly try to eliminate its most exciting plays (goals). VAR and offside does not work in its current form. Using it for goal line technology and calls such as hand ball works fine, IMO.
If Gomez isn't the best England International CB, tell me who is. Slabhead? Dier? I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "checks out too often". Again, it isn't ideal by any stretch, but they can go forth with Gomez and Matip with Fabinho providing cover in front of them.
That said, I want this team and this manager when it comes to adversity. I have seen clubs over the years on countless engagements piss down their legs at the first sight of trouble. The saying goes, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. This club has responded in recent years when up against the odds. They'll do it again.
These are not mental midgets we're dealing with and they certainly will not make excuses.
The problem to me with that VAR call was that there was no body part obviously offsides. With some of the BS VAR calls, we have seen an obvious arm or chin or armpit offside. What was there in this case? Was watching live, have watched replays, still can't tell ya.
I have NEVER seen a PK awarded to anyone after the final whistle blew. And by that rationale, Asto Villa should be in the Championship after what happened last year with Sheffield United not being awarded a PK because the referee's buzzer went off in the dressing room at halftime.
The rules don't seem to be the same for everyone, and Liverpool isn't exactly a small club, on top of the fact this was a derby and they are well known for being heated matches. Everton busted Origi's leg a few years ago.
Mane's collision with Ederson a few years back as a straight red card, but what the alligator armed twat did to Van Dijk happened right in front of Michael Oliver's face and he didn't call anything. In addition, the official who was doing VAR has been involved in some pretty remarkably bad decisions prior to this one on top of alligator arms having done something similar prior to this to Dele Alli.
VAR ref and keeper in question are repeat offenders. Keepers get too much protection as it is, but this is now a license for the rest of the league's keepers to do what they feel like whether it is offsides or not.
