Oh okay, so it's just the historical nature of the club?? I'm aware they are historically a bigger club than they are currently.... a few comments here seemed to allude to something deeper I guess.

They were big cheese many moons ago. Judging from the movie, they were up there with Liverpool and United once upon a time.

In the early 2000's, they basically mortgaged the club on Champions League money I think, then missed out and the club fell apart and had BIG debt.

Leeds were good in the 60s and 70s under Don Revie. They have not been up in the top division now for 14 years.

I like Derby and Nottingham because of their connection to Brian Clough. I'd like to see Middlesborough go up for derby with Newcastle. I don't like Sunderland.

Having the historical clubs up is always fun.

I've been waiting for Nott to climb back up ever since I started following Euro soccer like:

It's also their manager, Marcelo Bielsa. He's considered one of the most brilliant coaches in world soccer. I'm not 100% sure what that reputation is based on, but on the English soccer podcasts I listen to they speak of him like he is an absolute god.

Or for each of their pre-oil money fans,... lol

It’s interesting, lately I seem to run into way more City fans than United fans. I started rooting for City strictly because I didn’t want to be a bandwagon guy (pre oil money) and I’ve never liked teams that wear red (USC). The strange part is, a lot of the City fans I know are English guys. All three coaches of the women’s team at the local college are City guys. Several of the coaches at the club team my daughter plays for are as well. About the only one I know is my daughter’s coach at her high school. He was in the Man United Academy as a youth so he’s obviously a United guy (though he has good things to say about Pep). Guess everyone loves a winner, under the table money be damned.

Vast majority of their fans are complete frauds but we’ve discussed here before that there are a few here that are true blues. When I first taught my dean was a City fan and this was before they won anything, though he was cocky as hell lol,... but yeah

Throughout history, City have spent the vast majority of their time in the top level of English football. It's not a huge surprise that they do...in fact...have fans.

True. Not surprised I see a lot of American fans lately was just surprised by all the Brits.

I was thinking the other day about my first exposure to anything Man City related. Rodney Marsh came to a soccer camp I was at in the mid 80’s, he was coaching the Tampa Bay Rowdies at the time. I just remember he had an impressive head of long blonde hair. Think he’s on the radio or has a podcast but I’ve never listened.

There is a former Manchester United guy who lives about 15 miles from my place. Ended up marrying an American woman. He's from way back...60's I think.

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it before, but we had no organized soccer in the town I grew up in until we moved when I was 11. Kinda sad. Doubt I would have played but still would have been nice to have the option. Sure would have been better at that than football haha

No sport, no country, no fan base is possibly immune to having bandwagon jumpers right?

When I take my kids to their soccer games, I see a lot of kids wearing City gear. It used to be Barca/Messi, but suddenly there is a lot more lighter shade of blue.

One of the other dads told me once "I support Barcelona, Chelsea, Juventus, PSG and Bayern Munich."

All I could muster was, "That must be hard."

I think a majority of people are inclined to front run, especially younger kids, but even adults aren't immune to it.

I understand there are different leagues, but personally, I can't fathom rooting for more than one European club. Especially, like some of these guys do as mentioned above. It's all about the limited exposure Americans had prior to the last ~8 years.

I can remember first getting into the sport at the end of college (2010 or so), and liking Arsenal thanks to FIFA and seeing them on TV (ok, so kind of front running). Immediately I went online to find out who the players were, the manager, history, etc. etc. When I would encounter some fans, I'd ask them how long they've liked, say... Barca.

Other guy: "OH man, for YEARS! Messi is sooooo good."
Me: "Cool, who else plays for them?"
Guy: "Well Messi, and uh well, there's.... Messi."
Me: "So do you watch the games?"
Guy: " Um, well, see no. But Messi."

These guys don't really bother me so long as they own it... it's the ones that talk all kinds of shit to loyal fans when the above is the reality that grinds my gears.

I root for a team in either of my bloodline nations, Celtic and BVB... I have the Galaxy here and I latched on to Newcastle becasue the EPL got shoved down everyone's throat and they were one of the least "english" teams if that makes sense. I will say the Euro game in general is dying for me...

Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard to Borussia Dortmund. Gloves coming off in the Bundesliga.

Were their contracts expired or were transfer fees involved? If not, that Christian Pulisic $$$ about to get them a couple more big signings.

I was bummed on the CP move... so this was good to see. Dortmund was so close this year... just ran out of gas in the final weeks.

Hazard was for 23 mil so they may not go too much further... maybe one more defensive signing??

Wouldn't be surprised if they sold Sancho already. Transfermarkt already has his value at 72 million euros and I am sure they'll fetch over 100 million if they really want. Could be some more signings in their future.

They also got Nico Schulz who can play pretty much anywhere on the left.

Brandt staying in Germany doesn't surprise me. There are a lot of players that don't want to be tested outside of their home country. Germany and the Bundesliga especially.

That said, I like Dortmund ponying up and giving Bayern a run.

Reports are Sane could be on the move to Bayern from City. Doubt Bayern takes it laying down. They have to get younger too. A lot of big clubs in transition right now.

Bundesliga is a fantastic league. Seems to me it's like a high profile midwestern kid playing in-state at a B1G school instead of going to the SEC.

I always compare Bundesliga to Big XII ... no D, basically a basketball game, back and forth all game long. But apart from that, I agree

So Bayern Munich is Ohio State and Brandt chose Michigan?

Seven titles in a row.
